One of the minis that first got me into gaming was the old Lord of Change.

This was a good while back- in those days, a Lord of Change was mounted on a square 40mm base, and wasn’t much larger than the ogres of the day and they fit into a blister pack.

The new Lord of Change may very well be the best mini Games Workshop has in its lineup. A very fine piece indeed, and I’m happy that I’ve gotten to paint it a few times now.

Here are two of them (for the same force).

Sublime work! The tonal contrast is great, especially the decision to keep the wings relatively dark. Any of a tutorial on the skin?

Lovely. How's the kit to work on?

Unreasonably well done!
You even got the weird flirps on the wings elbows to look cool.
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice work, I know what a b**** this model can be, only halfway there with it. You've done a nice job, particularly the head and neck for me.

Loving the colours and the blending on the skin is amazing, the only critique I'd have is the gems not being painted and the goldwork

No tutorial, but let me see what I can remember.

I started out with two basecoat colors- the blue and the underbelly- which I started out with light grey. I then did some wet blending between the two colors over all the areas where there should be transitions (like the neck and just below the shoulders).

They both got shaded and highlight separately (the blue went down with a blue black mix and up with a vibrant turquoise (probably skink blue- but I added a lot of water to mine so that it is less "dry"). The underbelly went up with a pale skin tone. When highlighting the blue, I intentionally went just a little into the underbelly areas, which also helps the transition between the two colors.

Last, I picked up a vibrant magenta and glazed over a few spots- the nose, the elbows and knees- that sort of thing. This could also be used to cover up areas where the blending wasn't working, although I don't think I did that so much with these guys.
