Greetings traveler.
Welcome to the inn. Grab a seat, pour yourself some ale an enjoy the fire while we swap stories.

Okay so i decided to set myself a thread/blog here so i can show you guys what i'm working on with regular updates of progress.
And also so i can get advice and vent frustrations at things not working .

I'll probably update it a few times a week depending on what i'm working on and how much i get done.
Feel free to give advice as its always welcome

Phil

So a few weeks ago i picked up the hobby again and got myself setup with a Space Marine Commander.

I dont think i did too badly for someone who hasn't touched the hobby in over 10 years.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The week after i picked up the hobby i realised that i didn't have some of the paints and shades i needed to really branch out (even now i'm still missing some colours).
I went over to the store and picked up what i needed and got my eye on a pack of Space Marine Tactical Squad.

This is the "Commander" of this squad.

He came out a lot better than my first attempt thats for sure.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
After the commander units i thought i would experiment with some colour schemes.
The two results were as follows:

Mr. White & Mr. Yellow

I'm not 100% sure on both counts. Especially the yellow character.
Hes obviously not finished yet so i'll try and do that this weekend and see how he turns out.

I've got a final model based & trimmed ready for a Black, Red & Gold colour scheme so i'm hoping that comes out looking good.

Aside from that these are the ones i have left to do

I'm thinking its gonna take about 2 - 3 weeks to get the whole squad done.
One of my co-workers is painting another model which is why i havent shown it.

What do you guys think so far?

Okay so since i've been at this for nearly a month and i do have 5 unpainted models + 2 unfinished i kinda wanted to have a slightly larger project to sink my teeth into so i wouldnt burn out on painting 11 SM.
I needed to go to the store as i bought some paints last week and mistakenly got Skull White & Abaddon Black twice. So my i wanted to swap them for some colours i dont have.
(i'm thinking about creating a Light Grey & Orange colour scheme on something)

Anyways

I came back with this

i did wanna get a normal terminator but this one looked cooler.
Now. i am aware its a BloodRaver Terminator but... i'm probably not gonna follow that chapters colour scheme at all.
Nothing weird though i just wanna experiment a little

So after two hours i ended up with this

The build process was a little bit more complicated that i remember but i'm pleased with the results.
I'll probably give him a base coat tonight and then update you guys tomorrow

So this is where i got to last night

I know i said that i would experiement with a colour scheme but i kinda like how its turning out.
I'm not following a Blood Angels theme stroke for stroke but its coming out nice.

So i just got the bases done and a wash of Nuln Oul so today i'll be doing the edges and layers of to make some parts brighter.

what do you guys think so far

(On a side note, i realise that i called this guy a terminator yesterday i remembered as i was going to bed that he is in fact a dreadnought)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Okay so in my eyes i feel like the main body is now done.

I'm gonna move on to the arms today and probably get them to the base and shade stage before next weekend when i add details and such

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think i've had a pretty productive day.
I managed to get the Left hand arm of my Blood Angel Dreadnought to a point where i can now go and down the layers and highlights.

I also started the undercoats of the other tactical marines i had.
These are my metallic boys & the bases of the coloured ones.

I pretty much did two undercoats of the base colour and then a wash of the corresponding shade.

I'll more than likely get the arm of the dreadnought finished tonight and then start the other one next weekend.

Something i've been playing with for a few days is a new SM Chapter idea.
Now admittedly i'm not sure if a similar chapter exists with the colour scheme but i'm happy with the the progress so far

So its been a few days.
You can blame work, the weather and other stuff

Anyways
On Friday i started my Office Managers Space Marine.
She wanted a Black, Red & Gold scheme so i started and came up with this.

I do very much like how this came out and i'm aiming to get it done this week.

Now. On to what i'm posting for.
Yesterday i took an early start at the hobby store as normally i go on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm and its Magic day so the store is full of people playing the card game and i cant properly see what WH40K there is.
I could see properly yesterday as i went at 9am and i picked up a Tau Fire-warrior Squad.

It was a little intimidating to open the box. When i first got them 10 years ago i think it was around the time they first came out and there wasnt as much variety or extra units in the box.

The first things i built were the drones and rocket pod. Now. I'm aware i added an extra bit to the bottom of the drones so thats why they're extra tall i wasnt paying attention to the instructions but i think it looks pretty cool regardless.

The build process took some time but wasnt too difficult.

After about 2 hours i was at this stage.

Now with my Space Marines above i'm going to be experimenting with colour schemes and painting techniques. Namely because i've found that with SM complimentary colours seems to work well but with Tau it seems to be that opposite colours work better.
Also Tau have both Metal and "Leather" parts so its a mix between the hard painting style of my Space Marines and the softer painting style that you see on skin and cloth.

I wasn't too happy with the guy on the left. His colour scheme is just too soft, there's no definite edge.
The guy on the right is a bit better as the darker green cloth and the bright sand colours metal compliment each other.

So after tinkering with the colours a little i came up with this.
Hes not finished and i suspect it'll be a few weeks before the entirety of my Tau & Space Marines are done as i'll be playing with both of them.

What do you guys think so far

Good morning all.

I'd like to show off my Tau Drone.

I decided to follow the white & red scheme on the box (the name eludes me right now)

i would say another 30 or so minutes on this guy and he'll be finished.
Just need to do that edge highlights.

Thanks dude
I was looking for what the Sect of the Tau were called and in the Codex the drones all have these blue/green eyes.

It looks much better in my hands than it does on the screen XD i can see all the imperfections when its this size.

I really like how you've done the white by the way, did you use white primer for that?

Yeah white primer and then one coat of Ceramite White to neaten it up.
Then washed around the edges with Agrax
That by the way takes forever XD

the process isnt perfect as you can see but it really does make it look good

Morning all
First off sorry for being away for so long.
Being a games producer will do that to you from time to time.

Anyways i decided to start experimenting with a few new models. I saw there were these boxes of a handful of units for around 8 euros so i decided to get some.
They're the kind that you use to augment or see if you like the army.

I have discovered a slight quirk to modelling a painting Warhammer in Malta.
Modelling: The glue dries super fast
Painting: The paint dries super fast

Both sound amazing but on the painting side when i'm trying to undercoat with the spray the paint has partially dried in transit so when it does hit the model it gives it a slightly dusty look.
It took me a few days to think of a solution and what i came up with was doing the undercoat in the shower (not while its on) just in the cubicle.
Its cooler in my apartment than it is on my balcony and i can wash the walls of my bathroom easily enough.

Once i've painted some you'll see the ones that look dusty and the effect it had.

Afternoon guys.

So i've been experimenting with my new Air Paints on my brushes since i dont have an air brush yet but think the results are coming out nicely.

I like the kind of patchy effect the weaker pigments give it makes it look like a kind of Desert Camo.
I do need to do the gun and some edge highlights on the armour and maybe add some extra brighter patches to the leather.

Can definitely see a lot of improvement as these pics have progressed. Well done. I especially like the yellow and grey marine scheme
