Some of the same sculptors that sculpted Infinity. Models have a very Haqq/Nomads vs Tohaa/Combined look. Also, they're in Spain.

You're going to need to change the thread title. This is an announcement for the game's retail release, not another Kickstarter.

Bostria from Corvus Belli throwing shade:

Also says that Corvus Belli showed Zenit Miniatures how to make metal miniatures. The drama may thicken:

Didn't we see this one before? It wasn't able to fulfill and got picked up by Zenit?

Or was that a different Spanish scifi game?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I had a good laugh about Bostria throwing shade.

I mean, we totally didn't just get a not-Guardians of the Galaxy Moderator box or not long ago get a not-Highlander and Braveheart Caledonian Highlanders box right?

There's another SciFi name by a spanish sculptor named Nicolas Diaz that made a game called "Last Saga".

The models look similar, you're right. Seems like they did get picked up by Zenit.

It's the same game. A lot of the initial work had to be redone after Rocket Games got ripped off by their original production guy. As I understand it, a lot of the 3D files were either unusable or missing. Rocket Games had to use what was left of their money to salvage things and sold what was left to Zenit. Zenit then continued and finished production.

I find it odd Corvus Belli are only just now becoming aware of this since it's been around for a couple years now.

I agree the original kickstarter ended in May 2014, and i think some of the same sculptors worked on the miniatures.

So Corvus Belli is claiming full rights to anything that closely matches their version of anime-cyberpunk sci-fi now?

Guess all the other manufacturers doing non-gothic grim dark sci-fi need to close up shop.

Speaking on the quality of models, they look sharp, and the paint jobs are stellar as well.

To be fair Last Saga miniatures images doesn't look like "not-infinity" by themselves. Honestly they should have done completely different paint jobs and that is what making them look like copycats. It isn't so much the style of look of the miniature as it is the paint job that puts them into the "not-infinity" category.

Some of those minis look lovely.

There are definitely a lot of elements they have borrowed from the Infinity concept and aesthetic; the 'hard' sci-fi and anime elements, non-heroic proportions, the Tohaa-style alien guys and the little Poke-bot things.

But, a lot of these are tropes (you could come to the same conclusion about how a future soldier might look from reading a Neil Asher book).

Agree with Dark Severance, think the colouring and air-brush painting definitely makes it look a lot closer to Infinity than it otherwise would.

That they are both in Spain and the company have had some involvement with each other makes me think that is the source of the ill-will, and wonder if you wouldn't have had the same reaction by CB if it had been done by some random company in Nottingham for instance.

You know you're hitting the mark with some great miniatures if you've got the public face of Corvus/Infinity making some pretty childish and petty comments on your social media page!

The minis really are lovely! A bit of competition for CB at this stage is no bad thing imo.

As a fan of the aesthetic I can't wait to see what they produce next!

Yes and complaining about other people producing sci-fi wargames models is totally GW's schtick anyway.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Yeah CB because you had obviously never seen any anime before making the highly original Infinity and all those minin's that look like actors is a coincidence as well.

Anyway not sure why he is getting particularly pissy since zen hardly went out of the way to design a game they picked it up originally as an assist and then bought it. Besides no boob windows, no nuns, no combat heels, no cat girls, no pigeon toe knock knee poses so not really like any recent infinity releases at all.

My only complaint is I still don't have my kickstarter stuff and there ignoring my mails.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

The concept of making metal miniatures isn't exactly new, or difficult. Same for using 3D printed sculpts as masters.

No sign of the cheesecake army, aka naked space dark elves, though. I wonder if those will stay.

Anyway, Infinity has let itself get way, way too bloated anyway. Some competition is good.

The Empire State

It was a kickstarter back in May of 2014 by Nicolas Diaz of Rocket Games.

Rocket Games contracted a number of sculptors. Sculpting time led to delays.

Where the game hit the biggest road block was they got ripped off by a German caster which took the money and gave excuse after excuse of why he could not deliver then led to radio silence.

At this time a handful of models from 2 factions (IIRC) were completed. The rest were in Limbo and the project was dead in the war.

Zenit came in and took over. This led to some further delays as some models needed to be re-sculpted. Some of the hand sculpted models for the empire were undersized and a few models were not caster friendly.

Back in Feb/March I finally got my models which is a bonus, I wrote this kickstarter and my $200+ as a loss.

Yay Zenit.

Models quality is just as good as Infinity. I have some issues with some of the poses, but that is objective. Can't speak for the rules really as I only played the beta a few times about 3 years ago.

As I said in the Infinity thread, CB should be proud. You aren't a really important miniature company if you haven't a cult behind you of 3rd-party sellers of "Not-Yourproduct" things

As i said in the Infinity thread, it's not a big surprise that the style looks similar. Some of the figures (many?) were sculpted by CB sculptors. Unless Javier Urena kept his involvement in the project secret from CB, Bostria has probably known about this project for quite a while. Check Urena's deviantart page http://javi-ure.deviantart.com/gallery/

Those look pretty good.

And Carlos getting salty doesn't exactly cover CB in glory considering their sculptors and painters are all freelancers and their house style isn't exactly unique or original *cough*Shirowpunk*cough*.

He's not salty, it was some good natured ribbing.

If CB/Carlos was serious, they'd be all over this legally.

A small company like CB? Probably not actually.

As to whether it's good natured ribbing or a shot across the bow? Hard to tell (and mostly dependent on whether the reader is willing to give the writer the benefit of the doubt). The downside to social media is that you lose a lot of nuance and it is on the writer to clarify if they are being sarcastic or not.

CB doesn't really have anything legal to stand on. The whole similar-to aesthetic is exceptionally vague.

There's really not much legally CB can do. EU laws are way laxer then the US on designs. It's why a lot of companies small and large don't like to put out concept art unless they state they're currently working on making a miniature out of it. There was a thread several years on Frothers with an IP lawyer that basically how hard it is to enforce IP on things like this even when it's a clear copy let alone one that's aesthetically the same but obviously different like these. Seam like it's still that way based off of comments Jeb from Antenocities workshop about why they haven't shown off all the concepts of their infinity dropships even though they're pretty much all done.

But that wont stop the fans I guess. One of the large Infinity facebook groups is having a real freak out over this. Been kind of funny to watch.

If you're talking about WGC Infinity, it's pretty funny. They're now showing how poses are similar to Infinitys. Apparently they think Infinity poses are copyrighted.

I though they owned the Ragefist™ and Tactical Rock™! A trademark pose just like GW's Hey Guys I Found a Sword and a Pistol Looky Here™ pose.

The funny thing there is Carlos has stated many times in the seminars he does that the sculptors decide the poses generally and rarely are they dictated one so these aren't even copying CB's style as it's is that sculptor's style. It's really sad to see the WGC people saying that the sculptor should just change his style between companies--that's not why people hire specific artists. It's also like if people were complaining that the Perry Bro's stuff looked too much like GW stuff from 10+ years ago.

Albino Squirrel wrote:Wow, that's really childish and pathetic on the part of Corvus Belli.

I kind of thought so too but then I saw that Carlos posted on Zenit's facebook page in the product announcement itself and then proceeded to banter with people in the thread and you realize it's probably a joke. Though those posts are now gone so either Carlos deleted them or Zenit did. If it's the former then ya, joke, if it's the latter probably not.
