I do think it's possibly best to make posts without starting to become personal?
I admit it was a terrible metaphor. But, the point remains. There are dozens of miniature manufacturers making Napoleonics, with similar numbers of rulesets easily available. I don't think this set is intended as a springboard to invest in the period, it's a one and done boxset - you can throw the box down, have ranked lines of infantry blasting each other at close range and get home in time for tea without having to spend time on forums reading about the correct shako types and colours to use.

And some people might want to enchance the experience by replacing the rather boring models with something bit more visually appealing while maintaining the game in the box style. I know I would replace the models with some 6mm ones from baccus. Still would be game in the box. Just with better looking armies.

What a bizarre conversation ...
- buy TravelBattle
- throw out minis
- replace with 6mm Bacchus
But why?
'I want to enhance my games of TravelBattle.'
But you don't know anything about the game design - you don't even know whether you will like it. If you want to play 6mm Naps there's literally no reason to wait for this game.
'I just want the board.'
But it's not that great as miniatures gaming scenery, especially if you are the kind of person who doesn't like the included miniatures to begin with. Plus they are pretty limited considering the fixed nature. As with the miniatures, if you want 6mm Naps scenery there is literally no reason to wait for this game.

Ah yes. Buy and use exactly as it is or you are committing heresy.
Guess you disapprove converting GW models as well then.

I am confused about why someone would want to buy something with
- rules they know nothing about
- miniatures they don't like/plan to completely replace
- scenery that is of the same type/qaulity as the miniatures they don't like
Meanwhile, it's easy to understand why someone planning to use the product as intended would want it.
As for whether there will be a market for the miniatures: yes of course there will be, although I doubt you will come close to getting your money back for them (esp since the Perrys have said more compatible minis are planned).
What's holding me back? I have the complete C&C Naps. Travel Battle could compete by being simpler but I'm not sure that ends up being a competitive edge. I suppose the other possibility - at least as far as my interests are concerned - is that Travel Battle might be less luck dependent.

Why not buy something you like from the company then? Or instead of buying something you don't like from the said company on purpose - give the money to a charity or a foster home?
I think that boardgame is a neat idea. That infantry stance is kind of lame though..

Sorry if I sounded like I was complaining, was not my intention. All the Perry Historicals I have bought have been great so this might also be. However, I have been meaning to do some 3mm Napolenoics plus I like the black powder rules. I thought this could make a good game to sit on my desk and play solo when working in the evenings. Have each hex as one standard move perhaps (it has been many years since playing black powder, forget exactly how it works). You see now why I want something small; four or six of these boards together would probably fit on the desk and still leave room for a keyboard.

It is very obviously a wargame, especially as it uses gridded movement (squares in this case versus the more popular hexes) Automatically Appended Next Post: Manchu wrote:What a bizarre conversation ...
