I've never used that technique myself, but I would definately have the same concerns.
Why not use a small whole punch? that's what I typically do and the scale is pretty solid. If you want to go smaller, I've seen people use the super tiny plasticard rods and cut little pieces off. I have also seen people use micro beads which are about the same size as what you have referenced. They can usually be found at your local hobby store (hobby lobby or michaels)

Sugar based hard food will eventually collect moisture, even if it takes years. The texture will eventually change.

You can do a quick google search, but I'm certain that many people use a certain kind of Brita water filter that has a bunch of micro bead things in it. Automatically Appended Next Post: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/602306.page#6971677
This post talks about it.

There are dozens of ways to give the impression of rivets, most of which I would recommend over using sliced sprinkles. Sliced rod is a favorite, but I've never been a fan of the look - rivet heads (at least in modern times) are generally pan- or dome-headed. Pan heads require a chamfer and dome heads require a radius.
Slice rod or use a fine hole punch on sheet to get tiny disks for the easiest of the inexpensive methods. Equally cheap but more work (and far better looking, IMO) is to use microbeads, either purchased from a craft store/online seller or harvested from a water filter, and drill shallow holes to countersink them, as splitting is unreliable.

I bought 1,000 half dome nail art "gems" for this, they are 1mm across, cost about $0.003 each, and superglue down without an issue. They are a little large, but whatever

That is what I did for my Avenger, a bedazaled model is kinda funny before you prime it. Works really well.

Fortunately, the gems I bought were black, but Buttery has a vajazzled rhino floating around somewhere if you want to pop your eyeballs out

I haven't got very far with it yet, truth be told. These were just a dry fit (got much smaller ones now)
Hopefully I'll get it done by Friday.

That glittery tank is extraordinarily lucky, and is fuelled purely by the embarrassment of being damaged by it.
It's never been destroyed by an enemy, and very very rarely misses.
...It did once blow itself up. At a guess that was karma.

The Forge World book makes a reference to using the spent charcoal out of Britta filters for the same rivet effect (and it's a free lifetime supply, as long as you know someone with britta filters!). I have never tried it myself, though
