It looks like the Wizkids TMNT competitor will have multiple versions of each various characters from various eras/versions. In the link below, they've got the more traditional orginal Donatello and a separate IDW version as well.

And... on a more depressing note, the TMNT are now the Middle Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles as the property is over 30 years old. I've always known that subconsciously since I played with them as a kid but man does seeing that in print make me feel old. Pretty soon they'll have to cut back on the pizza because of their cholesterol, dude!

Well depends on if you go by human years. Galapagos turtles live well into 100 years old in the wild and one in captivity lived to be at least 170 years old. If they have their turtle genes then being 30 human years old could be just like being a 15 year old human, so no worries about your Pizza Hut stock just yet . Plus who knows if the ooze extended their lifespan. I'm sure if their are alien races out in deep space that eventually we will meet them and at least one culture will base itself off of the TMNT franchise like the space nazi from star trek original series. Let's just hope that the Vanilla Ice parts of the movie and music video get too degraded before they reach that civilization.

It appears that all the various turtle incarnations can get along! Current cartoon, 80's cartoon, and orginal comic versions coexisting peacefully kicking butt and eating pizza! I also like the nod to Transdimensional TMNT title nod... my favorite RPG book from the old Palladium line.

If they're more like the turtles that suffered in the pet trade after the 1980s/90s cartoon debuted, being 30 could be like being 60.

I've seen a recent comics debate about rebooting characters and universes (is DC due another crisis yet?) so that Superman's too young to have fought in WWII, the Punisher's a veteran of the Gulf War not the the Vietnam War, Frank Miller has a miniature mid-life crisis and writes The Dark Knight Returns, etc. etc. What I gather is that I might be the only one who doesn't really care. Same with the turtles - my era was the first cartoon, and they've had plenty of reboots and reimaginings since that one, but they're icons, not real people. It doesn't really matter if they age along with us, or not. We just have go with the floow, dewds.

I like the designs of the clix minis more, original and Nickelodeon, compared to the boardgame originals and IDW. Originals because, while the muscles are overinflated, they look more organic than the boardgame's 'lines scored in a loaf of bread' look. Also because the face on the clix turtles look more like the art on the IDW box! (Even if they're truer to the very first issue, way back then)
Newer turtles... the Nick turtles look younger - which is fine, they're teenagers - but not quite so young as the IDW turtles. Something about the round, almost bulbous heads makes them look like Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtles, in my eyes. I like the Nick style more, too. I can definitely see me picking up sets of the clix, over the boardgame.

The other turtle cartoon from a few years back did this too. They even included noir turtles.

Cool, thanks. I wasn't aware of that; I haven't watched the cartoon since the early nineties so missed pretty much everything in between.

Yeah, there was a whole other series. It was IMO closer to the original 80's stuff than the newer one... a little less campy and a little more sci-fi though.

Some added images from the recent Toy Fair and press releases with Bebop and Rocksteady for the clix version of the game. Unless folks object, I'll keep posting them here as I really don't think the news and rumors section needed two separate TMNT minis game threads.

I think we actually do need two separate threads, as this one is about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle boardgame KS.

If you're volunteering - thanks!

No worries. If folks want clix info on the game, it looks like BOLS is sort of covering it occasionally so I'll leave them out of this thread.

Latest KS update is that the US games have arrived at Long Beach port. Depending on customs, they should start shipping to backers shortly.

My box just arrived. Photos:

The miniatures are actually larger than I expected; I'm at work right now, when I get home I'll compare them to standard minis, but right now I'd say they are probably around 40mm scale (at least the larger ones like the Elites and the Shredder). Makes sense as far as a board-games goes, that you want the "more important" pieces to be bigger. Funnily enough the Turtles themselves are some of the smallest minis in the box - or at least they look small next to some of the larger models, I think they are probably a decent "adult human" size when compared to standard 30-35mm minis. I'll try to post some more useful photos this evening.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK, first off some good guys:

I think that the turtles would look al-right next to normal 35mm models (such as the Batman model), but the human figures are a bit too big. April is probably a full head taller than Batman (it would be more obvious if she was on a base of the same height), and Casey is even bigger.

And some bad guys:

The regular Foot ninja would work al-right at 30-35mm scales. The classic Shredder looks fine at 35mm - he might look a bit short next to Batman due to his pose and thin base, but the scale is comparable. The elite Foot ninja is insanely huge! He's probably around three feet taller than the regular dude, relatively speaking. Thanks to his pose he actually stands a touch taller than the Super Shredder, but they are both massive models. The thing is, if you assume that they are supposed to be huge (like if you assume that's the mutated Shredder from the end of the second TMNT live-action movie), then they work fine at 35mm.

Overall some of the humans (April, Casey, human Bebop and Rocksteady) look a bit too big when compared to some of the other models like the Turtles themselves, but other than that the models look pretty good. For board game pieces they are fine, and if you want to paint them up I think they will look good with a bit of care. There are some bent weapons; it might have been better if they had been cast a bit thicker or something, so you might need to work on those a bit if you want to give them a nice paint job. The bases seem to be just under 30mm in diameter, FWIW.

So I'm planning to paint up some of the main characters, and I'm contemplating bases. Right now I'm thinking of bricks for the good guys (to suggest sewers), and maybe wooden planks for the Foot clan to suggest a dojo. It helps that these are both textures that are in my comfort zone, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone can think of anything cooler? Also not sure what to do for Bebop and Rocksteady, any ideas?
