I know theres often alot of talk of who is the tallest (which the black library writers seen keen on one upping themselves over), but where are the shorter marines and what are there names?

I am sure there have been plenty of half size space marines after ending up on the wrong side of a power klaw but they rarely live much longer after that encounter

They're called 'rejects.'

It's the guys you see on the tabletop.

The shorter marines are on your tabletop. They are about the size of an average human.

I don't know man. Those Marines who take an Earthshaker shell to the face probably beat your suggestion by a country mile.

It's hard to say which SM's were the shortest overall. There's pretty few references to there being a particularly short Legion. Alpha Legion marines are supposedly on the taller side, but it can be assumed that there's as much height variation in Space Marines as there are in adult human men. It's just, the lower end of the spectrum is still huge (probably 6'9") and the higher end of the spectrum is even huger (probably around 8'3").

I should of course mention I would like to exclude those injured in the Emperors gloryful duty, and those twisted to a small state by Chaos fickle powers.

Krieg! What a hole...

Shortest one created a lot of problems for the Imperium, as we all know, SM are notoriously short, using stilts to walk around in their power armor. Now... Maximum Shorticus had the dubious honor of being about a feet or so tall, unfortunately for him, there was no PA designed to deal with his size, this created tensions between his Chapter and the Mechanicum as the latter wouldn't come out with a proper PA, since its an insult to their dogma.

In the end, Maximus Shorticus and his Chapter were all wiped out by Scions, after they seeked the help of the Dark Mechanicum.

According to some artwork, the Mantis Warriors are midgets... (but thats mostly based off that picture of a MW tactical marine who doesn't quite come up to a Carcarodon terminator's waist, heh)

I'm a little confused (as with all things Alpha Legion) - I have read that they all appear to be approximately the same, same size, face, mannerisms etc so as to mask the true identity of their Primarchs. So then I read ChazSexington's signature block which contains this following quote (no idea where its from, but I love this passage anyhow)

Alpharius was the last of those present through long-range sending. He stood helmed, while all others were bareheaded, and his hololithic image was stable while each of the others suffered corruption from the vast ranges between their fleets. Alpharius, almost a head shorter than his brothers, stood scaled in crocodilian resplendence, his reptile-skin armour plating glinting in the false light of his manifestation. His salute was the sign of the aquila, the Emperor’s own symbol, made with both hands across his breastplate.

Lorgar snorted. How quaint.

If he is a head shorter, and his chapter is designed to all appear to be approximately the same as him...surely the Alpha Legion are the shortest?

His "brothers" in this statement refer to the other primarchs. Alpharius is roughly the same height as normal marines.

So that's what happened to the squats! They all shaved off their beards and took to marine power armor with stilts. It all makes sense now!

Yep!
He was short and had an inferiority complex because of it, causing him to keep going to the gym and bulking up.
They had to keep widening his armour to fit him in and once it got ridiculous he was forbidden to continue bulking up (he was about twice as wide as a normal marine).

Hell, he could carry two heavy weps easily whereas normal marines have to exert themselves to carry one.

Yep - Alpha Legion are tall, Alpharius is short, which is why he can blend in with the rest of the legion despite being a Primarch, who are all insanely massive.
