For a noob to Underworlds, can someone explain if the Universal cards from the warband expansions (ie the universal cards that come in the Wurmspat set) are the same as you get in the Beastgrave core set?

Does the universal deck keep expanding with each warband release?

Yes. Basically, every warband you buy will give you cards that any other warband can use. These can be things from ploys to Glory cards. You'll get the same cards in every box of the same warband you buy, ie, buying wurmspat twice will get you the same cards. But you wouldn't get the same cards if you bought one wurmspat and one Garrek's Reavers. You can view what cards come in what set on facebook and possibly the underworld website (Not sure if they specify what set the card came from on there)

All the card in expansion set are unique to their set. You can see them all at WU site https://warhammerunderworlds.com/deck-builder/ or other fansite.

Columbus, Oh

I got no issues with the dudes ovipositor and the drop.. that is fine.

I PERSONALLY dont like that small pet of a thing.. I am so personally used to nurglings, that I DO NOT like him..

I think I still have a "sassy Nurgling" from the 40k Champion that I will use instead..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

It's something we had mentioned in the Orion trilogy but hadn't ever seen, called a "Retchling".

Would have been a million times better to have a sassy Nurgling fighter on his own base for sure. Maybe he could pop out of a dead Blight...guy.

I love that idea, lol!

You could always use the sorc Nurgling from the GUO and two other Nurglings, stick them on eloborate bases and proxy the whole band! I have a Nurgling foot knight with a Bretonnia ailette as his shield and a dagger from "I can't remember" as a sword, so I'm one third there already.

The actual models are sooo nice, detail is sublime and they're different enough from what the Blight King kit builds (without conversions) to feel like characters. I might get another kit and do a Septimus with shield in action pose. And build a bigger Ghoulgoch for his upgrade card that makes him fatter, stronger and slower - if they turn into my main warband.

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

As everyone here is Underworlds savvy.
How useless is all of the season one stuff in present?
Cards, warbands and all. What’s invalidated (general play. Not going to any tournaments or anything, but would play people season current etc most likely).
I have a chance to grab basically all season one, 7 warbands and all their cards and the starter etc. just wondering what from it is not of use any more..?

The warbands and warband specific cards are still fine in any format. It’s the generic cards from season one that were rotated out in the ‘standard’ format (not sure on the specific name of the format), and the boards I believe.

Were the boards rotated?

I think one of the real downsides of the Season 1 warbands would be the lack of magic. I only play season 1, so I don't know how good or game changing having access to magic is (obviously, not every warband would have magic, like the Wolf riders, or the KO) but I could see it being a drawback. At the very least, buying the season 1 warbands would net you a bunch of useful universal cards, as well as some great looking models.

It’s really not. Magic is powerful but either it’s a ranged attack action (that has a chance of damaging you) or its a power card that has a chance of not working at all and also a chance of damaging you.
This is reflected in more powerful or unique effects but it’s pretty balanced overall and it’s not like you need magic dice to defend against spell attacks.

Magic give more option for the warband to score some easy, instant glory points.

On the other hand, S1 fighters have good stat.

It’s not like all the warbands since S1 have magic anyway.

The S1 Warbands are fully playable, with all their faction-specific cards still usable in tournaments.

Only the board (two sides) from the S1 Shattered City Board Pack.expansion is rotated out
https://www.underworldsdb.com/boards.php

Generally, the S1 warbands are not really up to par, powervise, with the newer teams though. They certainly can win, but I'd say they start on the backfoot against almost all S3 teams and maybe half of the S2 teams.

As Zywus says, though the main reason Shadespire bands are behind the curve is the lower threat range of the individual fighter. The fighters are mostly slower and gifted only with range 1 inherent attacks.

I mean certainly for now it would only be against other S1’s. As if the newer stuff hasn’t come out.

It is only when I possibly take it to outside my group where other people might have newer warbands to contend with.

What sort of level would it be if you used the S1 cards against later warbands? As I won’t be in competitive formats anyway (or if I did it would be far enough down the lone that I’d have bought newer warbands or cards etc most likely).

If anything, the power of cards went down in later seasons.

Yeah I have been clobbered by Grimskull and Magore enough times to think that the season 1 bands can hold their own, the only band that I have never seen do anything much is Eot9 and they are Nightvault. Also newer cards are backwards compatable so if you are just playing with friends then print off what you like to use.

Grimskull and Magore's bands have seen some slight mechanic nerfs, but they were always abnormally strong thanks to the way they Inspired compared to everyone else at the time.

I guess even if the cards are invalidated for me going forward. It’s £60 for the 7 warbands (no Farstriders) and their cards. Dice boards tokens etc.
If I decided to go current I’d be alright just getting a few warbands or Beastgrave or something..

Correct Danny, it is a good starting point for the price. And there are some universal cards from S1 that are useable in the current "Championship" format. If the card has been reprinted in S2 or S3, then you can use it.

I would say go for it as well, the game is really fantastic and one of the best balanced GW have put out, as you say if you wish to get upto date its not bank breaking to just pick up a couple of newer bands and I think the rules changes introduced into Beastgrave are easily accessible.

Yeah I thought it was a great price just for some really nice models alone, but then with all the Shadespire bits too it’s like a whole free game too, and I’ve been meaning to try the game out (although 7 warbands is a lot more investment than I would have thought ).
Hopefully I like the way the game plays! If so I will perhaps get just the new starter and then one or two other warbands (Ogres and Goblins look most interesting to me)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Callidus, sounds like it will be easy enough to sort through which cards come forward then, as and when I get there.

In fact, maybe not even the new starter then, and just the Ogre/gobbos, and potentially something else I like the look of.

As long as by the end of Shadespire it felt like a ‘complete game’ and played well, then it’s probably not too bad if that’s where I did stop.
It’s when you know a game needs a second edition/season that it feels like you’re always needing the newest stuff..

Can someone please help me with a timing question?

My Wurmspat clobbered Mollog twice and the Profiteers once over the weekend (well, one of those fights against Mollog consisted of running away from a ticked of troll for half the game with my surviving Rotbringer...). So far, so good, BUT when does Rampant Disease actually trigger? I always had it in my hand at one point bit didn't know how to really play it. It says deal one attack dice for all enemy fighters adjacent to a friendly fighter. It's also a CYCLE card.

So, does it go off when played, you roll a die for each enemy that meets requirement and the only thing the "CYCLE" moniker really counts for is getting objectives like Cycle of Decay?

PS: Getting Blessing of Rust on strong enemy fighters like Mollog in Round 1 and your opponent somehow never rolling a dodge feels good

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

Cheers, thank you.

They could FAQ this to "after every action", though. I know I wouldn't complain.

This game is just so much fun if it works. In the second game we both had terrible luck, so I ran a lot and it ended with 4 glory overall (I suicided Goughloch or however you spell it by killing the poison mushroom...I really thought it would only go off after a roll, but I was drunk). One hex of movement more and I would've gotten a few tasty glory from getting that objective token. So that was kinda lame. But the last game had me scoring all three of my objective cards at end of the third round, that was a great feeling. And the upgraded, oversized butcher guy made up for his shameful death by killing 4 or 5 Kharadron. And probably eating them. I just never got a use out of the vomit upgrade.
