Well first let me thank you for checking this out.
So I am playing with space marines and they come with bolt pistols. However I don't have any bolt pistols to model on the mini. Do I have to habe the pistols on the marines to be legal?
May sound dumb but if rather not get there and not be able to play.

I have been trying to remember if I have actually read any requirement for WYSIWYG this edition, so I don't know what the actual RAW are.
I know in the past it's been a case of "any standard weapons that are part of the basic profile are carried by the model, even if you don't see them". So models with grenades have them if the profile says they have them, even if you didn't glue a single grenade on any model. But any optional upgrades had to be modeled. So any Space Marine carries a bolter, bolt pistol, and grenades. If you upgrade one of them to a plasma gun, he should be holding a plasma gun.
Other than clarify for your opponents to easily see what weapon a unit is carrying, I don't think it matters all that much. You choose which model dies, so there is no need to target that specific model carrying the weapon. But it helps to see that the weapon is still part of the unit.

Depends on the place hosting the tourney or whatever.
Thing is true wysiwyg has never actually been possible. Many artifact or relic or whatever wargear simply does not have bits made for it. On top of that many normal wargear does not have bits. (Ever see a necron overlord with a tachyon arrow?) And then there is kits not coming with enough of, or any, of the bits they are capable of using according to the rules. (nid spike rifles haven't had a bit since they were made out of metal).
As long as the guy with a pistol is very distinct and you make it abundantly clear what they have, or they all have pistols so there is no confusion about it, then it should all be fine. The most important part of Wysiwyg is ensuring clarity for you and your opponent. Adhere to that and the rest is bunk.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

your basic marine has a bolt pistol, Bolter and grenades. Bolt pistols and Grenades are generally never a WYSIWYG requirement in tournaments. Usually it is the special weapons that would be the issue. Lascannons should be lascannons and not a Heavy Bolter. Plasma guns should be Plasma guns and not a melta and so on.

It all depends on your group or the tournament organiser in particular.
The general rule is that the model is ok as long as it does not create any confusion that could be abused.
Some groups reckon that if a marine is modeled with a plasma gun, it must wield a plasma gun, as it would be confusing if it counts as something else.
Some groups, like mine, are ok with a miniature having a different weapon than the one is modeled with, as long as it is clear what it has, because it not realistic to have models for all weapons and having to restrict your choice because of it is not pleasant. For example, saying "all plasmas are meltas" would be ok, but not "one of the plasmas in the unit is a melta, the other is still a plasma".
