I see a lot of bat reports online for 8th ed that are 2000 points

Do you think the new standard for tournaments will be 2000 points?

The biggest 40k torunament rules-set in Germany (TTM) is sticking to 1850 for now. They said the games are not playing as fast as expected.

This is the second thread of this.

ITC has said they're tournies are 2000pts and love 'em or hate 'em they're the biggest player in the tourney scene so most others will follow suite.

Doesn't mean there won't be bigger or smaller tournaments, just establishes that the baseline IS 2000pts.

I wish that people ran middle range points values per table as suggested by gw namely -1000 on a 4x4, 1000-2000 on a 6x4 and 2000+ on an 8x4. So 1500. Maybe 1650.

Most of my previous 1850 lists ended up around 2000, was the same for my friends. So yes, makes sense to set it at 2000 now. Roughly the same army size but adjusted to the new point system.

Except if you drop the vehicles it's considerably more troops than it was before. In my group we're doing 1750-2000 depending on whatever random reason we have to pick a number. Just like we did before. I'm sure the tournaments will decide a number within the next year that they prefer. Maybe it'll still be 2000 then. It's a nice round number, so why not.

Most all our games so far have been 2000, give or take a fudge factor: even folks that had an 1850 list for 7e and nothing else are finding those same units are coming out to around 2000ish. It'll be a lot less if all you had were foot-QWOPers, possibly a lot more if you had bike or vehicle spam, but a mixed infantry-and-big-stuff list at 1850 is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000 now.

Although, even in 5/67e, a lot of us were playing at 2000 points anyway.

Weirdly, 1000-1250 on a 4x4 feels right. 2000 has felt very snowball-y and alpha-strike dependent, less about what happens on turn 4 and more about if you killed two rhinos on turn 1.

I'm noticing higher point costs don't seem to play much slower than mid point costs. As this tends to be an infantry spam edition so far (in my area) the large infantry blobs (or multiple smaller units depending) that slow down the game are the first things to be added to lists as well, while higher points result in the easier to deal with additions like flyers and vehicles that cause fewer problems. Plus it's just hard to fit more than 1-2 tanks into 1500 or so list when that's a third or fourth of your points.

That's just my observation though.
