If not Daemon summoning, what should a Khorne themed codex be based on?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

As I'm writing my codices, I thought about the Khorne Daemonkin codex. People generally seem satisfied with the codex although there's some minor irritations such as Khârn not being in it. Could another Khorne themed codex really be that much different or would they all converge towards the same? I mean, no matter if you want to summon Daemons, Khorne Daemons would summon if you led the right amount of blood be shed in the name of Khorne; even conflicts which don't include Chaos worshippers could lead to the summoning of Daemons.

I have several questions which I hope, you'll give me your thoughts about:

Could a World Eater warband be a thing or are they too divided to function as an army with a bigger purpose?

Given all Chaos Legions have their own rules, what do you think makes most sense: A Khorne themed codex where Chaos Marines (all with Mark/Dedication of Khorne) originate from several Legions and so have Legion specific rules or a Chaos Legion codex (one Legion per codex) where all Chaos Marines can take a Mark of Chaos (and so you could let all your Night Lords take a Mark of Khorne) including God specific rules for the whole army?

The same actually goes with the other Chaos Gods as well: is a Nurgle themed codex almost identical to a Death Guard codex or could they somehow differentiate?

To me the Chaos Space Marines needed to be characterised as a threat reaching back to the Imperium's past, a threat which had refused to lie down and become part of history. This is in part why the gods of Chaos are less pivotal in Codex Chaos; we felt that the motivations of Chaos Space Marines should remain their own, no matter how debased and vile. Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose.

KDK as more then only the Kharn issue, the fatc that you can't give Heralds Axe of Khorne or anykind of armor since it was a Lesser reward and they don't have rewards in KDK, the fact that the Deamon of Khorne rules are the least good of the bunch, on other things Furious Charge is nice, but on the Deamon Engines?, useless, if at least Deamon of Khorne wasn't juste Hatred(Slaanesh) but simply Hatred, would be better i think.

Also no Special character, i mean a KDK special character like in any other codex or KDK only unit, like Zerkers on Juggers or something?

There is Warbands made out of World Eaters, they're not the most civilized and friendly of the bunch, but it is not impossible, but they can only exist has a Warband if they have a Strong enough Leader, Look at Kharn after the heresy, before Skalathrax he was viewed has the Boss of the Legion by most and not Angron.

If a WE Lord is strong enough and have that Khornate Charisma/Charm about him, a bunch of World Eaters would definatly join.

Both makes sens, after all we've seen enough times in the fluff or even in other sources that a Warband can be composed of lots of things, it can be a heteroclit bunch that have all different origins but works/fight for the same goal or at least walk the same Path, some could have been hired and never left after it because they like it here, some could have been bested in combat and decided to join or just wait for an opportunity to strike back, some might have joined because of the Fame and renown of the Warband Lord, or any number of reasons, don't forget that ironicly enough CSM are more human then SM, because they do what they want, and if you can think for a moment for a legit reason why someone would like to join someone else band/club/group, it can applies to them.

Also there is Warbands that are completly comprised of members that originate from the same Legion and that work occasionaly with members from another Legion, or not, again Chaos is subtle in the ways why you would do things like you do.

The same actually goes with the other Chaos Gods as well: is a Nurgle themed codex almost identical to a Death Guard codex or could they somehow differentiate?

Same as above, more then one Warband who venerates the same God can join for a campaigne or a Crusade.
