The 2017 Battle for Salvation 40K Grand Tournament will adhere to the following
format rules:
-We will follow all rules of the ITC including missions, format, and army
composition. See primer pack below.
-Maximum of 3 detachments
-No single model units of Power Level exceeding 31 will be allowed.
-Each Forge World unit will have the restriction of 0-1 any given unit per Detatchment. This does not
mean you may only take one FW unit in your army, but rather each FW unit may
only be taken once per detatchment . So at most 3 Malific Lords
-The Death Guard and Adeptus Mechanicus codices will be legal.
-You must use all current rules for units in a Codex.

Ed,

Are you sure you have the right ITC packet? Those look like the 7th ed rules. I see this for 8th on their page.

Just got a confirm that LVO will be including Nova missions. We will have a post in the next few day on if we will be including NOVA missions as well.

I'm not familiar with how it works when ITC and NOVA missions are present... Aren't the two formats... very, very different from one-another?

Scoring is the same based on 19 points. We made some small adjustments to ITC secondaries to match Novas secondaries. And a couple other small tweaks.

they operate a little different but score off the same points value.Ran some tests playing both types of missions and it worked pretty good without confusion.

BAO did this and LVO looks to be doing it as well. Reason why we are doing both.

BTW we are at 50+ registered for BFS. which is the best we have ever done with a month to go.

Reece and I changed our respective scoring methods to align prior to 8th. I think ITC will probably change further eventually in response to 8th, and NOVA missions will continue to mature, but we'll keep our scoring aligned so they remain interchangeable.

PS- registered!

Sweet. For those of us not in the know, or with experience in one system over the other, where can we find these combined rules? So its the ITC style Primary for 8pts, Secondary for 8pts, and three Tertiary, but instead of rolling for secondaries, its the NOVA style pre-game list?

Sort of Mark. ITC has goal based and maelstrom style primary missions worth 8 points each. ITC secondary's are 3 pre determined goals.
We will be allowing players to choose the secondary goals from the same pool of secondaries offered in the Nova missions.
ITC maelstrom a have been modified to be less random similar to the Adepticon Maelstroms.

The packet has not been finished and once it is we will post it so players can get a look at it.
We have links to both the ITC missions and Nova missions on the site. All the changes generally are represented in these 2 packets.

Thanks Ed. That sounds really cool, and I like the idea of merging two of the more interesting ideas from both systems.

Also, sorry for giving you grief before about the FW restriction. I'm just a salty jerk who spent so much time painting this month that I forgot its all supposed to be about having fun... not treating 40k like another job.

The 0-1 forgeworld thing. Is it units from the FW index or any units taking FW rules. I.e. Raptor chapter tactical squads so they can benefit from Lias Issodon.

If that's the case then it's impossible to take Forgeworld chapters at all....

Good point SoV !

Any units taken from Codex SM that takes FW Chapter tactics are unrestricted...however take a "unit" from index FW and that unit is restricted to 0-1 ..and dont forget its "per" detatchment.

Ok cool! So its 0-1 per unit per detachment, so a detachment can have multiple 'different' FW index units.

This limitation is a lot more fair compared to Renegades GT, they are 0-1 unit per whole army. RIDICULOUS

Thanks SoV .. Bobby and i really struggled with how to do a FW restriction or even to do one at all. We reached out to a bunch of people in the community we respected and hopefully came to a "reasonable" solution. We acknowledge that this is far from a perfect solution and people still will be upset but all in all the response has been very positive and we appreciate it.

btw are you attending ? hope so we are almost at 64 registered players which has been traditionally our max. We can do more if needed but might have to do a wait list first.

Maybe you could help me (us?) out Ed. I'm probably just being thick as hell, but I honestly can't figure out scoring for the ITC/Nova mash-up format?

The packet Frontline Gaming has up is very confusing because it has really inconsistent language throughout. Some paragraph mention tertiaries, but then call the same things secondaries elsewhere, etc...

So, is it like Nova where you pick ONE of the primaries, or do you play both with the second functioning sort of like ITC Modified Maelstrom (minus the rolling?)

Yeah, i'm going with a combination of me just not getting it, and the packet being in a weird half-finished state?

Yes you play both primaries in those missions. And the secondaries you pick are only worth one each.

In the header of the nova missions it says to only select one primary. I suppose it could be clearer in the others if it said you must play both.

No problem. And you are correct that we replaced the standard itc marlstrom with something that adepticon tried last year. We felt this would give the players more agency in their scoring and less of a feeling of gloom if their opponent kept rolling good maelstroms each turn while they kept rolling the objective on the other side of the board.

Also by using the nova secondaries list no one can complain they lost on first blood unless it's their own fault.

Now that I've seen the packet too, i'm kind of in love. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ITC style missions/Maelstrom, and can't fathom playing even 8th edition straight out of the book (at least competitively), but I really like the longer list, the choice of objectives, but more-so, not being able to one dimensionally hope to score by doing precisely ONE thing over and over.
