Varag is awful, especially compared to the phenomenal plastics.
Boxy, vague detail. Very easy to convert him from extra plastics so no big loss, just a shame after the phenomenal Zug sculpt.

I know what is wrong with Varag; he looks exactly like an alternative generic orc blitzer would. He doesn't have that "Star Player" feeling.
That's why I called him 'low-key'. That's nothing grand about him.

 RiTides wrote:
... he's nicely understated and would make a great alternate blitzer as Sarouan posted.
He didn't post that as a positive. Understated is not what you want from a Star Player mini.

I agree of course, but if I was an ork BB player, I'd totally be picking it up and using it as a blitzer... that squig ball is just too great not to use

Hmm... Varag is very mundane and low-key for an Orc. That's surprising, especially considering what his first and second incarnations were like, and especially after the great Zug mini we just got.

What a shame.

Agreed. He's not a bad sculpt, all in all, and had he been released with the last incarnation of Blood Bowl I would have snapped him up.

Compared to the new plastic Orcs, he's unimpressive. The detail is crisper, and the sculpts have more action and dynamism, on the plastic models.

TBH, I'm kind of glad because Varag's Star Player stats never really excited me as a player. Not that they were bad, but I wasn't particularly interested in fielding a tactically gifted orc--I like the ones that just pound in your face. If he had awesome rules, I would have been really tempted to buy one, despite a determinedly average sculpt.

Oi, that's my line.

Joyboozer wrote:Am I the only one that thinks Varag looks like a lumpy piece of gak?
Zug is an amazing sculpt, Varag looks like a bad third party release.

IMO it's because he's so completely cluttered. There may be a distinctive pose and sense of movement under there (unlikely, but just for argument's sake) but in both of the viewpoints posted here it's broken up and obscured by a zillion bits of jagged, pointy armour; like some kind of disruption camo. I won't say the style of those previous Varag sculpts are much better, but at least the orc comes first.

The FW Facebook page said only 4 more sleeps until it was released.

So it should be this Friday.

They haven't started Angelus properly, and Fires of Cyraxus was pretty much done before they took everyone off it to finish Inferno (I believe).

Then Badab War 2nd edition.

I would kill for Badab War 2nd Ed. Seriously, that was one of their absolute best works and now it was so quickly overshadowed by the Heresy. Such a shame! So many missed opportunities from FW.

Well, I guess it does still leave White Scar players hanging, but mostly cause I'm tired of heavy bolters being the only special thing about my army.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with him being a DA player and me being a BA players.
