WANT SOME WANG???

A super simple gaming aid - track wounds and damage on models/units/characters for tabletop and role-play games.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1680464271/woundwang

A good pal of mine at the HATE Club, East London, has been developing these over the last couple of months, and now they're finally at a stage to kickstart. It's an acrylic arrow with marks to track wounds, including tens and units for big models. The wounds are tracked via an O ring that is easy to move up and down the wang, but won't move by accident, unlike dice which often get swept up, knocked over, etc. It looks like a really simple idea, but a lot of work has gone into making it as good as possible - I play tested some at Warhammer Fest this year. Here they are in action, squashing Alpha Legion...

Monk is a great guy. He's a theatrical/arts fabricator and designer, so spends his days building crazy but functional installations and knows how to engineer a good product. He doesn't use a lot of forums, though, so the good people of HATE club are out promoting.

GET YOURSELF SOME OF HIS WANGS!!!

Is that a differing language/slang thing or was it intentionally named after a euphemism?

Judging by those hastags they're deliberatly taking a joke and running it into the ground.

And my D20's are still better for this.

If you check the shape of the thing, there can be little doubt

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT

So, one of the reasons for these is to avoid using dice.

Dice get knocked over by other dice, or hands, or anything else moving across the table. They fall off bases. If they're d6 shaped, they get accidentally picked up. I've always used big purple d10s for wound tracking and was a little skeptical when Monk was first trying these out, but having actually tried them at WH Fest they are MUCH better. They cannot in any way be accidentally changed, even if they fall on the floor or something. Important when you've just knocked that d20, or it's just fallen off that Land Raider, and you're trying to remember if it had 15 or 14 wounds left.

I find them really useful.

Will these work for Kings of War following CoK rules? Because I never play without CoK.

Only if you have the right ratio of Wangs to CoKs.

Hmmm, they kind of look too obtrusive and clutter up the field. Perhaps if they were just leaned against the rear or sides of the vehicle. An interesting design, despite an infantile name.

You're too late though, armor penetration and rear facings are no longer a thing.

The photos show the orange version. There is a smoky grey version too. If rhe kickstarter does well enough, there will be other colour options, and if you buy a huge batch, you can choose a custom colour. But by huge I mena £250+, so I mean enough for a whole games club.

Intresting concept, but very distracting. Dice are subtle and smaller.

Smaller, yes, but I find the sight of dice on the battlefield worse. I've always hated it. I played my first game of 8th today and used these at the aforementioend HATE club. With the high wound totals on models these days, they are way better than loads of dice. I plan to get smoky grey ones, or yellow if yellow gets unlocked. Grey won't stand out so much and yellow will blend with my Lamenters.

I think it would be a good idea to add something to represent things like running, gone to ground, routing/panic etc. Two circles at the bottom end of the wang could accomplish this to hold tokens.

Sorry that's confusingly described so I mean is it should look like this: 8==>

Anyway, a cheeky take on a useful alternate wound-marking system.

Useful, for sure...but not something I'd want to see on the table. And not because it's wang shaped, but it's massively destroying any aesthetic present in the wargame. Now, perhaps keeping these off the table (marking them with dry-erase?) or something? Sure...but at that point I'd just use a wound sheet, etc.

The fewer tokens and large pieces of acryllic on the table, the better.

Wow, the hand model in that video is amazing, moving all those toys around in such a demonstratorly way. I wonder who that was?
