Hello everyone, I'm not really sure where this topic belongs but here goes.

8th has got me really pumped for the hobby, since its announcement I've finished painting nearly 4000 points over various armies, acquired enough terrain to finally feel a bit of variance in my home games, and just all around ecstatic for how things are going. Part of this has been improving my skills enough that I finally feel confident enough to start doing commissions (If anyone has tips for reaching out to potential customers this is a big new part of my life that I'm trying to grasp), but more than that, it has me wanting to get others as excited for the game as I am. One really big victory if you can call it that is getting some of the original guys that got me into the game almost 11 years ago back into the hobby, even though they've all moved on and nearly forgotten about the game we loved as teens. Another one that I'm currently working on is making the game more accessible. A lot of people I know aren't comfortably with Battlescribe or constantly looking up profiles and all with the way the new books are written so I came up with a solution. I started out with Tyranids because my babies are BACK! in this edition for sure, but I'm nearly finished with Vanilla Marines/Dark Angels. I'll be banging out Chaos next and see where the wind takes me but I wanted to extend this gaming aid to the gaming community at large. I'm not asking for any compensation, I just want everyone to game and game better.

The idea is simple. I just sized a MtG card and sleeve for a Microsoft word document, threw together a profile and the most important special rules, and fit 8 to a page. Anyone can print these out and use them to keep track of the many many wounds we'll be taking from our opponents, quick(er) reminders for who has that mortal wound charge ability, who has a hit modifier, and just which keywords everyone has at a glance. I'm pretty sure we can't show actual GW stat lines on the site so here is a mock up to give you an idea. If anyone is interested in these let me know in a PM and I'll send em over. If anyone is able to maybe exchange the info from the fw books that I wasn't able to get yet I can include those profiles in the documents as well.

Happy gaming everyone, and here's to GW really kicking it up and revitalizing more than just a couple tomb worlds

Thought about double sided print?

Ie a card with statline, key word, and weapon stats on back so its on card, all info in one?

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I have no clue how Dakka's moderation work. I expect it involves throwing a lot of d100 and looking at many random tables.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

I haven't found a format that I liked for the weapons profiles yet but anyone could take the ones I have and just make extra pages with the weapons on them and just double side print them then. With this format I just leave the rulebook open to the weapons summary page and I have everything else I need right there

I had considered the same setup as the profile but leaving the abilities off and just marking those at the bottom like the rules would be for a model. Prioritizing unit profiles right now though

You actually can post anything that appears on the dataslate. all those rules are supposed to be released for free.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

No they aren't. The only free rules are the core rules.
Zero unit rules are free.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Yep they had to give away AoS to interest people in that crap.

Lots of people liked AoS and hated 8th Edition Fantasy.

For 40k 8th, calling the core rules free is a bit of a misnomer. It's impossible to play a game with the core rules only. As such, the "free rules" are somewhat useless. At a minimum, you have to spend 25 USD on at least one Index book and hope both players' armies are represented. Age of Sigmar can legitimately be played for free, assuming you own models. You never have to pay for rules or separately for unit rules. No idea why 40k still does this. It's definitely not an industry standard at this point.

WarmaHordes - Full core rules are free and unit rules are included with units.
Star Wars X-Wing - Full core rules are free and unit rules are included with units.
Star Wars Armada - Full core rules are free and unit rules are included with units.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar - Limited core rules are free and unit rules are free online. If you want to play the 'matched play' variant, 25 USD allows you to support all armies.
Warhammer 40k - Limited core rules are free. Unit rules are not free. If you want to play the 'matched play' variant, full rules are currently $235 to support all armies.

Which one of these is an outlier? Warhammer 40k is the only table top game in the top 5 that requires you to purchase the unit and the unit rules separately.

Probably work

I used to do something similar when playing pathfinder. I'd buy a deck of playing cards, print out spell into formatted to card size, and then paste the printouts onto the cards. It's a good idea here too. I second the weapon profiles on the back and maybe even power level/PPM somewhere on the card as well.

I have not been able to find it yet but the did say they were going to be releasing the individual data slates for the units for free onthe web ste. That would not include psychc powers, army wide rules, or any of the rules for any of the guns that do not show up directly on the dataslates. So you woul be very limited in how you could build them and and such but you COULD buy a box, assemble it and learn the game. The indexes get you point costs, the rest of the war gear, psychic power tables and army wide rules.

I don't know when or where those dataslates will be but that is what GW said would happen, which is why they have been showing off the dataslates in the previews and why the dataslates don't have the info for every option on them and why they don't have any of the point costs on them.
