There's a +1 wound Warlord Trait? I would think this would be one of the worst since on things with low wounds, it might actually push them high enough for them to be targeted outside of bubble wrap, and in anything high enough, it's just a speed bump.

It's +1 wound and 6+ FNP rolled into one. Direct upgrade over the warlord trait that most people have been taking.

Confused now. This isn't what they get according to the WarCom article: +1 attack on the charge.

Fringe case: Daemon Prince takes this trait and rolls an 11 for a Chaos Boon. Depending on our Legion missions, this might be something you end up doing.

Also, as it adds 1 to the character's Wounds characteristic, even if you subsequently lose a wound you are permanently too big to hide.

Do we even know the CSM missions yet?

I'm glad they added the demonic weapons back. However I wish they kept burning brand or brought back the Kai gun.
I've got a metal terminator Lord with the Kai gun model but nothing neat to do with it.

I also noticed, These relics are revamped 4th/5th edition demon weapons or legion upgrades.

Bolter, Chainsword and Bolt Pistol. Can CSM have all of them?

Also bummed about the missing lord options.

Stoked about the price drops and the 4 shot Obliterators.

Happy with the book now that I can see ways I'll enjoy running my Word Bearers. The fact it will be Renegades and Daemons led by Erebus (Huron) isn't ideal but will make for fun games.

I think GW are starting to believe they're a toy company and not a miniatures company. Removing all these mounted characters from their codexes is a dick move. These are often the first forays of players into converting, and converting and re-purposing parts from different kits is one of the appeals of the hobby for a great many players (including me). I love GW miniatures, but I don't love them all. Some I love, some I like and some I love/like only parts of. But what I really love is to take all those bits I love and smash them together. I don't wanna look at mini's I'm not satisfied with. I don't need GW to tall me exactly what my model should look like and to give me permission to do specific conversions ion their magazine before I'm allowed to do so.

Where are all the models for the artifacts in the chaos codex? How do we know an Axe of Blind Fury is such a weapon and not it's not just a guy running around with a power axe from a terminator kit? GW doesn't produce them. but they have rules. They don't produce an Exalted Champion either, unless magically appears pretty soon. Do we even have a model for a Lord with jump pack? I don't pay that much attention anymore to chaos HQ's, don't like the vast majority of them.

GW are probably showing their hand here. They probably have a model for the Exalted Champion rdy to go, to be released before xmas. But it shows they have no plans to release characters on mounts or bikes any time soon (if ever).

I'm actually disappointed with the wargear section of the codex (well it's not wargear anymore, it's simply artifacts). We get one artifact per legion, which is pretty weak (we had what, 6 per legion in Traitor Legions?), 1 per cult and then 3 generic weapons? I'd like to see this expanded on in the future, like a Hellforged Armoury article in WD or on their website. I'd like to see multiple artifacts for each legion, that aren't 90% weapons. I'd like to see things like Daemonic Possession brought back for vehicles (such a shame we lost that in 8th, at least conceptually), and I'd like to see all mounts, bijkes and jump packs added for all characters. Why can't we have Dark Apostles with jump packs? There's no good reason to restrict characters like this. Just throw some bits in a box and sell them as upgrade kits FFS. GW sells upgrade kits for SM chapters, just sell them for chaos. Slaanesh upgrade kit with noise weapons, some nice new chainswords and a Steed of Slaanesh. Khorne upgrade kit with chainaxes, some plasma pistols and a juggernaught. Chaos biker upgrade kit with a modular bike with several optional accessories and 3 sets of legs you can build onto. We all know this is a smart idea, they do it already for one faction. Why not another?

When even their in-house staff are converting the latest Primaris Marines for a painting compeetition it shows you exactly how much import this has to the hobby and to the tradition of GW gaming. We're not just buying whatever GW puts in the box and serving it up on the table. Their own staff aren't even doing that. We want OPTIONS and we want to mess around with converting our own mini's to represent what GW doesn't want to give us.

"There are a few options that are missing in the codex that appear in the index: why is that? Does that mean I can’t use these models in my army anymore?

While the indexes are designed to cover a long history of miniatures, the codexes are designed to give you rules for the current Warhammer 40,000 range. There are a few options in the indexes for some Characters and vehicles that are no longer represented in the Citadel range – certain Dreadnought weapons that don’t come in the box, or some characters on bikes, for example.

Don’t worry though, you can still use all of these in your games if you have these older models. In these instances, use the datasheet from the index, and the most recent points published for that model and its weapons (currently, also in the index).

They still gain all the army wide-bonuses for things like Chapter Tactics and can use Space Marines Stratagems and the like, so such venerable heroes still fit right in with the rest of your army." -Games Workshop on the new Codexes.

So you can all still use your mounted characters I guess?

NO!
They're gone forever. Just like how WHFBs rules evaporated into thin air all across the world when it got scrapped only less so because Chaos Lords actually got updates rules before going missing. Unlike my Bretonnians.

Nope, you get pistol and choose Bolter, CS, or special/heavy as your main weapon. Zerks can replace either with axe or sword. DV Chosen can't be WYSIWYG

so you do get to use the missing stuff (characters on bikes/mounts) you just use index points for the unit and codex points for the wargear.

Wait when it says "most recent points/rules for its weapons" that would mean it uses the codex for any wargear that still exists, correct? So codex prices for assault cannons or powerfists or whatever, even if the model itself uses the index datasheet and point cost. If so that's a bit better that what I had been assuming.

Though demonic mounts are still kinda sad as they don't benefit from chapter tactics. At least bike lords mostly work.

Does anyone know if the Iron Warriors artefact (2+ save and regain a wound each turn) is available for all Chaos HQs, or just daemon princes?

As long as your Warlord is a Chaos Space Marine, you can give it to any Iron Warriors Charachter.

In his defense you know someone is going to argue they don't get those rules because they aren't in the codex. They will get the points changes for options and nothing else is what someone WILL argue at some point. GW should have just copy/pasted and edited the points costs and keywords as needed. Would have taken at most 30 seconds if the person is a really slow typer. It isn't like the old days with the old printing presses. The whole process would probably added an extra hour of formating for the paper version. Doubt much longer than that for digital versions. Especially with all the errors and bugs in the digital codicies. I like how Guiliman became a flyer...

Hold on....

Leviathan Dreadnoughts have the "Helbrute" Keyword (and thus are Affected by Legion Traits)

Because Emperors Children Leviathan Dreadnoughts sound REALLY Nasty (ALWAYS Attacking first with S16 -4 4 damage Drills that hit on 2+)

Alpha Legion ones are Tougher, as they have a -1 to hit (12"+) Modifier, meaning heavy weapons (which are usually in the backline) are less effective against them
