"Hey mind if I play World Eaters"
"Not at all"
"I've painted them as Flesh Tearers is that OK"
"Sure, there your models"
"Thanks, some people think I'm cheating by using World Eaters rules"
"Nah, it's just the same as someone painting Emperor's Children green."

The people that keep posting in this thread are trying to rationalize and justify why they think this is an acceptable or not acceptable idea. By posting again and again the same opinion they hope to validate their rationalization through sheer posting. I can accept the idea that some players will play this game however they want, but when you post on a public forum asking for opinions, that's what you are going to get, people that agree and people that disagree with you. State your opinion, maybe one or two responses to support it, then move on. Trying to shout out or wash out other peoples opinion by restating your own in response to every contrary opinion to your own is not meaningful or adds to the discussion in any way. Making veiled insults and passive/aggressive posts doesn't advance or add any credibility to your opinion at all. In fact, it does exactly the opposite.

Really? Because I see a lot of points that aren't being answered by the rivet counter side. But I guess perception is a tricky thing.
Trying to shout out or wash out other peoples opinion by restating your own in response to every contrary opinion to your own is not meaningful or adds to the discussion in any way
And I think reframing a discussion as an attack on "sacrosanct" opinions is a pretty disingenuous tactic, but I know no one here does that kind of stuff.

I think the bottom line (to summarize, rather than endless restate my opinion *eyeroll*) is that there are chapters in 30k who vary from their parent legion, and games are things people play for enjoyment, sometimes people want to play towards or customize a specific force based on literature or even their ideas. Endless naysaying based on personal dislike without factual basis isn't really helpful when the question at the start was not 'should' but 'how'.

Or perhaps just debating other arguments. I can accept the idea that some players will play this game however they want, but when you post on a public forum asking for opinions, that's what you are going to get, people that agree and people that disagree with you. We're responding to other ideas and showing how they are flawed. Is critique of other ideas not allowed?
I'm aware that putting the same point forward is counter-intuitive. But disproving a point is a perfectly valid train of thought. So far, I don't really think anything is topping the "It's a Blood Angel, so if you want to play fluffy, play Blood Angels" argument.
No-one's saying you can't paint a model in a certain way. But when OP is expressly trying to find the fluffiest option for a group of Blood Angels, the answer is in the question.

Your example is more like
"Hey, mind if I bring my Flesh Tearers?"
"Sure!"
"But I'll be using World Eater rules."
"Why?"
"I figured that the best way to represent Blood Angels is not with Blood Angel rules, but with another Legion."
"... Yeah."
There's literally nothing wrong with this.
There's no right or wrong at all...only the norms of your local community. Some communities would support it, others would not, and either feeling is valid.
The only certainty here is that YOU don't get to determine how your community feels about it. So it's important to sniff that out before one attempts a 'counts-as' project.
