There is a lot of very smooth, exaggerated shading on a lot of those entries, it's definitely something that seems to be 'in' at the moment (that's one of the reasons I love looking through GD and other top level painting comps you can watch as the trends evolve, pick out the throwbacks to older styles, and take guesses at what might be a big part next time round). On the same note, diorama basing with variable height and one fluid model vs one rather static one seems to crop up a lot, and while the ones that are there are top notch, the gritty, weathered approach isn't as common as it was a few years ago.
All great stuff, though!

There's a lot of European style painting with bold colours and extreme blending going on, but at the GD winner level this stuff is done by hand and not aibrush.

Epic has had 3 distinct rulesets. Titan Legions/Space Marine (which grew out of Adeptus Titanicus), Epic 40K and Epic Armageddon.
Space Marine was sort of like 40k in that there was quite a lot of influence placed on individual models and it could be quite a complex game. Epic 40k was all about formations but the rules were clunky (it used essentially the BFG firepower table for shooting attacks for instance). Epic:A is a streamlined (but in a good way) formation based game with lots of unit synergies.
Epic 40K wasn't well liked by the community and is pretty much dead today although both of the other version have active communities. I personally prefer Epic:Armageddon, I had a game yesterday, so it looks like I will be losing out on this (maybe). I liked the Space Marine rules though so its not all bad.
It had 4 Editions. Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine 1st Edition, Space Marine 2nd Edition/Titan Legions, Epic 40,000 and Epic: Armageddon.
Personally, I'm hoping for 1st edition Titan damage and gameplay rules with a 4 Edition game engine. I never liked the Titan rules from Epic:A. I hope they don't use the 2nd edition rules which involved those hit location charts and the left/right and up/down dice!

AI wasn't anywhere near that bad. Maybe $20 each for the fighters, IIRC? Tanks at about 2/3 of that? It was actually a pretty affordable game, if GW had bothered to tell anyone that it existed.
Nah, it was dirt cheap. Rulebook was £40 and aircraft packs were, on average, £12 each. The ground defences were even better in that you got three for £6! You spent probably £72 for a large air fleet and ground defences + £40 for rules - you could be realistically be up and playing for approximately £112. Add another £72 for a second air fleet and you're golden.

Funnily enough, when I first saw the Godbreaker Clash rules I thought something like "hey this is just like Adeptus Titanicus!"
P.S. All these other guys have missed an edition: between Epic 40k and Epic: Armageddon there was another version of the AT rules that only appeared in Epic Firepower magazine. It never got compiled and published separately but it was pretty good.

Adeptus Titanicus was the probably my favourite game, I really liked how the rules worked, I was young and they seemed complicated but that was half the fun of it.
I hope that we will get as many Titans as we did in the original too.
My favourite rules of the lot were probably Space Marine, when they started adding troops and vehicles to Adeptus Titanicus, some of it seemed pretty detailed and I really liked that.
Like many other people I never really got on so much with the later versions.
The foam buidings as well, they never made any as good since in my opinion, although it was my first GW game so maybe im a tad bias.
I was also told that Xenos would probably make it in too eventually, if the main game really takes off, which I think it may well do at this rate, it always generates a lot of interest anyway.
The only real downside for me is no Squats !!

Not quite,
First Edition:
Adeptus Titanicus - 1988
Space Marine "Epic Battles in the Age of Heresy" - Infantry rules for Adeptus Titanicus - 1989 - also when the Horus Heresy was invented because GW could only afford to tool one sprue of plastic infantry, which was Space Marines, so needed a reason to have Space Marines fighting each other. Also the cover artist highlighted Dark Angels' black armor with a shade of green, forever establishing Dark Angels as wearing dark green armor.
Codex Titanicus - errata and new rules
Second Edition:
Epic Space Marine 2nd Edition - 1991 - rewritten and cleaned up revised version of the rules.
Titan Legions - 1994 - (edition 2.5 basically) slight modifications, rules tweaks
expansions: Armies of the Imperium, Renegades, Ork & Squat Warlords, and Hive Fleet; Space Marine Battles book 1993 (best of white dwarf collection)
Third Edition:
Epic 40,000 - 1997 - totally new rules set
Adeptus Titanicus II - 2000 - expanded Titan rules for Epic 40,000
Fourth Edition:
Epic Armageddon - 2003 - revised Epic 40k rules
Epic Swordwind expansion - new rules for Epic Armageddon

The Titan Legions box set came with an Imperator and two Mega-Gargants! Oh and a pile of Knights, too.
Gosh, I think it was Games Day 98, they were selling Imperator Titans for $5.00 apiece.

I haven't seen it mentioned but I was told by someone who was in attendance that according to Tony Cottrell, they presently have no plans to do an Imperator Titan for AT. It appears to be one reason they're looking at doing some Titans inbetween Warlord and Reaver.
I'm going to speculate that they want the Warlord to shine as the king Titan before introducing something bigger and that with the Warlord being 40k knight sized they want to sell enough of those before presenting something bigger and better; to make sure AT is successful enough to justify making something double the size of the Warlord for an otherwise niche game.
