Ignoring the actual gameplay of 40k, (as I'm sure we've all had great times conquering the table top battlefield) what are some

good real life memories you've had whether it be in your basement playing with your buddies or at your local game store.

In other words, what would you do WHILE you played?

I have some nice memories, my old house was close within walking distance to a gw, when I restarted the hobby I made made some really great friends. It's nice seeing them grow up. Taking girlfriends there and seeing them play and take enjoyment from a shared hobby. (A funny moment was seeing my ex, a mainland chinese be absolutely overcomed with joy by beating a taiwanese girl). Other moments include taking friends to go to different shops and seeing different communities and tornaments held by local FLGS while sipping on a beer in midsummer. I try to do lots of things other than play "the hobby" but I must admit the relaxing vibe of warhammer with friends and a shisha pipe or pint is one of the most relaxing things you can get sometimes. (As long as your oponent isn't playing elder! )

Tons:

When my friend's Monolith's Particle Whip destroyed his last warrior squad, causing his entire necron army to poof due to the old "Phase Out" rule.

When my friend's Avatar failed to hit my broodlord with the Wailing Doom 8 times in a row.

When my friend met my Trygon for the first time, popping behind his lines and absolutely tearing face as my hive tyrant slowly walked up the board.

In all those cases, my friend's (yes, it was all one guy) facial reactions were absolutely priceless.

Well, I've had some good banter while playing 40k.

We still joke about the worlds most special Nurgle Daemon Prince with Black Mace that was defeated by a single Striking Scorpion - not even an Exarch, just a single scrub. This game was in 2012, 4 years of poking fun.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Not 'best' but certainly one of my favorites is when I played against a friend who had Grey Knights, and he thought he could tank my 30 slugga boyz squad with his only unit left on the table.

My orks just walked over them, and I won the game with 60% of his army not even arriving from deepstrike lol.

its the little things that count.

Coincidentally...

I once had a single Grey Knight Grand Master tank a unit of 30 boyz + Warboss for several turns, including the dakkajet getting shot down and crash landing on SPECIFICALLY out of the whole melee (Orks hadn't gotten a full surround yet, and the blast marker scattered juuuust right!)

He eventually succumbed to the onslaught, but he held the line long enough for the rest of my squads to deep strike/get into position and claim a victory.

The time me and my friend got bored during a game so we started up a discussion about how the Tau sound. We settled on a Jamacan accent because it was hilarious. Shortly after that, his Riptide failed its armour and FNP against dangerous terrain and that spun into a long day of germaphobic, rasta-tau.

My buddy likes to place trayzinthe infinite in people's army when nobody's looking. It is always funny to find that little fella in a squad of ork boyz or blood claws just slinking along in the back.

Me against my buddy's Dark Eldar. I was still fairly new to the game, and rocking the DV set of Dark Angels, plus a few scraps here and there. We played the Relic mission, and it was a slaughter the whole game. Somehow I got a squad of 5 tactical marines on it and ran away on the last turn for the win.

Well, plenty:
A 20k Apocalypse-game(4th edition) in the house of a buddy. With a whole load of vodka, met and beer.

An Apocalypse-game in the outskirts of a wood in the 5th edition....for real! With beer and BBQ.

A very long game(20k, 36 hours) during EoT-campaign.

A 49-hours Apok-game in the 6th edition, in our former club(Underground-bar).

A Flyrant(a build from the IA-book) eating a lone Farseer while 2 Carnifexes and a horde of Hormagaunts are rampaging trough the rest of the Eldar in the 4th.

One of my best memories was made last weekend. My brother had Kharn locked in melee with one of my conscript blobs. I fired my manticore at totally different unit and the blast deviated 10 inches away, right onto the meelee, insta-killing Kharne (he failed both 2+ saves somehow) and my entire conscript blob. Danger close!

While I played we bashed Gdubs in the basement and the new flyer rules.

The short answer: 5th edition.

Long answer: 5th edition is when I had the most people to play with and there was a large diversity in not only army choices, but army builds as well (at least in my group and the surrounding area). I loved the variety I saw back then and I do miss it.

When it comes to a single moment from a single battle, I'd say it was an apocalypse battle in 5th edition. I played Oldcrons and was allied with Tyranids going up against a tau and imperial guard alliance who were both played by individuals that consistently walloped me. The imperial player had brought two baneblades and neither the nid player nor I had any super heavies or gargantuan creatures. First round was started off by the Imperial Tau alliance and they unleashed holy hell upon us with their longe range firepower with the baneblades spear heading their force. Our turn came and in an act of desperation, I sent forth a squad of heavy destroyers... who in a single volley of fire, cataclysmically(?) exploded one baneblade. It was glorious and the beginning of the complete massacre of the IG and Tau forces. It does help that that was also my first win in 5th edition

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I had a blast at the Platinum Devil organised by Ketara at Canterbury Uni.

I play at HATE club in East London. Listening to Toby Wrong play Blood Bowl whilst you play in a Badab Campaign is just hilarious. The atmosphere at the club is fantastic.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Not really 40K but Epic..
Me.. Chaos.. Vs best buddys Imperials..
I won first turn.
First action. Fire Cannons of Khorne.
BOOM?. Misfire.. Cannon explodes, setting of a chainreaction of explosions.
By the end I had lost roughly one third of my army.

Had my redemption though.
My lord of change ate all his Grey Knights in close combat.
It was glorious..

I may be an donkey-cave, but at least I'm an equal oppurtunity donkey-cave...
