Just shorten the box (which you can actually change, btw) in terms of length and you've got the equivalent of the stormcast's IRL.

The FW Keeper of Secrets is exquisite.

It's stiff as a board and in an awkward pose that says "ooh me left knee's goin' again". The body doesn't lean or twist in relation to the step, the position or motion of the arms, or the weight of the sword. (Look up 'contrapposto'. Two Ps.) The legs are almost tubes and the arms are sticks... sticking out. I get that Slaanesh is supposed to be about flawless perfection, but that doesn't preclude the existence of any muscle to show us how the body is moving, stretching and tensing. Slaanesh is supposed to be about gracefulness and agility, too, but this thing looks as lithe as a frozen marionette. And 'a wizard/demon/magic did it' is no good.

The art that HMBC posted, and the sculpt based on that, look much better.

Yes but there is a difference between adding additions to the minis to make it pop more, and adding stuff to it for gaks and giggles. I mean why are there Tzeentch symbols attached to the wings? What purpose do they serve other then to extend the amount of time it takes to paint the damn thing?

I mean It's pretty, sure, and could probably use a slightly better colour scheme (maybe a little purple/pink to give it more of a Tzeentch feel). But, like, come on.

Shhh. It's like new Star Wars movies. Let the hyperventilation die down first.

I quite like it, at first glance. Great, sinuous neck, and overall it looks as animated as a certain FW model should be, at the very least. Could've sworn it was by Seb Perbett. I guess his is the new GW style for monsters? I won't complain too much about that.

They're instantly recognisable as Vrocks.

Binabik15 wrote:I still don't like the way GW does plastic feathers without a lot of texture

But how much feather texture do you see on a bird, from a few metres away? It's like wishing every hair was sculpted onto a figure's head. It's alright. It's only the passing of an old meme. Let it gooo, let it goooo...

Thargrim wrote:I kind of wish they looked more like the original concept idea for them from john blanche. Less muscled and ripped and more lithe and slim and weird, some with three arms etc. I'm not too keen on the overly muscled look, tzeentch always struck me as being more slender in contrast to the bulk of khorne and nurgle.

They're alright but it looks like another step (or quick sprint) down the He-Man route.

Davor wrote:
What is so hard to read dots? After all isn't that how we read dice in the first place?

To be honest I don't know why we read dice like that. I switched to numbered RPG d6s. Much easier to pick out than a tiny patch of dots in a sea of dots. I can't imagine these making that process any quicker, unless you just want to look for ones and sixes.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

It's not the weapons. It is the fact that they sculpted them in the old "pistol and sword" pose that bothers me that much. They could've done so much better... One for example could be kneeling as if examining footprints, swords could be in scabbards on their backs etc.

Nice gryph hounds. But I'd like a look at them without that strange extreme-highlight paint style. Whose are they?

Is that a stormcast without a helmet? Blimey, there is peoples under there.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

They gave the Stormcast Extremis Chamber their own battletome, so I can see them giving the Vanguard Chamber their own as well.

I'm sure we could see a Khorne update since it wouldn't be to hard to do a variant of disciples of khorne when Khorne starts counter attacking in strength.

Overall I like them. Looking forward to the lighter cavalry than the dracoth riders. Could be fun. Granted I'm far more into my DoT right now.

You speak as if that wasn't the entire point.

I suppose they have to bring out the Land Marines every so often to pad out the release schedule, the RoC/WHF nostalgia mine isn't infinite and they wouldn't want to do anything dangerous like have an original idea.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

There's only seven of them, maybe they come in squads of ten and maybe they have bits to ahve those weapons in scabbards. Remember, there was a crossbow that seemed to be holstered.

I really hope so as I really wouldn't want them in these poses unless there is no other way. The other SCE kits don't come with such options so I'm expecting that these won't aswell..

The only issue I have with this is its basically a Stormcast 2.0 book, when there are other factions that haven't gotten any books at all. Seems they are going back to the style of updating Space Marines constantly throughout the life of the game while ignoring others.

I think with the change in style of how they are doing books it makes sense. But yeah, I want my Duardin.

It makes sense but they should have had one update book to update everyone with special abilities and such like Sylvaneth and after got, and THEN do other books. This feels suspiciously like how Space Marines always get multiple updates over everyone else to make sure they are always special.

While I'd also like to see other factions and races more(come on shadow Aelfs), if GW are going to expand the Stormcast then this looks like a good way to do it. Really interested to see what the stormhost specific rules are like.

Truthfully, it seems less like "Stormcast 2.0" and more like 3rd edition 40k, where you got tiny little "update books" for SM. Just if those books also included the stuff you needed too.

Still, not a good thing for all those players who don't play sigmarines.

My pure guess is it's not just an update to get the battletome up to snuff, but an evolution of the SE in the new campaign.

My guess is we'll be seeing less of them in the fluff as the story starts to focus on the growing cities of the realms.

Super excited to see this develop after reading City of Secrets.

Ulrican cults were a little different they didn't have wolf hammers or they Had Tutogen ones ( so you know actually sounding like a German group?? which i guess the empire kinda was??), Al Ulric was a honorific...

ulricans are how the wolves should have been, IMO. Yes they have wolves, but they are not obsssed with them. Hopefully the Astral templars (basically the equivalent of the SW) will get themselves a nice batch of gryph-hounds and thus not be 100% doge obssessed.
