What are Toy and Craft specialists?

Are these just generic terms to attract people off the streets? Or is my dream of owning a Space Marine action figure a possibility?

Interesting.

Maybe one day they'll move production back to Memphis. Since they turned it into a one-man store I've no interest in going there anymore. They used to offer tours of the plant not too long ago.

Reading job descriptions is always funny and these were no exception.

Basically, cold-calling craft and toy stores and trying to get them to sell GW products. lol.

I think it'd take a while to get through all the toy and craft stores in the US.

And if you did, you'd just start back over to the people who first said no and try again.

LOL indeed. Store buyers will take one look at the retail prices and start LOLing.

Success in this job relies on staying cheerful and confident in the face of rejection, and above all never slackening the pace.

A WHOLE lot of rejection...

Its cold calling on an epic scale and when you don't meet the over the top requirements of GW they let you go then hire someone else. I know of at least one guy that has had that job in the past and the expectations and turn over rate are pretty high. Lots of rejection.

What GW needs to do in the US is hire regional sales managers to work direct with the FLGS to help direct their sales, train their staff, and even help run local events to encourage sales. Kinda like they used to do. They could close all the one man stores if they supported the FLGS better and probably save a crap ton of cash.

I do what the voices in my wifes head say...

I used to be a bill collector and would rather do that than cold calls for GW. Naturally I made it a game when I was collecting as I had zero financial investment in it. Personally I think that GW needs to revamp many things to get themselves in a better position with their customer base. Good luck to any that apply.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!)

I can see how those calls would go.

I play at the store all the time. The manager is great and while the bigger game hall is not open, there are at least 3 tables to play on.

Do they still have the "mini-museum" of older GW products and such, or have they binned that too?

I'm guessing since they don't make models there anymore, they have no reason to offer tours either.

I don't know if this needs its own thread, but I see that GW is looking for (GASP!) game rules writers:

Sales, and telesales in particular, take a special type of person; not an easy gig. Do they still own a large warehouse/manufacturing building down in Memphis or did they sell/lease the property when they stopped production?

Still a warehouse. They have ceased production of any miniatures there.

Used to be a Battle Bunker too, but is now only a one-man store.
