Hello all. Im starting to get into Epic 40k and was wondering if someone could help me with this. I want to use the strip bases as ive always kinda liked them best. My question is: how do most compose their squads? I have a sprue of marines so far that has the 4 bikes, 5 terminators, librarian, techmarine, etc. Since the pieces now seem to almost be worth gold, how should one make the squads? Make a base with all hq, or stick librarian with assault marines, chaplain with terminators? I am no stranger to magnets, but could these figures even hold up to them? Also, when making the tactical groups, do most do a base with 4 marines and a sarge then 4 marines and a rocket? I just want to make best use of the sprue i have until im able to learn to cast some of my own. Any and all input is much appreciated.

Do you have an army list we could see? AFAIK you can stick a character onto any unit in a formation, as long as you have it in the formation of course.

Sadly i dont. Im waiting on a lot to come in with a bunch of figures. I just wanted to base and paint the ones i have. I just didnt want to 'waste' parts of the sprue i have. I thought about gluing the librarian with the terminators and chaplain with the assault. Didnt know if they would be used more often with a different squad or not. I know i definitely want to do an infantry heavy marine army without any titans and wanted to do 3000 points. I know that these models are getting harder to find and didnt want to mess them up with randomly putting thinks where i think they would look cool if they actually dont work well with that squad.

Are we talking Epic 40k or Epic Armageddon here? If Armageddon, I have glued characters on some of my stands and I have one specific stand with multiple special models as supreme commander. Also for Terminators the chaplain is best choice (Inspiring is better than +1FF unless you are planning to give support fire more often than assaults).

Sorry, I mean Armageddon. Thanks, see thats one right there i would've regretted. Lol. Do Apothecaries and Techmarines have any special effects? I cant seem to find them anywhere.

No, although one of the NetEpic lists may use them.

Epic:A is very forgiving when it comes to basing.

I use 5 models per base as standard. My tacticals are 4 marines and 1 sgt/heavy weapon, devastators are 2 heavy weapons and 3 tacticals and Ihave my bikes in 3s.

for characters I just use 1of the appropriate models alongside what ever unit he is joining.

before you start gluing things as well!

My Marines are equipped "properly"; in that my Tactical formations are made up of equal numbers of stand with 4 Marines and a sergeant and 4 Marines and a heavy weapon; a Tactical squad isa thus two stands.

As for characters, when I was building armies for Epic 40,000, I took a leaf from the Warmaster rules; base up individual characters on small bases, and put them in base contact with the stand they're actually in. That should work for Epic: Armageddon too.

The thing is, you need to know what character will be in what formation. Not all formations have access to all units -> You can't have termies with assaults, so it would be best to write up a list before gluing. Also, you should paint them separately from the bases, I personally find this easier.

Space marines with bolters are plentiful, ones with rocket launchers aren't. For this reason, all my tactical units are just 5 bolter guys. If the stand has a heavy weapon on it, it's a devastator squad.

But then I'm not really into the fluff, don't play 40K and have no interest in doing things the 'right way'. Also, I only play NetEpic.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

For havocs or devestators you can just glue a bit of thin plasticard tube to the end of the bolter to make it look like a heavy weapon!

A buddy and I are getting into NetEpic currently...we've been slowly gathering stuff from eBay, etc over the past few years.

I kinda like the strip bases too, you actually get to show off all the figures on the base...and they kinda rank up nice into formations... but round bases look sexy as well. Anyone who plays NetEpic see any pros or cons to either?

Are there any resources out there for either that are semi-affordable?

My strip bases are made out of cut down renedra bases, any thin and flat hard plastic should do though, and my round bases are 2 pence coins.
