Subject: Re:The Infinity News and Rumors Thread - The 2017 Edition
The Haqq models are fantastic but unfortunately are models I don't think I'll use much.
My Tarik has a Spitfire, and while I'm tempted to buy another current Tarik to popp the arm off and give him his AP rifle back, I'm in no hurry. I don't think I'll really find much use for a boarding shotgun Ragik. And controversially I am not a fan od Fidays, mostly because I can't make them work the way other Haqq players tell me.
I'll buy it no doubt. It's three gorgeous miniatures. But I'm not hopping at the chance so I won't be pre ordering. I've got no interest in the CSU.
I like the Yu Jing part of it well enough, they're all very nice minis too. But I don't know Yu Jing well enough to comment on the loadouts.

The Daofei is certainly awesome but unfortunately they made a model for his absolute worst profile. The HMG simply has no synergy with his infiltration and deploying in the middle of the board with an additional 16" of a "dead zone" is very lacklustre. Combined with the fact that he's "just" BS13 and mimitism/camo are VERY common, he simply cannot afford to have a weapon which then also shoots within the 0 rangeband, on top of models being in cover. You could always argue that you could just deploy him further back, but then what's the point of simply not just taking a Hac Tao HMG, spend 1 order on him to reach the same point and then reap the benefits of HD, TO Camo and BS14.
The Guilang is similar. The best and most requested profile isl by far, the FO. Instead they make a BS11 model, with an infiltrating sniper. Infiltration has almost no synergy with the sniper, costs 1,5 SWC and he's not even HD so what's the point?
Zhanying. Best model in the box. He can act as FO, Sensor, Mad Traps, Harris and Lt. I'm very happy for the model.

They're rather nice. I can see myself picking everything up.
As far as the Yu Jing loadouts go, the Zhanying is a solid bog-standard loadout. The Daofei is a little odd in going for an HMG on a Camo infiltrator, as is having a Multi Sniper Guilang. I'm sure that there are some people that use those loadouts, but I'm not one of them.

When I saw the Kriza Borac, I thought 'when did CA get a 2 player starter? Why am I seeing a Sogorat?

I find Infiltrating long range weapons good for extreme flanks. If you're patient you can unload on something from outside their LoS from across the board in a good range band unexpectedly. Not saying either of these are good for it as I have no experience with them, but I use my Al Hawwa sniper like that.

Still can't believe they chose to give Tarik a second sculpt.
Everything looks great so far, given CBs release pace it's hard to not be disappointed by choices like that though.
No good angle on the Fiday, so it's hard to tell if he's the 'maybe a Muyib' render that was released recently.

While I'm unsure about the utility in-game of some of those units, the sculpts continue to be top notch. Though, I did confuse that Swiss Guard for a Father Knight at first. That Kriza Boracs is just awesome. Like a Tunguska version of the Taskmaster. I think the Icestorm expansion is really winning me over.
Really wish CB would sculpt the Haqq spitfire to look like a gun and not a ping pong ball shooter. Tarik's spitfire seems to be a new sculpt of the spitfire and it still looks like butt.
Other than that and Nomads slowly becoming Morats, everything looks better than I expected. I don't want any of it (despite playing Haqq, Yujing and Pano) but it looks nice.

Oh I *do* like the models in the Ice Storm box, especially the Nomads. Plus I compulsively collect ABH models for.. reasons.. so I will be pre-ordering for sure. It just makes me sad that I've got a such a long wait before my Kazaks get this kind treatment! Hopefully they will have sorted out the weird proportion problems by then!
Faction Bias aside, I do like the Red Veil box better. Those Nomads are nice enough, but hold no appeal for me.
Note the greatcoats on the Yu Jing minis. Now, that is what I expect from CB, instead of the recent Zhanying coat of inflexibility/whatever it was.
Kamau could effectively pass for the recent Bagh-Mari HMG.
No comments on all the tactical debris, even the "classic Spiderman pose" Fiday's. The minis are good enough to draw attention away from it. Very good indeed. I like a dynamis Fiday.
Pre-order 24 July to 21 August. However, I'm sure it will be possible to get the LE minis after that. There are always extras.
I wonder if there will be more in those boxes. They do not look like standard CB packaging. By more, I mean printed scenarios and background.

They did a good job on the 2 new Hsien releases as well. This new coated HI looks ok in that regard.
I preferred the old black/green colors of the Daofei & I really miss the iconic head tail.
Oh well... lord knows I'm still buying both of these boxes.

Having recently been bit by the Caledonia bug, I am disappointed there's no Ariadna in this big new exciting release.
Hopefully AF will get a box set. Ariadna vs Aleph would be a good mashup

Is that a natural 21?

Isn't the Taskmaster also from the Tunguska sectorial?

The Taskmaster is from Bakunin.

We don't know everything that will be in Tunguska. Grenzers, Interventors, this new Bora Grizac are certain. Beyond that, probably the Securitate makes a comeback. And...
Looking at the 2 LE minis, I'm glad the CSU in with the Red Veil box. I like it much better than Joe Dirt, Bounty Hunter.

It's funny you should say that.
We actually have a very good idea what will be in Tunguska. Spektrs Securitate Interventors Grenzers Kriza Borac Hollow Men(We don't really know what these are, just that the name keeps coming up from Bostria/Interruptor) Naval Zondbots "Puppets" have been mentioned as well. We don't know what those are.
Edit: Duh. Somehow I forgot the Szalamandra.
We also know that they are going to have Black Hand assets. This was confirmed today; consider the Black Hand Sectorial idea dead.

HMG Daofei is largely fine, that high burst makes up for a lot of ills at close range and it can help deal with backfield snipers from midfield. The main reason I want a Spitfire is because a) it has never had a model and b) it is one of the best vanilla aggressive LTs we can run. But overall, the mini is fantastic and I'm just going to proxy it as a spitfire anyways. They managed to make the camo poncho look great which allays my fears of square coat syndrome. I will miss the cyber ponytail, but that is pretty firmly an ISS thing now, so I can see them not wanting to muddy the faction and sub-faction aesthetics. Though I will agree, I liked the original camo scheme a lot more (same for the Guilang). But they appear to be going toward a far more unified army paint scheme these days rather than some units bucking the trend.
The Zhanying is great and will be a flexible unit in the field, either cheap filler for Wu Ming links or part of those nasty Hsien Haris links.
But the Guilang... *ugh* the worse loadout for one of our best models. It is a BS11 infiltrating sniper. It has nothing going for it in terms of synergy or utility. I was really hoping for a new combi rifle one since it has the most general utility (and is one of our oldest models). It looks nice, but another Yu Jing sniper mini that will never see the field. The point of the Guilang is being cheap and flexible, that MSR is way to much of a point and SWC sink.
Still probably grabbing it anyways because I'm a Daofei fantatic, but I really wish they hadn't gone with the MSR Guilang.

By we, I meant: Me, Myself, and I Looks like I omitted the Spektrs. The remotes are an obvious include. I've never heard of hollow men or puppets. But then I don't follow Nomad rumors too closely.

Not more Zero-G units? My, those have so much use in game :S
OTOH, more AD zonds, like the meteor, that would be cool.
Well, now to figure out how to get the expansion. I'm thinking GameNerdz again. They did fine by me with the Fat Yuan Yuan. (Miniature Market never even offered it, AFAIK.)

Atomic Empire has them up for preorder now for $39.29 each. I'd assume Warstore will do it on July 24th(the start of the preorder period).
But there's probably more, since this is the GenCon release we're talking about.

Puppets immediately bring to my mind humanoid robot troops. Maybe the Nomad equivalent to Aleph's Tacbots. With the new Nomad aesthetics, that has the potential to be something really cool. Since Tunguska is supposed to basically be the tech wing of the Nomads, I can definitely see them having more robot units.

That or some kind of human that's been hacked and basically been turned into a slave.
The expansion box is pretty disappointing on the Nomad side. Is the third one just a Hellcat with a Combi? So you've got one fairly useless profile that you get in a starter box and ignore and another model that's pretty new and not really in need of a resculpt. I'm super excited for Tunguska in general, but that guy's carrying around a lot of baggage in his box.
