Haven't really done much with GW models since 5th edition when the flight stands were just the straight rods. How are people liking the new ones such as what the Primaris jump troops use? Are they still pretty brittle and more prone to snapping? Wondering if I should take the time to make my own out of plexiglass.

Same. Flight stands are terrible things.
Here is a beautifully painted model. Now shove a cloudy piece of plastic up its backside.

Metal rods for me
the new ones are fiddly AF, dont fit on GWs own plastic industrial bases, and the connection looks fragile.
i went with a coat hanger wire.

I use hobby wire. (Actually, fence wire from Canadian Tire)
Run it out of the back of your jetpack and connect it to the base in a way that roughly approximates how you imagine their trajectory would look, then bulk it up with green stuff in a spiral, thinnest near the jetpack, thickest at the base. Then pick at it to make it look like flames and smoke.
Looks fluffy and is more secure than the plastic flight stands or the wire on its own.

I prefer to build up the terrain on the base, something like a nice tall rock that just grazes the models shin, and then pin and glue the sucker until it more likely to brake at the knee then where I connected the model.

I am using the plastic stands they came with for my primaris I did not glue them to the model (only the base) I am probably going to add some green stuff under the jet pack to act as a pin holder so they come on and off. they seem pretty flimsy and I think they will break in transport with models on. worst case I will use some acrylic rod (fairly robust stuff) and make my own holders for them again with green stuff or drilling what I put there. sure they will not be winning any awards for looks as you could see the mount point from a bottom angle btu on a gaming table you could not tell

For the Inceptors, I found that the plastic stands were difficult.
So, I cut the ends off of them, and drilled holes into the Inceptors, right below the backpack, above the belt. The stands fit beautifully.
They also transport a lot easier.

Not really a fan of the new ones, honestly. At least, not from a purely modeling standpoint, as the connection is in a somewhat awkward spot to get to, and it's only a surface connection so there isn't anything to reinforce the bond.
So, I just drilled some brass rod into one of their feet, and attached them tippy-toe to some rubble to make it look like they're just taking off or landing.
GW flight stands in general I don't like, due to how easy the plastic breaks. Once I found Corsec Engineering and their omni-stands, I've never looked back.
