new to vanilla marines and I don't mean this to be to negative but curious, what makes centurion devastators so monetarily expensive? I guess they are about the size of a dreadnought and you get 3 so it kind of make sense. does the kit have a lot of plastic/options in it?
its almost 80 dollars an my flgs. I know i can get it a good bit cheaper online but I play their so I buy there. I want some regardless but are they a good value (for 40k that is)? Price seems so high........

They are a good relatively new unit. Therefore they are expensive.
Don't try to find logic greater than "Because they can" when it comes to GW prices.
On the other hand they are a great unit, gonna be a staple for most of your lists. Magnetize or give them Grav

Lots of details to the base models and, if memory serves, all available Assault and Devastator Centurion options.

The price is high because GW can get away with it.

I believe GW's current policy is instead of increasing prices on existing models, they compensate for it with the pricing of new kits. Since the Centurions are a newish kit, they're going to be more expensive than the older kits that GW have kept at their lower prices.

That's a unique case though. They know they have to gouge the new Ork player as it's only a matter of time before the scratch building Mek inside takes hold.

GW's prices aren't based at all on how much plastic is used, because said plastic is cheaper than dirt.
It's based on how much they think they can charge for them and still have people pay (like everything). Which in turn, is probably based on how powerful the units are, and how many of each kit a player would typically need to buy. Centurions are very expensive in points, so likely each player won't need to buy many, which increases the price. They're also fairly powerful, so players can rationalize paying more for them.
Doesn't at all explain Mek Gunz though.

This, it is Gw's way to print money they are pure gold for GW. (You really cant blame a company that is publicly traded for doing that)
The fun thing about it was that, almost players hated the models when they saw the rumours / planned leaks. But they made their rules so good that nobody seems to care any more.

it's also based in some way on how replicable they are by other companies and scratchbuilding and how much time goes into designing them and making molds

Doesn't at all explain Mek Gunz though. It does, mek guns are just an other way to scrape money out of ork players. It is a nice new model, it got the best rules in their new codex and it is best fielded in units of 5. Ork players could all field 15 of them in a single cad and it would not be bad or that much points either. So gw went all out and made them cost more in money then in points. Automatically Appended Next Post: GAdvance wrote:it's also based in some way on how replicable they are by other companies and scratchbuilding and how much time goes into designing them and making molds I don't believe for one moment that the extreme price variance per sprue of GW plastic of the new releases is at all proportional with the design costs. And I know for a fact that non of their prices are based at all on how easy it is for me to replicate or scratch build it. If this was the case then fragile high detail complex models like Dark eldar Wyches should be way more expensive then simple bulky space marine characters or ork battlewagons.
