Hey all, I just wanted to ask your opinions on the matter of the Chaos Fire Raptor Gunship.

Do you all think it's too strong for it's point values, or do you think it's appropriately costed?

Every time I bring it out for a game someone has an opinion about it being too good and too under costed for it's value.

Am I being a jerk for playing with it in 1500+ Games? Or are my opponents just salty?

3HP and AV 12 all around right?

It's not underpriced (ranges in the 220ish range IIRC).

Compare to SW Stormwolf, which is just a little more for 2 TL MM, TL LC, TL Hellfrost cannon, seems fair to me.

I've never faced one, but looking at the stats it looks like a slightly longer range version of the Storm Raven, with roughly equivalent stats. I don't know that I'd say it's underpriced or OP unless you have nothing to deal with air (in which case anything that flies is OP and underpriced).

It's good, I don't know if it's *too* good. Depends on what you're bringing it against really. It's really powerful but not cheap. Against a footslogging marine list without flyer defense with little terrain, it's probably absurd, but against something like Necrons or Orks, probably significantly less impressive.

The one big thing it's got is 4 HP's instead of 3, but zero transport capacity.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

It suffers from the effect of being surrounded by ugly people to make you look a lot better. You are playing with a terrible and horrible codex, when a good units comes out it looks more powerful than it actually is, due to being played on a really weak codex

The fire raptor can also shoot at 4 different targets. Granted two of the targets are only receiving bolter fire, its' still pretty good.

Bolters are pretty weak, a few bolter shots are not very often game changing. Some of those targets are hardly being pummeled

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Actually, the quad heavy bolters can be replaced for free with autocanons in IoM armies. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

Not underpriced, but very good for how much it costs. Like a Sicaran

It's very good. No, it's not overpriced. IMO the other far less impressive units/upgrades CSM get from FW cost way too many points, so this one that is appropriate for its power looks like it 's out of whack.

I run the loyalist version and I get the same thing.

Honestly I DO feel its undercosted and a 'little too good'. The chaos version is almost strictly superior, however taking into account that most of what chaos has access to is subpar I feel its appropriate for them to get something 'a little too good' for once.

tldr its fine at 1.5k but if your mostly doing friendly's then ya I could see how people could hate on it.

The Fire Raptor is just about right, I would say. It's not carrying any special snowflake weapons. It's doesn't have a high armor value so is still relatively easy to shoot down with a modicum of AA fire. It's biggest advantage is the ability to shoot at multiple targets (something I think all vehicles, and not just super-heavies, should have). The only real "OP" aspect it has is that it can be tough to deal with in low points games, or games where the opponent doesn't have much AA (either in their list to begin with, or you've killed it before your flyers come in).

I sometimes field a list with a Storm Eagle and a Fire Raptor... Fire Raptor is fair cost for what it does, Storm Eagles overcosted, but that's off topic. When I use my Fire Raptor it can't really do enough to individual units by itself but it's useful for doing enough to several units at once; its a fire support aircraft and plays that role well by covering my whole scout army. I think there are some armies it would do better against then the ones I've played but that predisposition is true of any unit. It averages it's own point cost in the damage its done in the games I've played.
