So, I have some Primaris Space Marines that I'm painting up as a Iron Warrior successors, and well... long story short, I am simply not going to buy a single plastic character for 30 euros, no way no hw, because IMHO that price is nuts and because I don't want to allow GW to believe that's a good price point. So I've been thinking about doing conversions for the characters. This is the first one I've done, a primaris captain:

(Shown in multiple angles to show all the parts used). Would this mini work well enough as a captain? I would also like to do the rest of the independent characters, but I'm not sure where to start with those.

I think that would work fine. Especially once it's painted up with some marking on the helmet to make it stand out as very unique.

For an apothecary it's mostly about getting the narthecium. You could use some tech marine bits converted to have needles or whatever hanging over his shoulders. You could probably get all those bits from a regular SM Techmarine/apothecary.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Thanks! I'll need to go find the pieces for that, then

I think it definitely works as a primaris captain (or praetor too since it gives off a 30k vibe IMO). This has nothing to do with your work but I don't think I'm personally a fan of the oversized plasma pistol in general though. I like the bigger bolters on primaris but the pistol seems too overscaled as a bit.

Beautiful work, it's got some cool details and a good pose without being busy.

Where did you get the power sword? I don't recognize it.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

No way to mistake this as anything but an HQ choice

i think maybe a bigger iron halo might of been in order but otherwise no biggy but...

Looks good so far - hard to mistake it for anything but HQ as others have said.

The captain looks great to me. What's the parts breakdown?

Cawl made Primaris from all 20 (yes, even the other two!)original Legion Geneseeds, even post-Heresy. So, for example, there are some running around with Death Guard geneseed. Guilliman is just not approving of them being active, but there's nothing stopping Cawl from sneaking them out there.

I like the conversion, very cool and super cost-effective using Lieutenant models.

Try Deathwing terminator Apothecary parts. Their larger scale may work better for Primaris.

Thanks . I must admit that I'm not sure how much bigger is that plasma gun compared with a regular one, but it's certainly quite bigger than the one from the Mk IV sprue!

Thanks . The sword is from the vanguard veterans sprue (I snapped the arm and the sword from the arm, though).

I specifically didn't want to put too much or too big bling on him, as I prefer the minis to be a bit more restrained.

What AegisGrimm said (also, I'm painting loyalist IWs, so I wanted to link them... and to be able to use the stuff I paint for both).

Hm, let's see... the body is a regular intercessor from the multipart box. Left arm is from the hellblasters box. Right arm is from the intercessors box, but with the hand swapped with one from the Vanguard veterans box. Helmet crest and shoulder pads are from the Sternguard veterans box. Everything attached to the hip is from the intercessors box, and IIRC the "iron halo" comes from the regular tactical SM box.

I was going to, but then I found an old plastic apothecary, so I thought "what the heck, I'll try":

Looks good. Both the models are easily identifiable as what they are.
