Ave dominus Machina!
For a while now I have a bitting sensation in my stomach whenever I think about my hobby and my Skitarii army plans... and I don't know how to put my finger on it... I can't seem to stop feeling anxious about the new edition - whether all my army plans will be gone, whether my Skitarii will be crammed into one force organization with Cult Mechanicus, whether units I already own will be reshuffled in terms of usability etc.
Do you fell the same void? I can't seem to feel energized by my hobby anymore, I just feel... anxious, waiting for the new edition while bitting my nails you know what I'm saying?

Same here, same army. Deus est Machina. I want to get 30k Mechanicum stuff, but I can't, because Fires Of Cyraxus isn't out yet, and I can't get new GW models because I don't know their rules. So I'm just doing commissions and twiddling my thumbs.

sit back and take a deep breath...Don't get stressed over how your armies are going to change (for once it looks like GW wont "invalidate" armies in a new edition)
Enjoy the break from the game if needed, temporarily until the new edition comes out (that's what I am doing).
Actually..this is a pretty cool time to be in the hobby. GW is changing the game a great deal. Most of what I have seen is pretty good (considering GWs past).

yes, they will be. If you check the site, it shows the new factions, and Adeptus Mechanicus is listed as one faction, the Skitarii and cult both a part of it.
Kandela wrote:whether units I already own will be reshuffled in terms of usability etc.
Yes, with this many rules changes, that will inevitably happen.

And I love it. Think about it. We're T3 with FNP, armour 4+. Getting AP4 today is not hard, and getting S6 is laughably easy. That means negating all our survivability is child's play. With the new armour penetration system, anything that goes against your armour now goes against marine armour too. That means they have to be much more sparing with it, meaning we'll get armour saves! We don't know how FNP will work yet, but assuming we still have that, we at least have a chance to have it work now! Machines are completely different and seem to have armour saves, which may make our striders viable.
Lay away the trepidation, brother. This is good news. There are good times ahead. At least for us, and for the glory of the Omnissiah.

Personally I'm pretty preturbed by the changes that are already known for my armies. While they're not necessarily all bad, they'll definitely mean I have to change the way I play those armies. I'm pretty anxious about that, I don't particularly want to see the models I've invested so much time and money in just become unusuable because of an edition change. But it's also a pretty exciting prospect. Who knows what new options and strategies will be available if the new edition?
I guess you could say it's not really something to be anxious about. There's nothing you can do to change what the new edition will hold and chances are you will find a way to adapt your hobby, your army and your playstyle to the new changes. Fear of the unknown is always scary though, and getting tidbits and dribbles of information will just fuel that anxiety. Perhaps it's time to take a break from the hobby for a few weeks and come back when the sands have settled to see what changes you need to make.

I'm only anxious because I wanted to build another battle company with Dark Ascension and it looks like that set has already gone the way of the doodoos from the local stores (which has discounts).
Other than that, with SW:A tying me over, I'm not too anxious.

I have been playing since 1st edition and have 3 armies dating from then (some vintage models still see table time ). Every time the ruleset changes, some units go out of fashion while others become the new hotness. I have long since stopped worrying about this. My armies will still be playable. Old units that I have not fielded for a while may get a new lease of life. I will have reasons to buy and paint new models. I will get to play new games against old Grodz.
Change is the only constant.

There will be good, there will be bad. Anxiety over edition changes is nothing new, and is sometimes warranted.
Ultimately however, 7E needs to go bye-bye. Whether 8E will be a fitting replacement is up in the air, but with 7E needs replacement badly.

Everything changes; nothing is sacred. Look forward to change, and how one day that too will change. Look forward to seeing highs and lows. Revel in the fact that tomorrow may bring greater joys, or terrible sorrows. Not just a good lesson for dealing with the transition to 8th, but good life advice in general.

I'm kinda curious why the thought of being able to mix skitarii and cult mechanics more easily worries you. I'm still kinda annoyed we never got a good way of mixing them that didn't either hurt canticle usage or require really specific lists, so I'm hoping they just merge the two this time around.
I suppose sitting on a bit of cash waiting to see what ends up being good is similar, but overall I'm more excited than worried. The fact my rangers already look to be far better just going off weapon rules made me excited, and I'm crossing my fingers Ironstriders might be more usable when they aren't made of tinfoil and failure.
Dunno, maybe I'm just optimistic, but the new edition looks pretty good for me, at least as a CSM/Skitarii/Mechanicus owner.

Well, I'm sitting back and take a break atm.
Not sure how the 8th edition will develop.
GW is not the greatest table-top company when it comes to the release of a new rule set.
I expect gaps, loop holes, OP and underwhelming units everywhere.

I'm endlessly annoyed by what feels like GW studiously taking the "what not to do when rebooting your game" list and using it as their playbook. I'm frustrated at the fact that GW categorically refuses to sit down and iterate until the game works, instead of throwing a wrench in the machine and scrambling to try and make it not explode immediately every few rulebooks. I'm irritated that "bigger is better" and "use many words to say nothing" have become GW's central policies.
But I wouldn't say I'm anxious. I'm more...I don't know...resigned? I've come to the conclusion that 8e is going to be a hot mess, I'm going to have to continue ignoring the fluff in my Codexes to stave off a rage-induced aneurysm, and I'm going to have to start patching the game to function on day one, but that's been true for at least six years now and I haven't been pushed far enough to ragequit yet.
So yeah. I wish GW could stop acting like a slightly dim twelve-year-old writing bad fanfiction for their own game and actually give a s***, but that doesn't seem particularly likely.

I'll also be honest when I say the overall rules I've seen so far seem perfectly adequate and I don't see anything I can already guarantee will need fixing?
Dunno, I'm fairly new to the actual game compared to many people, but most of the rule changes I've seen fix obvious issues without creating any obvious new ones.

Wouldnt say Im anxious but certain rules give me concern, notably random run and charge rules and how battleshock will work across all factions (fearless, atsknf, Nids, Ork mob rule et al).

I don't have a lot of concrete data beyond a general distrust of GW's editors at this point, but I do know from what we've been told that they're probably going to be porting over the rule-of-1 one-cast-attempt-per-power-per-army-per-turn thing from AoS to prevent mortal-wound spam from getting out of control, which I suspect means I'm going to need to start my homemade GK book over again almost immediately.
If they're going to make Grey Knights pay points to be psykers and then tell them "you get one attempt to cast Hammerhand and one to cast Banishment across your entire army each turn" they're just going to end up grotesquely overpriced and useless again.

No. But I am curious which armied will do good, and will match my playstyle. My imperial guard, space marines or orks, or maybe it's time for a new army in form of adeptus mechanicus or tau with their newer models and focus on ranged weaponry, or maybe chaos with either Death Guard or Thousand Sons. Or tyranids?

Judging by similar cases, I don't think that'll be as much an issue. I'm not sure that rule will carry over to 40k, and even if it does it should not be a huge issue. AoS took units that depended on using spells every turn (horrors) and simply rolled one of their basic powers into the unit. Force for example has already been rolled into the basic weapon (see rubric marine sorcerer), no longer requiring a psychic test or similar.
As for why I don't think it'll carry over, we already know the 40K psychic phase keeps a level of complexity over age of sigmar, with lores/disciplines for armies rather than simply having units gain signature spells. Also, looking at the Rubric Marine Sorcerer, what point would there be to giving him a weaker version of smite he'd never cast when a better psychic could cast normal smite (It is explicitly mentioned as still being smite, so would still conflict with the one cast per turn). It seems to indicate, at least to me, that they were weakening it for that unit because the unit and thus the spell would could be spammed.
So yeah, just from what we've seen now, it seems unlikely to be a rule, and if it is I see signs they can mitigate its effects on psyker heavy armies. So hopefully that'll set your mind at ease a bit.

I'm pretty excited about the new edition, personally.
I'd think that admech/skitarri would be excited too. I know a guy who plays war convo, and he has to have like 4 codexes and juggle like a dozen canticles (or cankles, as I call them).
IDK about you, but I'd be stoked to not have to do that anymore.

This is basically what I do. I'm starting a Inquisition Army with intention of doing a mixed Tempestus Scions+Celestine+Greyfax+ SoS+Custodes and maybe even a squad of Grey Knights or Primaris Marines that in my head are gonna be just Normal Marines but with better rules and scale to be visually more beautiful at the side of normal humans.
I care 0 for the rules.

Tough Tyrant Guard
|
I share your worry, though for my nids. One to many time my army had gotten worse with an edition/codex update (started 5 days into 5th). I'm just fearful that Tyranid monsters will still be suffering from T6Sv3 itis. And with the change to wounds that means bolt guns will be tearing through my big bugs, and leadership will delete half a swarm if one catches a cold. And you can bet your schmekels that Flyrants are getting nerfed into oblivion.
My biggest fear is that Instictive Behavior will continue to be an unnecessarily prohibitive rule that will continue to punish tyranids players simply for their army choice. And leashed to that the inevitable synapse tax on units which will continue to be over costed unarmored terminators that are deathly allergic to heavy bolters/NuMarine Rifles.
So yeah. I'm anxious.

I'm looking forward to all these changes, and cant even stand to play another 7th edition game right now.
I haven't had the need to check YMDC message board all month since, well, who cares anymore.
I don't have to write up and post any more lists, or check the Armylist forum to see which netlists to look out for/learn from.
Getting alot of painting done now, with hopes of being fully completed with the Death Guard stuff (just in time for all new stuff thus never ever finishing anything!).
The only anxiety is the wait... and the ait for more CSM and Ork news.

Well yeah everybody remotly sane is a bit anxious, since all we have are sporadic info.
We know pretty much how things will look like from afar, with no real detail, and more importantly, we don't know how the new armies are redone, neither the new units profiles.
Even though we had some profiles given as examples, they are still pretty vague, since you can't compare them with much else.
