HOWEVER, I think it would be a great idea if GW included a link to the Youtube channel under their "Painting and Modeling" tab (aka WHERE THEY USED TO KEEP THIS STUFF) so that people who aren't already aware of it and maybe haven't checked the "What's New" tab would know they have a full channel dedicated to painting. I think they could do a lot better than a few thousand hits on the videos that way.
They definitely need to do more with them. I'd think they could work well slotted into the description sections for each item's listing on the webstore, as a sort of "look what you can do with this!"

In all seriousness, I'm right there with you. I didn't even know Warhammer TV existed until about 3 months ago. Not that it's existence has changed my life or anything, but they should at least endeavour to make sure people are aware they actually have an official YouTube presence.

i've just started playing around with the Martian Ironearth...
he isn't joking when he says to layer it on thick!!!
it is very delicate if you go too thin, but the cracked earth effect is quite nice when you get it right...
the lava effect is a great idea...
if you do go for red earth straight out of the pot, be sure to basecoat your base with a dark or red brown, because the black of a bare base looks horrible through the cracks, as i learned on my first attempt:(...

In the How to paint Skitarii Rangers video, Duncan uses a base coat of Khorne Red underneath the Martian Ironearth and Doombull Brown for the edge of the base.

Cor, I hadn't watched any of these yet but I've just watched a couple - the tone of the voice they're doing is really annoying! I'm sure these videos used to be way more mellow.

I think that's a result of the very brief nature of the tutorials, plus the fact that they're aimed at all skill levels.

You have to admit, there are a lot worse videos out there. The thing I like about GW's current videos is that they are direct and to the point. Also remember that these videos are written to new people coming into the hobby and not old pros which is why you hear all the "Be sure to let it dry." and "two thin coats..." stuff.

Yeah, if Duncan tried that approach he'd be pulled into Human Resources lickety-split and given a "vacation"

Maybe binge watching these videos isn't a good idea? I've never been annoyed with Duncan though at times the amount of paint he drops on the palette seems wasteful.

One thing I don't like about Duncan's videos is the way he coats the brushes is terrible for the life of them, getting paint up in to the ferrule like that.

That Imperial Fists tutorial was surprisingly simple. Be it that I kinda want to start a HH-era Imperial Fists army, this was very nice to see. I will have to work on recess shading to make sure I get a good handle on it.

I'll be doing a very similar technique for my Fists, with a couple of differences to make it faster and imo better looking, a must since I'll be painting close to 100 models: - Do the base coat with Army Painters Demonic Yellow spray can, which is supposedly a very similar color to Yriel Yellow. - Instead of Reikland Flesh shade, I'll be gloss varnishing the whole model, then washing with Burnt Umber oil paint. With the gloss coat the paint will flow quickly and easily into the recesses, and you can easily touch it up by wiping off the oil before it dries. - No edge highlighting, it just takes too long. Instead I'll do some sponging with Rhinox Hide for weathering, and some rust weathering powder on the legs to looks like red dust since I'll be doing Mars bases. Should be quick, simple and effective!

Sure, it gets repetitive but I doubt many people watch all the videos, and the things they point out like thinning the paint and having the correct amount of paint on a paintbrush or applying multiple layers -- those are the simplest techniques that are ignored by the most people, yielding lumpy masses. A lot of painters see a thin layer go on splotchy, and think, "I must use thicker paint", or just don't have the patience to layer paints to get it smooth.
Incidentally, there are some decent tricks in there for people who are more experienced, too. For instance, I've met a lot of painters with excellent models who still thin black with water or fancy stuff like Flo-Aid, retarder, or medium -- Duncan mentions in one of the Advent videos to thin it instead of Nuhln Oil, which keeps your black more consistently black, while thinning it down.

The hand gesturing is distracting but it's probably just nerves; we're used to Duncan who's been doing it for 2+ years - she's immediately gotta try and match that. Which is probably why she comes off as acting like Duncan and a little too over enthusiastic - she's probably been told to emulate him - I've seen her painting stream, much more chilled and stuff.
Her painting is good though, hope she starts to let her own personality come through and ignore probably being told to be like Duncan.
