Just remember that Start Collecting box Battalions don't have points and therefore can't be used in Matched Play.

Not to undervalue the amazingly good armor saves, but as mentioned above these "Start Collecting!" Battalion warscrolls do NOT have point values, and thus aren't usable in Matched Play. That said, the +1 to save roll applies only to a single unit chosen by the Lord-Castellant. The 3+ saves apply only to ONE unit of liberators, prosecutors, and retributors within 12" of him. If you kill him you solve the problem completely (easier said than done, but HE doesn't get the rerollable 2+ save).

Oh, but you know they will be putting points on them eventually.

Is there a unit requirement for that one, or just the Hero?

No, they won't. They've said they're only adding points to Battalions found in Battletomes and Grand Alliance books.

I actually don't expect point values for those box-exclusive warscrolls. I think those are just a gimmicky bonus they give so you can have fun with your new collection.
The scroll requires 1 Lord-Castellant, 1 unit of Liberators, 1 unit of Prosecutors, and 1 unit of Retributors.

They didn't do points for any of the Start Collecting Battalions that existed before TGH came out, I doubt they would retroactively add points for the new ones.

Yeah but their point was that this battalion warscroll isn't usable in matched play as it doesn't have points and there aren't plans to give them points as far as we know.

I can get to 2+ saves, rerolling 1s with my Dryads too if they're in Cover.

Also I didnt even really look at the papers in my Sylvaneth Start Collecting box. Didn't realize there were extra rules or anything in there.

The "guardians of alarielle" battalion does have matched play points and allows you to have the liberators getting 2+ rerollable saves nonsense the start collecting box gives (3" less range), in addition to giving the lord castellant a 2+ save. The warscroll is 120 points though; but probably worth it.

Unless I'm missing something, That's not fully rerollable and only on a single unit?
Basic save of 4+, rerolling ones if shields.
+1sv any STORMCAST unit within 9" of Grymm.
+1sv with Castellant lantern ability on single unit within 12".

Is it too bad of me to be desperate about new rumours and/or confirmation and details of Steamhead Duardin? Please, oh please Sad Panda!

Seconded. I have been holding off buying some Sylvaneth in case this is a real thing. The eternal problem with the current GW rumour policy is that I rarely buy anything in case I regret my purchase after seeing what's coming two months later. This has happened before more than once.

Since we at least two Chikout, you might find a little speculation of mine regarding the Steamhead Duardin interesting. Maybe Sad Panda will read it and discard it/confirm part of it. I posted it on TGA, but though it might be of interest here as well:

Assumptions for the speculation:

-They will be released soon

-It is a whole faction made up of duardin

-It centres around metal and steampunk

What do you think will be included in them?

Let's see first the current range of Duardin miniatures, since some may be integrated into them.

-Sure integration: Cogsmith (formerly: Grimlock), Ironwardens (metal + steampunk), Ironbreakers (same box after all!)

-Likely integration: Gyrocopter/Gyrobomber (steampunk); Warden King (formerly Belegar: very metal); Organ Gun and Cannon

-Unlikely but possible integration: Hammerers/Longbeards (as old dwarf as it gets, but they are rather new boxes!), quarellers/handgunners

So let`s say only the "sure integration" and "likely integration" categoris fall there. We then have a faction with two battleline units (under faction, not GA), two characters and two machines.

What is it missing?

-New super expensive center model. GRUGNI IN A GOLEM! Rumoured for a while now and though it may be just wishful thinking, seems plausible.

-New elite units. I would go with two: super though infantry (like even more elite Ironbreakers, just like Brutes are even more elite Black Orcs); and super steampunky shooters. Rumour (from Natfka and BOLS): there will be dwarfs with something that looks like Jetpacks and more modern looking guns.

There you have three new boxes. Not counting smaller characters, both Sylvaneth and Ironjaws had the same. Which makes a big, cool new faction if you just add two or three small box/clampack generic heroes.

On a serious note, does anyone else feel overwhelmed at the amount of content for AoS??

Like in 8th all you needed was the rule book and your army book. Now I need publications from all over..

I mostly ignored 8th and fell out of the GW loop during that time, but seeing all the special batallions or whatever they're called in the app makes me not want to use such rules. A ton of interesting ones for Nurgle (the names at least) but you'd have to buy several hundred currencies worth of books to get them and AoS background just doesn't interest me. Some of the battletomes that I skimmed had interesting ideas and bits, but the whole thing falls flat for me. I could buy them in the app that crashes every time I open it since the latest updated, of course. Sure thing, GW, sure thing.

Sticking with just warscrolls without any formations is fine with me ATM, it's not like the rules are great in the first place. I can't complain anymore, though, because the lightweight rules and super duper killy everything made my brother willing to start playing. Even bought a SC Sylvaneth of his own volition. He's part of the problem At least he still likes the old fluff better.

You only need the Generals Handbook and either the app or the battletome(s) for your force.

All you absolutely need to play are the free rules and the free Warscrolls. For Matched Play all you need is the General's Handbook and the appropriate Battletome or Grand Alliance book. The rules are hardly 'all over the place'.

You don't even need the Battletome if you don't care about the Battalions or Allegiance items. If you want to play Open, you just need the free rules and pdfs (or app). If you want to play Matched, you need to buy exactly one book (or buy the extension for the app). If you want more, that's up to you.

I'll admit to being overwhelmed by the amount of BL AoS fiction that's come out, although that may just be me and my work schedule holding me back.
