Photos are much better. Great job. Love the presence you have portrayed for him with the depths of the reds and the ageing of the bronze sections. Can I just query, it may be my eyes, but is the head a little small on that sculpt?

Yeah, the Kabuki Primarchs all have really small heads for some reason! It's as if they're 25mm rather than 28mm, I stuck Vulkan and Morty next to Angron when I was back home at Christmas and they were rather wee in comparison. A standard SM head would definitely look massive on these models, but even in proportion to itself, the one here is a bit off. Still, I think it's a great sculpt, captures the character's presence perfectly.

Oh definitely! He's a great sculpt, but the head does stand out a bit. End of the day, he's a great addition to your collection regardless of his head size

This is NOT finished But I have been a busy bee this week! I'm not sure how much more I'll get done before the end of the month though -- real life beckons :( And I kind of want to build a new Sicaran tank; my old camo/silver one I keep using with blood angels is bugging me.

As to the theme of this month's contest -- Size Matters Not -- this is a set of modular buildings that can be broken down to use separately as little ruined buildings, or physically connected to each other to produce a single really large structure. I want the completed structure to be about 2'x2'.

The realm of battle board and some of the background props are not part of the contest (they were painted before) -- it's just there because I didn't take these photos specifically for the contest, and anyways, this lets you get a taste of what my gaming table will look like with the structure in-place Before I wrap up for the month, I'll take some pictures of whatever I get done that will be used for the contest.

If you want to see some of my notes about the various pieces, you can see them on the P&M showcase thread -- http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/679088.page .

PS - GW Drybrushes FTW, LOL. I can't believe how many drybrushes I washed out this week. It was never-ending!

Do you want those put in as placeholder final pics, just in case you don't have time to get any more done?

@Paradigm - That's okay, bud I'm pretty sure I'll get SOME more done. We still have 3 weeks! Don't want to make more work for you than necessary. But thank you!

It's no problem, I've stuck your first pic in the OP so if all else fails, there's at least something there to show (and that frankly, looks awesome! )

Probably better change my proof to this:

Only a max of five will be entered

No matter how many pics I take this looks nothing like the real thing, but never mind. Hopefully I can get time to take some pics during daylight and see if that helps.

Anyways my small amount of progression (havent decided if that colour tartan will remain or not)
(Note To Self - Do the bigger model option next time )

For photos, put a full piece of cardboard against a wall so it bends to a curve. Paper will work for small models. Get two light sources at least on the model, don't use a flash.

If you can, find a program that can white balance photos.

I like it dude, looking forward to seeing how you finish it

@Paradigm, nice work there, I particularly like the rather battered ancient looking tome and the cloak looks good too. I've always found getting the right depth and texture for white cloth to be really difficult.

@Talys, Holy crap! How'd you get all that done to that standard in such a short time?! Very clean looking buildings.

@Billy C, look at my entries for last month to see the difference lighting can make! That's a nice looking squig you've got there, you've done a really good job on the tartan particularly. I end up taking photos under the spotlight rack we have over the kitchen table to get enough light; try having a look round your house, friends houses, maybe even your FLGS for a better light source. I'd love to see some better photos for your entry.

@Jadenim - Terrain like Cities of Death is actually really easy to paint. Just airbrush (or spray paint) the darkest color, do washes with humongous brushes, drybrush it all (again, with big drybrushes) without paying a whole lot of attention.

By that time you've covered like, 85% of the surface area. The trick with the Imperial City terrain is that most of the other colors are metallics (silvers, golds, bronzes), and Warplock Bronze and Leadbelcher have almost perfect single-coat coverage. So those go on very easily, but you must be careful, as mistakes are very time-costly -- so cut the edges, then fill in the gaps, then wash, drybrush again, and done!

I do cheat in a couple of places. During assembly, I use a benchtop belt sander to grind all the edges to the right size, and I have a special jig that I made up that ensures that every piece comes out perpendicular and identically-sized, so that during assembly, they all fit square and line up without having to adjust.

During drybrushing of the metallics, there's a tendency of flecks of paint to get onto nonmetallic surfaces. For silvers on grey, you can't see that much, but golds are highly visible. So to fix it quickly, I use a air gun (attached to a big contractor's compressor) set at 80 PSI and just blast the model

Oh, and for the Sanctum Imperialis pieces that look like there's a lot of gold with many clean-cut edges -- almost all of it is airbrushed, drybrushed, and then assembled at the very end.

This is Bandai's 1/72 scale First Order TIE fighter as seen in The Force Awakens. Though it may not be obvious, the newest version of the venerable TIE fighter is actually a fair bit smaller than the original TIE.

Im not the best painter, but painting this little dude aint easy. Here is some wip shots, antbody got advise on doing face abd eyes on these old metal ones, as the cast is not the quality of todays minis its makes the paintwork look really bad. But nonetheless , he is getting painted.

I got a question about the limit. As I anounced, I am going to put in some "special Grots" I planed and built 4 of them and thought about adding either a Jetbike or - and this idea is my favorite idea - a scratchbuilt Grot Tank. Is it okay or should I only do the Grots?

4 Grots and a bike or tank would be fine, that's still 5 models after all.

I need to complete the cockpit tub and assemble the cockpit ball before attaching the wings. I also need to start on the base, which will probably be snow themed to mimic Starkiller Base.
