Nah, not Khorne there's too much focus on him as is. Tzeentch or Slaanesh maybe?

The new GW "meta" is gravitating around titans, so no wonder if we see WraithVSImperial knights or some related monstrosity box, like the Renegade set...

Honestly I would like to see Guard and Lost and the Damned or random cultists box.

I play Eldar, Dark Eldar, Harlequins, Chaos Daemons (Slaanesh), Imperial Guard, and Space Marines (Salamanders). I'd LOVE to see a box set of any combination of those factions.

This.

Or really, I kind of don't like dual-army boxes; I like the start collecting boxes, I really just want to see more of those, and ways to quickly play battles between them, so new players can just pick an army they like, pick one of the start collecting boxes (if there's a choice) and play against someone else who has done the same.

I agree with this. It's better to have a mono-force since a lot of the hesitation on buying a Starter set is either justifying buying the contents of the box, or trying to find someone to split it with.

Orks Vs Chaos Space Marines, but the catch is that BOTH factions get a brand New Codex at the same time as this release.

Orks vs Guard. If your going to make a starter box you might as well introduce new players to a blood bath and encourage new players to buy 3+ boxes to fill their infantry ranks.

Journeyman Inquisitor with Visions of the Warp

I'd like to see an Inquisitor who requisitioned a small task force, stomping out a fledgling cult of Slaneeshi worshippers.

- Imperium characters: Ordo Maellus Inquisitor, SM Librarian, Tempestor Prime, Canoness
- Imperium Troops: 15x Tempestus Scions, 5x Repentia, 5x Seraphim

- Chaos characters: Sorcerer, Herald of Slaneesh, Warpsmith (with some cool custom firepower), Cultist Champ
- Chaos Troops: 3x Mutilators, 10x Daemonettes, 25x Cultists

I really like the Inquistion side of 40k, I find it's a lot more engaging than the PA/Bolter/Chainsword stuff.

An intentional "Allies of Convenience" set would be interesting. Min-maxing outside the fluff is one thing, but I think diverse armies are great. Why not Guard, a handful of Salamander Terminators, and a squad of Harlequins facing off against Slaneesh Daemons? You could even have some cool custom rules for multi-faction armies like this.

It is a starter of sorts but it seems to be more along the lines of "baby's first 40k" than a replacement for Dark Vengeance. It supposedly has very simplified rules.

SoB vs Necrons (Sanctuary 101 or its aftermath years later)

Inquisition vs Dark Apostle, Cultists + Spawn (Or Renegade Guard)
That would probably be better suited as a board game though.

That's all I can really think of that'd I'd want, unless GW does a IW vs IF 30K 'dual' army board game.

It won't be DA or Chaos in a starter since they've just had their turn and one has to be marines of some flavour because them's the rules.

We need an "evil" faction to fight the marines, so we have basically anyone but eldar or maybe tau (since otherwise the marines might not seem like the good guys) or chaos (since as mentioned, they've just had their turn).

I'd suggest KDK would be very similar to the AoS starter, and be yet more chaos, so somewhat unlikely. DE probably aren't sufficiently child friendly in either the lore or the painting skills required. Orks have already been in 2 starter boxes, and they're in the AoBR reboot. That could mean that they're the favoured starter or it could mean that they're already overdone. Nids were in the battle for macragge, but could make a reappearance, especially if they did BA vs nids in a baal replay and both codecies need some love )which is a tendancy for the new dexes to come out near the release of the starter set. Necrons would make for a good choice, being easily identified as "evil", easy to paint and haven't been in a starter set yet IIRC.

For the marines, GK would match up with KDK well, but again, might be too similar to AoS with the metallic sigmarine favoured ones fighting off khorne mortal and daemon followers. BA could go with Crons or Nids and not be out of place and could well see a new dex released for them around the same time. SW just got WZ:Fenris pt 1 and aren't far off getting pt 2, so you'd imagine that it won't be them. DA have just had their time in the sun, so probably not them and then there's C:SM. Probably won't be ravenguard, iron hands or templars since black is a bit bland for a starter set meant to get the attention of newbies. IF is possible, but nobody likes painting yellow. Ultras and crimson fists have been done, but a return isn't out of the question. Salamanders would fit the bill nicely, except for the fact that they're black and some people will undoubtedly take offense and turn it into a big deal. If they did do sallies, probably couldn't have them against orks due to too much green. That leaves WS, but painting white isn't for newbies.

As for me, if I was wishlisting, my picks would be the following, in decending order of preferance:

SoB vs Necrons - The Faithful vs the Soul-less
Salamanders vs DE - The one force for good against the darkest depravity
Guard vs Nids - Hoarde vs Hoarde in a classic battle that looks great the the tabletop

Given the current state of the tabletop, only the Sallies vs DE would be likely since the good guys are meant to win.

doubt we'd see a Knight in a starter kit box. that'd eaither be a "stupid good deal" or "too expensive"

IMHO the start collecting boxes are definatly the way forward. toss in a paperback rulebook into said boxes and they'd be PERFECT

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Ditto.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

As cool as this idea is, I think it needs to be turned up to 11.....

The guardsmen need to be a completely redone Steel Legion or Vostroyan (I would love it if they came out with a plastic box similar to Skitarii, where my head options mean I'm building redcoats, or gasmasked dudes from Armageddon, and would buy the gak out of it)

The fear that I would have with them doing Orks in a 40k starter set these days, is that they'd want the fluff to make them go more the route of the newly redesigned AoS Orcs. While it may be cool, it may also just be fething weird.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Otherwise, I would LOVE to see something with Sisters of battle in it...
