Nice contrast work there, very interesting color scheme.

Assembled, based and undercoated a Mindstealer Sphiranx. Its a lovely model and welcome break from the 40K Armiger I've been working on. I might start a WIP thread for this one...

Stormcast and Nighthaunt armies almost primed and will be giving them simple base coats and washes. Pretty much leadbelcher for the 'Casts and nighthaunt gloom for the haunts.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Haven't visited this thread for some time, but I have not been idle - it is just my miniatures tend to be about half-decent looking armies rather than the pieces of pure art that tend to pop up in this thread! However, over the past week(ish) I have managed to speedpaint about 2,700 points worth of Ossiarch Bonerepaers:

Trying to get the rest of the 'core' army (basically everything except Katakros) done by the end of next week. As usual, penned some notes on this along with a guide on how to tackle the army:

No pics as I haven't painted anything, but I'm currently assembling the Stormcast Eternals from the Dominion set and I've got to say these are probably some of the best models GW has ever produced. So much awesome detail!

Once I get everything I picked up in that lot from eBay assembled I'll have about 3500 points to get painted. And that's on top of all the 40k and LotR stuff I'm doing. My pile of shame has become more like a sad Mount Everest!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

Ah, thank you Mongoose Matt and Thadin, I needed a hit of plastic and paint.

Matt, the army looks great. I see you’ve got some brown bones in there that look ancient… can you include a closer picture of one of the cavalry? I love how it breaks up the appearance and reinforces the idea that these creations are built from multiple sources.

Thadin, these look great! Kudos for going a little brighter than the standard orc. Are you planning on painting the metal bolts on the pink sheilds and armoured bits? I think it would tie the model together a bit more.

…and is that Bernie Sanders on the standard?

I've been tossing around the idea of painting the metal bolts a different color, my main consideration being if I'd rather the models look a little better, to the detriment of my enjoyment painting them. Thus far, being lazy/happy is winning. Maybe once this army is done I'll go back and touch up some little details, but not right now.

Great to see the progress on Dominion on this page, as well as MongooseMatt's excellent OBRs.

@Thadin: I am currently painting up my Kruleboyz as well. Initially I was a bit intimidated by all of the detail but Contrast (or an equivalent) really helps in knocking them out quickly. Any plans on what colour you will use on the Hobgrots skin?

Matt's army looks awesome! OBR models are not my cup of tea but painted well they do look great.

Love the purple and green theme for those orcs, the colours work together really well.

Thanks all. I did one test run on a Hobgrot, pretty much just swapping the main and supporting colors from my orruks. Yellow skin as main color, red highlights, maybe find green somewhere. Very rough test run. I'm not building or painting any more of themm until I see the new Orruk book. Not a fan of the models or their rules.

“Does my ass make this Drakespawn look small?”

I took a break from working on Daughters of Khaine to make a couple more coldone knights. I absolutely love the Drakespawn models; I remember the Jes Goodwin article explaining the work he put into sketching and understanding lizard anatomy, and it shows.

But the knights were pretty static, especially compared to the models GW is putting out today. I’ve been diving into my huge dark elf and eldar bitzbox to build more dynamic riders to replace my old knights with something that fits the current style. But damn… the size difference is pretty severe. They look like they’re riding scaly Shetland ponies into battle.

Sigh. I wish I could inflate them about 20%.

I’ll use them as allies in my DoK army. Here’s the most recent scheme I’ve decided is finalized (lol, been saying that for years)

As it so happens, I just finished off another batch of the Deathriders:

After the all-over Skeleton Horde, bits get picked out in Wyldwood and Snakebite Leather - has the exact effect you describe.

Great colours on those DoK, Mastiff!

I've not really kept up with AoS for a while, having mostly left wargaming behind for DnD these days, but even then I couldn't ignore that GW knocked it out of the park with the hero sculots in Dominion. A quick eBay browse later and I have Yndtrasta, with a Killaboss en route as well. I'm a sucker for angelic/celestial types so Yndrasta got painted nice and quickly, and will orobably make her way to the DnD table as a Solar or Planetar or something because this sculpt is too cool to just sit on a shelf.

I wanted to keep the armour a little more muted than the classic Stormcast gold, but also keep it fairly shiny and unblemished rather than heavily weathered. The wings and tabard were where I let myself play with some stronger colours, I think they frame the model quite nicely. The base has had the swampy battlefield theme enhanced with a skeleton and an orc skull in amongst the reeds and swamp grass, kist to add some interest to the bare areas of it.

It was an aboslute blast to paint, you just can't knock the quality of GW;s plastics these days. Any thoughts welcome!

I decided to pick up Dominion after all, saw a head swap on the SCE and printed Sallet helms instead of the Blood Angels style death masks.

As usual I changed my paint scheme half way through (the above is the new scheme), so I just restarted on the 10 spear and shield guys.

Dry happy with this style of armor, I was not a fan of the older armors.

Got all of my current AoS Stormcast Eternals assembled:

Now I just need to get them primed to maybe get a bunch of them painted as a winter project. Thinking of doing a Hammers of Sigmar scheme, but with purple instead of blue. One of the hosts in the Battletome has that exact look (the Lions of Sigmar or something like that), so I've even got some fluff justification!
