Seems like a wasted opportunity.
Yep. Seems like the "Gathering Storm" MO is going to be these new mono-pose giant sized plastic characters. Which is a huge shame, because I get infinitely more psyched about pretty much every bread-and-butter troop choice that comes out.
When I see stuff like the new Tzaangors, Genestealer Cultists and Hybrids, Skitarii etc, I get excited because it's a chance to make these cool, awesome models my own. The ones I make will be different, at least partially, from the ones everyone else makes and for me, a lot of the fun of the modeling aspect of the hobby is figuring out how to make my troops my own.
The mono-pose characters and monsters...eh, they've just never thrilled me, because at the end of the day my Aevatar of the Aeldari is going to be sucking up the very same souls as the next guy's, and my Onceler is going to be striking the same pose trying to convince the Eldar that everyone needs a Ynnead.
They're alright, I guess. I was more hyped FOR dedicated dark eldar players because I thought they were at least getting 1 of their stolen special characters back, but now it's similar to the sisters release for me. I'll think "oh, those are pretty neat", read the fluff summary, and skip the book. If there had been a new plastic sisters of battle troop box, with loads of options and goodies, I'd probably have bought 3-4...then a couple rhinos to drive around...then a couple organ tanks, because I've always thought those were nifty...then I'd maybe consider getting a celestine. It seems silly to buy into Sisters and Admech and Inquisition, but only with one model from each...
Exactly. While cool these special characters do nothing for me. New plastic aspects would have made me start an eldar army though.
I would agree but..............I think GW sees it this way:
We release super new Special Characters that can be used by Marines and yeah also all those other minor Imperial factions. The sales of a box set of new characters enhancing Marines is likely going to sell better than actual new stuff for all those piddly factions.
Same with Eldar - the seller will be CWE as its beyond broken and hence sells more models - so lets support that army but vaguely support the others.

Simon Grant - via MaulerUK on B&C
I've been saying this since speaking to Simon Grant at the Jan open day and he specifically said "We are not going to AOS 40k, we're just moving the clock another minute towards midnight...which is pretty good going considering it's been where it's at for about 30 years".
I can't get the books soon enough. Too many spoilers in the stream yesterday so I stopped watching after ~15 minutes. But it is good they now offer an extended insight into their upcoming books.

I'm pretty sure the pronunciation is just 'in' for Yn and 'iv' for Yv.
In-carn
Iv-rain
In-arr-ee
GW is an English company, the design team are largely English and based in England.
In England, the real name Yvonne is pronounced iv-on (like the words 'if' and 'on', but with a sharp V).
And it seems they definitely applied those regular English phonetics because they called the new Death Avatar thing 'The Yncarne'... which is The Incarnation of it's god.
Meaning Yvraine would in turn be pronounced iv-rain and the Ynnari are In-arr-ee. But I'm not sure if it's 'in-eed' or 'in-ee-ad' for Yneead.
I prefer the latter.
Vorian wrote:I can't remember how they said it. I agree that Duncan is the official word though!
On Twitch the guys were unsure how to pronounce Gyrinx (even though they are native English, GW HQ employees)... one went for Grinks, the other for Jrinks (almost exactly like 'drinks'). Duncan called it a Guy-Rinks in the painting video whereas I'd assumed it followed the same phonetics as gyrate, gyroscope and giant (so 'jy-rinks').
But I agree with you, Duncan's version sounds best haha

Oh also, guess who found an original metal Gyrinx on eBay recently... thought it was just going to be a novelty item (although you could take one which acted like a spell familiar for the Corsair Psyker in IA Mymeara, before Forgeworld recently updated the book) but hopefully 'Fracture' makes it a bit of wargear I can give to other characters now!

Yeah I always did too, but it's double-e before a which kinda doesn't have precedent.
For just an ending of eed or ead I'd pronounce it 'eed', but eead seems like it could also be pronounced 'ee-ad'
English is great hey...
They also said they didn't know how to pronounce Gyrinx even though they work at GW HQ, so who knows..!

Interesting that you'd say that, when CWE has historically gotten the same model support or less than most other factions. The last time they had kits was when Harlequins were released....2 years ago? More? I guess they did get an Eldrad in Death Masque. You'd think if GW was really truly trying to put in model support for only the most broken factions, they'd be jumping right on the Plastic Warp Spider train.
And as for rules support, have they gotten anything new since the utterly busted Eldar codex those same 2 years ago?
If GW was trying to hock rules for only the competitively broken armies, why have we seen nothing for Necrons and Eldar rules-wise since their respective codexes, but we have seen...what was it now, FIVE chaos marine supplements in the last year? This is not to say CSM doesn't deserve rules support, they do and I'm super glad that they're now a solid upper mid-tier/mono-build high tier army thanks to TL, but it really doesn't support the narrative that GW somehow only supports those factions that are already strong.

Hoo boy.
Let's do this.
5 Chaos Marine supplements you say? Sure, let's go there.
Black Legion - reprint of the 6th ed. Supplement.
Crimson Slaughter - reprint of the 6th ed. Supplement.
Traitor's Hate - new, I will give you that....
Wrath of Magnus - also new, I will give you that....
Wait....wait a minute. Wait. No.
Both reprinted in Traitor Legions.
Heck, why are CSM still using a base codex that harks back to the very start of 6th edition? Why are they still using horrendously overpointed units and upgrades, crippled by a lack of options because 'you might possibly get them in the boon table' ?
5 new supplements and you can comfortably say that 3 of them are giant reprints.
Hell, you want to count the amount of new Imperial SM supplements you got in the same time frame, including dataslates and campaign books?
I mean, bad enough the Traitor Astartes Disciplines (which are basically the SM Disciplines with spoooooooooooooooky names) have been printed in 3 books out of the 5.
|
Now only a CSM player. |

I was actually commenting on ths particular release schedule and I stand by my assertion
Which armies will see the most use of Celestine and co? In particular Celestine given that they did not even bother to give her Act of Faith/SHeild of Faith so if she actually joins other SOB units they can;t use them

I'm not commenting on that. It seems pretty pointless to speculate on what GW intends or not because it's speculation about the opinions of people I don't know.
I was just pointing out DSS wad arguing a different point to the Scotsman (who I thought made a pretty compelling argument showing tabletop power doesn't really have a correlation to the amount of attention)
That triumvirate list is looking more and more believable. I hope Abbadon isn't a great model so I can resist buying him

You would think that the third Triumerate would be last to lead into 8th edition, not a Space Marine. So that would mean what, March for the Chaos Triumerate.
Hmmm... read a comment on another site saying 8th edition would be released in April. So maybe this could be the last release for Gathering Storm, Chaos Triumerate would be the last one to end Gathering Storm and the Space Marine Triumerate would start of 8th edition.
Just doesn't seem right Space Marine ending Gathering Storm.
