You seem to have some mistaken believe that police have an affirmative duty to help people. They do not, which is why they never get prosecuted for failing to do so. It's not their job.

So, normally I'm in favor of mocking stupid people on here...but didn't the article say PTSD, and this guy is in actual serious need of mental health, never mind losing his arm. If he wasn't in his right frame of mind, this is all the more tragic.
Seriously, if this was a common criminal, doing a breaking and entering or something and getting chased by cops...I'd be laughing right alongside you guys. But this is a person the article clearly says is mentally unhinged-there's nothing funny in this one.

I don't think you read what was written as he didn't say you stole cars or run from cops, just that something stupid might happen and since, as far as we know, you are human there is a pretty good chance that something at some point will happen. Acting holier-than-thou over the drowning death of young teens doesn't say very good things.

Alternatively, some would argue, thats what all criminals deserve, and it would cut down on the recidivism rate. I'm nicer than that though. I just want to know the gator's opinion on the matter.

No, there is a very big difference between dumb things happening at chance, and deliberately choosing to do stupid things that trouble and endanger others. Like, say, stealing cars and running from cops. It says more about them being stupid and terrible people and getting what they deserve. Feth 'em.
ETA: I'm outta here. I don't have any sympathy for people doing stuff that like that when it blows up in their face, and you aren't going to change that. I'm glad when a suicide bomber's vest detonates in his home. I'm glad when a terrorist accidentally shoots another one. I'm glad when drunk drivers end up dead. I'm glad when copper thieves electrocute themselves. Bad choices, natural consequences, completely deserved.

Going a mile over the speed limit makes one a criminal, and since we don't live in a 2000 AD satire, death to everyone doesn't seem well considered. Teens doing something stupid is par for the course, being odd with them dying horrible deaths because of it is not. No one said they shouldn't have been punished but the extinguishing of their lives at such a young age isn't really a punishment.

Stealing cars is a felony. Running from the police after having done so is another felony and puts the lives of innocents at risk. Don't be a felon. Don't run from the PoPo while committing a felony. Don't drive into a pond while committing multiple felonies. Gene pool...cleansed. EDIT: as I said, I'm not this mean, but who am I kidding, I really am.

Man-Eating Nile Crocodiles Are Now in Florida — Because Florida
Florida, home to giant, killer pythons, is now welcoming a new friend to the neighborhood: Nile crocodiles.
The invasive species native to eastern Africa have appeared in the Florida Everglades recently, many thousands of miles from it's homeland, where they're responsible for some 200 human deaths a year, CBS Miami reported.
“ Read more: The Bizarre Thing Baffling Amazon Users About This Toy Fighter Jet
Nobody has any idea how the creatures came to the Sunshine state, though some have speculated that it may been through the illegal exotic pets trade.
"They didn't swim from Africa," University of Florida herpetologist Kenneth Krysko told CBS Miami. "But we really don't know how they got into the wild."
Like killer Africanized honey bees of a different era, these African crocodiles are considerably more dangerous than their locally found American cousins. In addition to generally being a more cantankerous varietal, the crocs have been known to relish preying on cattle, large mammals and yes, given the chance, it would even eat a human. Between 2010 and 2014, 354 human fatalities were reported caused by the fearsome reptile, BuzzFeed reported.
Florida has long been a haven for invasive species. In addition to the python and Nile crocodile, the state also boats such cuddly creatures as the Asiatic clam, the walking catfish, the brown basilisk and many others. The list goes on and on.
Getting Aussie style in FL. Not closer but getting there....

I'm not surprised. Saltwater sharks have been found at least 100 miles inland as well.

Apparently the only way to stop a potentially armed criminal is... a good guy with a gator.
Having lived in Florida for a bit, you run into gators all over the place. They generally aren't interested in you but the smaller ones are more likely to try and take a bite out of you.
They really are amazing critters.

Mom (from Louisiana) to Dad about a gator in the road.
"just move it out of the way. Just pull its tail. They are real slow and can't bite you."
Dad (from Waco) complies.
Oh the hilarity that ensues!
Years later she would run over Dad with a golf cart...twice.
