Subject: Quality of GW softcover Codexes

Hi,
I just bought the Tau Empire Codex, but because of GW internal marketing decisions, the italian version is only sold with a softcover: I am fine with this, is cheap (33euros instead of 39) and I allways thought hardcover books are for collectors and not for players.
I stored the book in a plastic sleeve inside a bag just for going back home and now the book has allready a crack on a corner.
Just to be clear, this is a picture of the damaged corner of the Tau Empire Codex together with the Champion of Fenris Codex also damaged because has fallen from the library.
How is it possible? I have books and Codexes bought 20 years ago and they are still in almost perfect conditions, and these new looks so weak.
I was not lucky or this is a problem for all softcover publications?

What did you expect though? They're softcovers. Any softcover book could get damaged by random things. A flimsy plastic sleeve mostly just protect things against scratching.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

I prefer the soft covers. Yeah they tear a little in the corners but I have soft covers from 3rd ed that I have read and played with dozens of times that are in better condition than my hard covers from 6th that I have never used. I am rough on books and my backpack I carry at work is even harder on them. The soft covers hold up better for me.

I would like my new book doesn't break half an hour out of the shop just because i put it inside a bag (but with a plastic sleeve). As I said all codexes from 3rd edition to 6th edition were with a softcover and they are in better condition than these two.

Well, in the meanwhile I prefer the electronic versions.
In this way, I only need to bring my iPad with me.
Its everything on it.

33 euros for a softcover book printed in China that is almost a copy&paste from last edition is not cheap. It's a scam.
In my opinion, codeci are better in softcover than in hardback, but in order for me to buy a softcover codex, it needs to be priced in a reasonable way. 33€ is not reasonable.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.
GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get. |
