Armored Core was a Mech Shooter, not an RTS

also strategy games usually translate to tabletop easier.

You obviously didn't look at the KS page.

It's a RTS board game.

Sorta. It's a strategy board game in real time, rather than an RTS. An odd distinction, yeah, but an important one.

So the players go at the same time? that isn't new

I definatly will help cut play time down, and draw people that want quicker games if it works

So... it plays in real-time, or its just concurrent turns?

VERY few games have ever pulled off "real-time" play, and its usually a cluster****.

So you could say it's a... real-time... strategy game. I'm not sure the mechanism really matters when ascribing genre. Pen and paper D&D is an RPG in the same way that Neverwinter Nights is.

Game looks pretty cool, I've backed it. Not all that familiar with the source game beside playing a demo of an iteration on the original playstation but I like me some mechs and the mechanics sound really intriguing.

I've played one - a war-like card game from FFG where you tried to slap down cards faster than your opponent.

Can you name any others?

There's a co-op space game called... Space Alert iirc, that is just frantic people screaming at each-other for ten minutes. :-p Supposedly it can be very fun, but it is a co-op game. I've heard of a few others which were supposedly just messes though.

XCOM tbg has timed worker placement using an app to do the timings. So that's strategy with a real time element, but it's much more abstract than this looks to be.

I find it interesting that Bandai/Namco and From didn't give this license to Steamforged along with Dark Souls. Instead they went with a complete unknown.

The game could be good though. It has the potential to be very face paced and action heavy. I like that the customization aspect appears to be retained. We'll see how this goes.

Also, isn't that AC shown under the Engineer Pack an Armored Core 4 design? It doesn't look like an AC5 one.

It's always had a pretty bleak look. I think they really started stressing it with with the 360-era stuff though.

The concept seems cool, but I can't see 4 people playing against each other simultaneously not degenerating into a hot mess.

I love that they have now removed the licensing completely and made this into a generic mech game because it would cause delays...

I was extremely leary of real time games until playing the fantasy card/dice games Heroes which is 2-4 players and is utterly incredible in real time. This looks similarly well designed.

Yeah they lost 151 backers and $27K in funding so far after the announcement. Honestly they should cancel the campaign, start a new one under the new name. At this point I feel like, even if it is on the up and up, that it is too close to a bait and switch especially since not all KS backers keep up with updates or pay attention after they pledged.

Update #6 - Statement on Name Change

Greetings backers. This is Aaron Gabrielson, President and owner of Bad Crow Games. I am announcing two big changes to the Kickstarter project tonight.

First, we have decided to change the name of the game to “Mech Command RTS”. Here is why:

The license holders for the game franchise have final approval authority over everything that is produced. We have reason to be concerned that our planned stretch rewards and other game content will be delayed as it goes through a complex approval process. We also underestimated the degree of miscommunication caused by the language barrier as we work with the license holders in Japan.

This name change removes any uncertainty and allows us to deliver the entire game on schedule. Now is a good time to reiterate our anytime refund policy: We will be providing refunds for any reason, anytime, even after you receive your rewards.

Early Unlock of $500K Stretch Reward

Second, I take full responsibility for not discovering these issues in advance. In an effort to reward our loyal backers, we are unlocking a major stretch reward tomorrow. Stay tuned for an update with the details.

Kickstarter allows new and innovative ideas to come to life, ideas that would never see the light of day at a traditional game company.

I believe this game is what Kickstarter is all about.

Mech Command RTS is the first real-time combat boardgame ever produced. The gameplay is smooth and refined. The 3D city environment and models look fantastic.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. I do not take it lightly. Your pledge represents your time and hard earned money, and I am committed to not letting you down.

If you have more questions please check our FAQ page here.

With From Softwear letting so many of their IP's getting turned into board games, I can't wait for the Metal Wold Chaos table top game.

what about the mech designs

surely if they are armoured core mechs then they won't just be able to change the name, they're going to have to do some degree of redesign on them too

Best mech game I ever played was Zone of the Enders 2 and then MechWarriorOnline in closed beta/early open beta. The AC games are alright. Alas no money.

Yep. Makes me glad I didn't back it after all. I was so pumped when I heard it was Armored Core. These guys are absolutely stupid to drop the IP. KS backers basically expect (and tolerate) delays, provided they get what they pledged for. This is not what they pledged for, hence the huge amount of back-outs.

Bad move from these guys. Now it just becomes another game in the huge sea of board games pouring into the market.

Eh, just give me the President's mech in a wargaming scale, I'll be happy.

Shame that game never ended up in the appropriate place it should have been getting played.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
