I've got a few games with my 1500pts battle company under my belt now and am loving it (has taken on several competitive builds and won )

im thinking of upping it to 1750 and heading to a Throne of Skulls tournament at some point and cant quite decide what to add to make the extra 250pts...

this is the 1500:

[demi company 1]

Company Master - combi-plasma

Dreadnought - multi-melta, drop pod

Tactical squad - grav cannon, combi grav, drop pod

Tactical Squad - plasma cannon, combi plasma, razorback with lascannons

Tactical Squad - Multi-melta, combi melta, razorback

Assault Squad - flamer, razorback

Devastator Squad - 4 missile launchers, razorback with lascannons

[demi company 2]

Chaplain

Dreadnought - multimelta, drop pod

Tactical Squad - plasma gun, combi plasma, razorback

Tactical Squad - melta gun, combi melta, razorback

Tactical Squad - flamer, combi flamer, razorback

Assault Squad - flamer, razorback

Devastator Squad - 4 missile launchers, razorback with lascannons

[auxillary]

Scout Squad - 5 snipers, camo cloaks

1500pts spot on (all squads are 5-man)

obviously fails miserably in kill points games, but having so many objective secured units that overwatch as full BS has proven VERY effective. i have tried a few different options to make up the 250pts, i'll list them below. just wondering which one/s people like or if there are any others people can suggest (though obviously keeping to the msu theme)

option 1 (currently my favorite) - each demi company gaining a veteran squad with plasma gun in a razorback with lascannons

option 2 - allied flier wing (i have no real anti-air). 2 base stormhawks is 250pts and would hopefully scare off some fliers, stormtalon wing with skyhammmers also possible (either way, using iron hands for iwnd)

option 3 - 2 librarians, both level 2, with combi weapon and terminator armour. not a big fan of this option but they were quite useful against a white scars grav army recently (that snap fire power on interromancy is incredible for 1 warp charge!)

option 4 - ravenwing attack squadron, 3 attack bikes with multi meltas, land speeder with multi melta and typhoon missile launcher

option 5 - 2 ravenwing squadrons, first with 1 attack bike with multimelta and land speeder multi melta +typhoon, other has 1 attack bike with multi-melta and land speeder with multi melta and heavy flamer

any thoughts + ideas :-)

Only real advice for you is swap the devs razorback for a rhino as they cannot fire out of the razorback. I run a double demi company and stack plasma in all the squads. I run 2 pods of vets with combi meltas. 2 squads of devs with grav cannons in rhinos. It gives me almost 29 kill points but gives over whelming firepower. The games I have lost using itc rules i have lost by a single point. The ones I win it is almost a blow out. The lions blade works best as a board control army. Rush the middle board and let them break upon the walls of your fire power.

You can't fire all four missiles out of the Rhino either, so I'd think the point of the Razorback is more as a gun truck than as a transport.

What about lascannons on the devastators? That'll give you some more options for dealing with big MCs or AV14, at any rate.

I say keep the Razorbacks cause that's just 2 free moving gun platforms. Especially cause I think the Devs are probably just positioned in a safe area in the rear. What about adding a group of terminators? The deep strike option could be a fun little scare tactic for diverting your opponent away from another objective plus the deathwing terminators have fearless and stubborn so they are hard to push back

The whole army is stubborn to begin with. Deathwing get fearless.

I tend to deploy the devi squads somewhere out of harms way and use their transport as just a gunboat as someone mentioned :-)

I would love to have more grav cannons but i like the variety of weapons i have now

I think the only thing this list lacks is a decent chance against av14 and taking on fliers.... the stormhawks kind of help but not that great a range on their guns and effectively bs3 (but -2 to opponents reserves from the flier wing is useful). Im liking the veterans atm because the bring a tiny bit of ap2 and both with lascannon razorbacks should give a semi-reasonable chance to worry monsters and high av (to say nothing of the melta/grav i already have)

I run 2 pods of combimelta vets in pods and they have yet to make their points back. I i have played a few knights with this list and drop on each side usually popping a knight or other monstrous creature turn 1. use a 3rd pod with an assault squad for late game objective grab

Good point....

2 vet squads in drop pods would give me enough points for them to have 7 combi weapons between them....

Unless you can recommend dropping something but I do like the original list as it is...

Would love to but trying to keep to the lions blade detachment.... means a minimum of 500+pts to field terminators, before any upgrades and/or weapons :-(

A Protoss colony world

For 1750, maybe drop the Scouts and make a Ravenwing Attack Squadron your auxiliary. Take the full 6 bikes with 2 grav guns, attack bike with multimelta, and a Typhoon land speeder. Combat squad the bikes so 2 units of 3 bikes and the attack bike. I personally love my Ravenwing, and their rerollable jink save makes them plenty durable. Perhaps instead of taking the full size squadron, take just a Typhoon speeder and 3 bikes with 2 grav guns, and then take a Libby on bike as a command choice.

Just my 2 cents!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

This is good advice.

Adding Ravenwing does mean making the power armor dudes leaner. just one or two upgrades per unit is fine. Look at how lean Brandon Grant's BAO-winning list is.

I have a housemate that plays at 1850 tournaments and have used the ravenwing attack squadron on top of this list against him... worked pretty well :-)

Dunno how popular fliers are nowadays... my local store/clubs have basically none but was a little worried...

What would uou suggest dropping/changing to fit the ravenwing in? I have the above list built and have started painting so am reluctant to get new stuff

Never mind my last question.... dropping the scouts fits the ravenwing perfectly :-)

The ATC tournament allowed the new Death from the Skies supplement so there were a lot of flyer-spam armies but most tournaments are not allowing that supplement so flyers will remain rare.

You can drop the dreads and some combi-weapons, but it's harder to fit another detachment in at 1750 than at 1850 so don't worry about it too much.

Thanks. Most of the tournaments i go to are gw-run affairs so anything current is allowed (from the event pack for the last throne of skulls, forgeworld was allowed, but not 30k)

Oh if the format is totally unrestricted then a well-piloted Invisible deathstar is gonna win every event. At least try to squeeze in a Culexus so you can capitalize if he makes a mistake. Also play the mission, ignore it while invisible, spread out and kill the rest of his support units, and the other usual deathstar advice. If he fails one turn to get Invisibility and the reroll saves power, then focus everything on it that turn (unless it's the fenrisian wolf star with Azrael in which case you never could have won.) And make sure he knows each unit can cast each power only once, and each psyker only as many powers as his mastery level.
