My issue was that skaven actually received the whole "You have lame stuff and therefore you're OP!" treatment as well as had an 8 page FAQ and the ballsy announcement that it was a 7th army book with 8th in mind. Hey at least we'll get a 9th edition army book....wait :(. Yeah that was life for skaven. Least we got stormfiends with ratling cannons that could dig underground. Even then that was a rare choice so you had choose between that, the abominations, doomwheels or warp lightning cannons. Meanwhile just about all our specials were crap. Interesting how people complained about that with stuff like nagash summoning 2,000 pts of an army on the field over the course of a game and this is stuff that could actually fight from a stupid OP lore. Oh and the second we give skaven a book let's give warriors of chaos a bloodthrister thing that can basically fly to a monster anywhere on the board and kill it without much trouble with a crap ton of heroic killing blow attacks (if I remember tomb kings had the most previously at like 3-4 I think). But hey let's give that think like 8-12 of them, ASF and various crap and make it fly because balance.

I find it funniest people often said our morale was ridiculous even though the only stuff with good morale had ranks and anything worth a **** in fighting was frenzied and small in numbers that it'd die if you didn't flank with it and by god if that died you were in trouble. The game's basically turned into spam rares and magic and stay out of combat. It's sad when every single unit you have sucks in varying degrees and the point of the game for you is more to keep them out of fighting as if there's no point in having them at all.

-----

Biggest slap to the face to fantasy players of course was advertising AoS as 9th edition and finally when it comes killing off fantasy and turning the game into flicking a dude's genitals and saying you're an Oscar meyer weiner for re-rolls to hit.

Use Breachers instead. Get close enough, and even Marines won't get saves!

I don't mind the person who plays to win. I don't mind the person who brings 8 empty cans of coke every week for two years and calls them drop pods. I don't mind the person who spams the most overpowered model in every list they play. I don't mind the person who doesn't ever paint their models so they can sell them. I don't mind the person who never showers. I don't even mind the person who tries to bend the rules or outright cheats. At least not as much as...

THE PERSON WHO ING STEALS THINGS!

I cannot stand this person. I can't ever go to the bathroom. I can't go out to my car to grab something I forgot. I cant go to the second floor of the store. I can't do any of this because I will have my things stolen.

This happened a couple years ago and I told the store owner as well as the staff. The store has a zero tolerance policy on thievery and I think a person was banned from the store (who knows if it was the person who stole from me). First thing I had stolen was a pair of metal SM sniper scouts. I assumed I dropped them or something. Then I lost shrike and started to get suspicious. Last thing was a land raider. Yes, a fething land raider was stolen as I went to the bathroom. I didn't even go number 2, I just went in, pissed, came back out and it was gone. Shrike and the LR were stolen when I wasn't in a game so there wasn't an opponent watching the table for me. The two metal scouts were lost when my opponent and I were deploying and we both went to look at the store copy of the codex for his army because he didn't bring his.

So I have become really paranoid and never leave army army or even my cases where I can't see them or if I have to I leave it behind the counter to be watched. It sucks too, because I havn't enjoyed playing as much since this has happened.

So, if you are one of these people who steal at your FLGS, up yours.

This +1. I hate those effing people. I lost at least 2-3 plasma gunner guardsmen that cost at least 12-15 USD at the time.

-----

Another bunch of people I can't stand are the people that break your crap. Watch your **** body parts when around other people's models. I have had a kid smash the top of his case right on top of my warp lightning cannon and break it and another guy that slammed his hand down on a tray of about 40 dead clanrats that did a backflip onto the floor. Would you imagine those 2 incidents happened about 2-3 weeks apart from each other? Seriously people I don't paint my models much but please, please, PLEASE be careful with things that aren't yours. If I carelessly wrecked your **** would you be happy! Respect my stuff and legit be sorry about it and help me out.

You don't have to buy something every time you go into a store. Just say no. If the store manager is pushy, you might consider looking elsewhere to play. Is there no other store?

As for your work situation, make sure you're looking elsewhere. An 8.25/hour manufacturing job is peanuts, man. What skills do you have? Degrees? Certifications?

In the case that someone stole Shrike and a LR, I would probably hold the store up and do a full search of everyone's stuff. Ain't no one stealing a LR, its like plastic gold.

You know, I must be too trusting in my FLGS.
I could not imagine anything being stolen unless it is an unsupervised child.

Yeah, my fully painted Land Raider would push the edge of what I could let go an not get physical with someone.
~$90 Canadian but about $1000 more due to the painting (in my mind, not actual worth!).

I think theft at the FLGS would be worse than playing a WAAC by a long shot.

Fortunatly our gaming hours been 18h to midnight, we don't have small kids, a few teenagers, but there was never something stolen, missing, yes can happen.

Like a guy forget his codex, and some other dude take it by accident because he thinks its his, happened to me, at one point in had 3 CSM codexes, and none of them was mine, since i had drawed the rune of Khorne inside of it to reconised it.

Sorted out and everyone got his codex back.

No wait we had a stealer at one time, a dude of us, who's hobby was to lick/steal rare/unique looking dices...

He was doing this just to piss off people, and he had a box with a huge pack of dices, wich i think only a 1/4 was really his, usually people would go to him " dude did you steal my dice again?", " yeah you can have it back", "stop doing that dude".

It was taken more like a joke then anything else really, now he's stopped doing that, nearly started a fight at a tournament because of that with another player, served him as a lesson i guess.

It's hard not to be angry frustrated. My whole life lately is about people being unsatisfied with me whether boss, family or hobby store. I can't go anywhere where I'm appreciated more pretty much. My life is also pretty abysmal and boring. I'd get into it more but it'd get us fairly off topic. If you wish to know more PM me. Let's just say I've been through a lot of crap including a close family member dying in '06 when I was 19 and lots of bad moments in my life.

Keep in mind this is a Games Workshop store. I truly have considered going to other gaming stores but I tend to be a person of habit. Not only that I'm not sure where I would go and if anywhere is in a better locations (esp. now that the GW is close to me since I moved).

I have gone through high school and some college. I have passed physics with a C or better for both courses (1 and 2) and I did Calculus 1 and passed that at least. I could never do better than calculus 1 though (calculus 2 was super hard though I probably should've stuck with it due to grading on a curve and it's insane how many people drop out of that class). I've been a fairly decent student and as far as difficulty in classes I seem to do better than most people in general (if I recall only about 1 in 20 people of similar age have done calculus from what I've seen though the numbers may vary).

My company is hiring, assembly employees start off at 90% of the base wage of $14.25ish an hour, go to 95% at 6 months, 100% at a year. Can't be forced to work Sundays, straight 8 hour shifts (don't punch out for lunches) CAN be forced to work up to two Saturdays in a row before you can decide not to work the third Saturday. Generally overtime is available to anyone who wants to work Saturdays, doubletime on Sundays (again usually available every week) 2% raise guaranteed a year and start with 2 weeks vacation, with a 1/2 day of vacation for each quarter of perfect attendance, 2 more days if you go the entire year. Yearly bonuses. This is the base wage scale, there are jobs that make quite a bit more but they aren't entry level, employees sign postings for them and are awarded positions by seniority.

We're in Grand Haven, MI if you are looking to relocate just a bit. Just a few hours west down I96, work 2 miles from Lake Michigan in a climate controlled factory. We build electronics for the Auto industry, so it's always 70 degrees in here

There's a great game store just 3 minutes from the factory, great guys, don't usually see tournaments for 40k anymore, just themed 40k days where folks can be guaranteed to get a game in. X-Wing is huge there as well. Give me a PM if you are thinking a little bit of relocation might lighten your spirits a bit. Flint, MI has it rough right now. We are struggling to find workers who can put parts in a box much less be able to do calculus, you'd be a sure thing.

Not going to lie, that sounds pretty dang tempting to a young 20 something like myself.

The things you see on Dakka I suppose. =P

Also I want to re-iterate the stealing thing, though I've accidently been on the wrong side of that. About 8 years ago when I was at GW in Colorado for a huge event (we had upwards of 20 people crammed into a tiny store at four tables pushed together for the game - it was big) I ended up picking up a well painted IG plasma gunner and putting him in my case. I didn't notice until I was out of the state once again, and still to do this day feel pretty bad about it.

As for your work situation, make sure you're looking elsewhere. An 8.25/hour manufacturing job is peanuts, man. What skills do you have? Degrees? Certifications?

I have gone through high school and some college. I have passed physics with a C or better for both courses (1 and 2) and I did Calculus 1 and passed that at least. I could never do better than calculus 1 though (calculus 2 was super hard though I probably should've stuck with it due to grading on a curve and it's insane how many people drop out of that class). I've been a fairly decent student and as far as difficulty in classes I seem to do better than most people in general (if I recall only about 1 in 20 people of similar age have done calculus from what I've seen though the numbers may vary).

As a professor, let me address this.
If you are a decent student or not is entirely dependent on your major. If you were a science major (say biology, since they don't need calculus 2 and its probably the most popular science), a C in physics 1 and 2 is pretty bad. How many people in the general population have taken calculus isn't important, because you aren't competing with those people. You really need a B or better in any freshman science course (Chem 1 and 2, Bio 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2) if you want to pursue a science or engineering degree. Math especially, we like to see B's or better. Difficultly comes into play, but outside of calculus, none of those courses are overly difficult. Classes like Physical Chemistry, Quantitative analysis, Microbiology, Genetics are considered difficult and a B here is more acceptable.

That being said, if you were a nursing student, getting a C in physics is considered fine, and taking calculus at all is impressive. You could get into a nursing program if you finished the requirements (which vary from state to state, but usually require 2 math courses, bio/chem/physics 1 and 2, Anatomy 1 and 2). Nursing starts off with decent pay in most states, and if you pursue a masters in it eventually, you can earn a lot of money as a ARNP or some other field. Nursing tends to be female heavy as well, so a male in the field can go far unless you are shooting for midwife.
You could also be a radiology tech, I believe in the south they start at 14/16 an hour in most states, and most states require just an AA with anatomy and physics preferred.

People who complain about things that are perfectly statistically acceptable bother me.

Like simple stuff. There's a guy who each psychic power he slots exactly the ML in dice to each roll and then calls psychic powers and then says psychics are useless and underpowered now.

Or the guy who takes 4 jinks and fails 2. Or 3 3+ saves and fails 1. Then they complain about it like "oh my dice are crap this game"....

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

While playing a game, the one thing that always, always sets me off is someone else that is not playing the game telling me or my opponent how we should be playing the game. It's one thing if I'm doing something wrong- in which case I welcome someone explaining the rule to me so that I'm not "cheating". But when random guy says "You should move that unit over there" or "You should be shooting at that, not that"... yeah, you need to just move along. This isn't your game. If you want to talk strategy and tactics, make a note, and I'll be glad to talk about it after the game. During the game? No way.

That's why if I'm watching a game, I won't say a thing, unless it's to compliment a paint job or something like that. Or if they are doing something really, really wrong like using WS chart to shoot with. If they ask my opinion, I'll give it. Otherwise, I'll just watch. I've learned a TON by just watching a game, not saying anything, and leaving my notions/ideas/opinions out of it.

The worst grind? The overweight neck beard that waddles up to the table and declares "Why are you doing that? That's stupid. You should be doing..." in his wheezing, condescending voice. I think some really, really dark thoughts when that happens. Most of the time, I'm able to restrain myself from saying anything. Most of the time.

People that come over to the table and say "Why are you using [unit x], it sucks!", especially when it is directed to both sides of the battle.

If both our armies suck then perhaps there might be some kind of balance there!

If we were to take the 'exclusively use the current winningist combo of units ever' then both sides would be using hastily assembled grey plastic mirrormatch armies, which honestly wouldn't be as much fun for me.

Man, I think my dice are doing pretty good when I can pass 1 out of 4, 3+ saves.

@Akiasura: I think I barely got a B in physics 1 in college but physics 2 is where I got the C. That said I do feel I need to brush up on it but doing that might require me to work less or not at all. Honestly at this point working a better wage isn't such a bad plan. I was planning to major with science but that said if I can do better for myself regardless I will be happy.

@dracpanzer: The offer is incredibly tempting but currently I'm only a part-time employee and I dunno how my half sister would feel about a move so soon (even though one of my roommate is an insane neo-Nazi/columbine shooting suspect and the other is a massive Christian nut named Matt Ward and no I'm not kidding about his name). It's not impressive and I realize that. The vacation stuff sounds typical. Would you believe I worked at my job for over 3 and a half years and get paid $8.25 per hour and never got a raise except during minimum wage increase?

My current job is in Sterling Heights, Michigan and I've moved from Pontiac to Rochester Hills. I have heard a bit about Flint but I'm directionally challenged. Having a game store like that is very nice. My local one is the only GW left in Michigan. I'm seriously like a few blocks away from it currently.

Yep that never gets old. But one thing that gets on my nerves is people who have to throw the dice when rolling.

One of my friends does that. He even managed to shatter a plate at my house one time. I rolled every die after that.

Also, rude win at all costs players. There are some who are actually fun and are very sportsman like . But then you have these who act like five years olds when they lose

Luckily I have a pretty great group that I play with, so I don't have much in the way of stories of bad players. Everyone's pretty casual, even the guys who lose every (or most) weeks still come up and play because it doesn't stop them from having a great time. Except...

There's one person who would essentially throw temper tantrums any time any minor thing didn't go his way in combat. He loses the roll to go first? " I might as well pack up now, you're just going to wipe me off the board." He shoots at my unit and I pass more saves than is statistically normal? "That shouldn't have happened, I'd be winning if you weren't using cheaty dice." I once saw him kick a wall in frustration because I killed two Crisis Suits on my first turn (it was solid concrete, though, so he would have had a hell of a time breaking anything but his foot). He also threw a Crisis Suit across the table (mine, that he was borrowing) after he took a risk and lost (I ran a big unit off the board because he had castled it right up against his deployment zone and I got into combat with a couple of Terminators).

When he finally got his own army, which was Necrons in 5th Edition, he'd bitch and moan about how Necrons were one of the worst armies, and the only reason he could ever win was because of reanimation protocols (this, despite running as many wraiths and stalkers as he could). Eventually he decided he couldn't take it anymore and got out of the hobby. Later on, I showed him the new Necron book, and he complained about how everything was nerfed, and there was literally no reason to not run the Decurian detachment so he couldn't even use his old army anymore because he didn't have enough units to fulfill the minimum requirements. Thankfully, he still has no desire to come back. Good riddance, I say.
