There's hints about certain lotal Chapters being descended from traitor geneseed, but has there ever been any hints in the fluff that any other Chapters (traitor or loyal) may be descended from a lost Primarch?

I can't imagine what they did was worse than any of the traitors during the Horus Heresy, and if the Imperium is still prepared to use traitor geneseed (albiet rarely) after that, then is there not a possibility that they have also used lost Primarch geneseed at one point? Or do you think that strain was likely purposely obliterated along with their names?

The thing about the lost Primarchs is that we know absolutely nothing about them, so there's no way to tell. With the traitor primarchs, we know what they and their geneseed are like, so when a loyalist chapter with unknown geneseed shows those traits, we can start guessing. With the lost Primarchs, there's no way to tell.

If a chapter shows odd traits that don't match with any known Primarch, and have unknown geneseed, you have a possible candidate, but any number of other things could be the cause, such as homeworld, unusual recruitment methods (ex: Exorcists), or genetic tampering (the entire Cursed Founding).

A popular theory is that at least one of the legions was merged with the Ultramarines after their Primarch was killed. In one of the HH books, it mentions the Ultras having a lot more marines than any other legion, and makes it sound like a recent phenomenon. If that's the case, then at least one lost legion's genetic legacy lives on in the Ultras and their successors.

It's also possible the geneseed was destroyed. The biggest reason the traitor primarchs didn't get the same treatment as the lost primarchs was because their massive rebellion and turning the Emperor into a vegetable made it impossible. The lost primarchs could be erased from history, including their geneseed if the Emperor desired.. The traitor primarchs left too big a mark to erase.

Well for one, the Lost Legions is not a justification to make your own wacky super snowflake Chapter- GW never created the lost legions for such use, contrary to popular opinion. They aren't things meant to be built upon, but a mystery of the Emperor's a nature that is one of the few things still unanswered by the Horus Heresy.

Most likely though they were probably completely exterminated and had their gene-seed destroyed. I mean the Sons of Horus flipped the Imperium the bird and started the Horus Heresy- but their gene seed was still not destroyed. Their records were not destroyed. They're loathed by all those who know about them but they weren't erased like the Lost Legions.

So whatever the hell the two missing Legions did must have been pretty awful to warrant such a thorough purging of their past.

Actually, that it isn't true at all. It's been confirmed multiple times officially that the original reasons for the lost legions was so you could create your own should you wish, with spaces for one loyal and one chaotic.

It's since grown into a core story element, but originally it was simply an in-universe method to justify people making their own legions at home.

I remember reading somewhere that Deathwatch was founded by a Death Guard Captain, who essentially became the first Black Shield

Currently the fluff has the GK being built from loyalist recruited out the traitor legions, The regent's knight errants.

There was another Death Guard captain who was a black shield, unlike Garro though he was on Isstvan 3 when the virus bombs fell. Think his name was crysos Morturg? In FW HH Betrayal I think

Someone should tell the HH crew to get more creative. Everyone has the same name or their name is ridiculous to say (Im talking to you Word bearers)

They were initially meant to be used for home grown legions. That was 25 years ago.

Since then, they have been implied to have been destroyed, disassembled, and portions added to other chapters (the Ultramarines in particular, hence the legion's massive size).

So their geneseed has been diluted or spread to the point where it is indistinguishable from other seed.
