Before I start, this is my first post on Dakka, so please don't kill me if I accidentally break a rule or two

Context paragraph - skip if you want! I've recently started playing 40k with a small group (after a VERY long break), and decided to start my own imperial fists army, specifically the 5th company with some 1st company veterans. In terms of captain models I have lysander (not 5th but I love fielding him!), a captain from the assault on black reach set, and I am planning to use the pedro kantor model for when I want to field a powerfist captain.

I have been looking for a model to use as my chapter master (Vorn), however I am struggling to find a model that looks like he is a higher rank than the black reach captain, or more intimidating than lysander (he's the chapter master, he has to look the best at SOMETHING). Now I don't have much experience with conversions/green stuff so I was hoping someone could direct me to a suitable model to start with (I was thinking maybe Captain stern from the grey knights but with a hammer?). Any input would be greatly appreciated, heck, into doesn't even have to be a 40k model if it looks cool enough.

P.S Anything but Calgar - one of my friends has fielded him almost every game so far, and I kinda want someone that screams IMPERIAL FISTS MOTHER , so the head smurf is out

Thanks in advance ^,^

*edited for spelling, also realised that i was using the name of the previous chapter master, vladimir pugh, by accident *

Have you looked into any of the Forge World stuff? Older marks of armor have an certain panache that marks a model out. Some of the Horus Hersey characters could also be a good place to start.
Maybe a little 'true scaling' may be in order, a mm or two of height is not a bad way to lend authority. That or a special base, raised or just 'fancier' then the base troopers.
Pose. Personally this is the biggest 'marker' too me, a commander should be in a command pose, not necessary an fighting/ running/shooting action, but one of 'bad arse directing. "I'm so bad, that if you can get though this army of mine, then maybe I will spare you a minute (or less) and kick you butt."

Tried your suggestion, took me seconds to find one that I liked - I'm gonna go with Armillus Dynat (alpha legion, but a file can fix that ), looks exactly how I imagined: Calm and composed appearance, ornate yet rough looking armour, huge hammer. Plus he's one of the cheaper characters so that helps

Thanks, great idea!

Have a look at the Masters of the Chapter set as well.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I had originally considered this, but they (in my opinion) fall into the trap of "not as badass as lysander" and "not looking like they outrank my captain". I had thought of using them as honour guard, but went with the sevrin loth's honour guard instead.

If I ever get to the point of owning 6 space marine companies, I would consider using them to represent captains (along with the two already planned/owned), but apart from that the models don't really seem to fit any other niche for me.

TLDR: Good suggestion, but I want my chapter master to be the centrepiece of the army, so the model must be MAGNIFICENT
