I don't want to spend the cash for a codex and have it replaced the next month or so. So what is the best guess at the life span of the current codex?

It's about a year and a half old. *IF* GW's update schedule holds, it could be replaced in another 6 months the way Eldar, SM's, and Tau were redone very quickly, or like CSM's and Daemons, it could be a while yet, perhaps another couple of years.

We just have no clue unfortunately. That said, IG historically have not been a huge priority to update for GW, more of a "backburner" army, particularly relative to something like SM's and Eldar, so I'd wager more on close to a couple more years than six months.

Guard is one of (two or three?) remaining 6th ed codexes. Is say within 6 months there'll be a new one.
