I heard rumours in my local club that Orks might not be getting a codex this year (even tbough gw said everyone will get one before Christmas). Anyone else hear this rumour or is it just crap people are making up?

On that note (to not waste this thread) what would you lioe to see in the ork codex when it finally pops it head up?
I personally would love to see orks have a rule when they can't have any modifications to their hit rolls. So they are always hitting on a 5+.

I believe GW said they would release only 10 by Christmas not everyone.

I believe the wording was "about 10 this year", but yeah, not every army gets one this year.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

So far we have:
Space Marine
Chaos Space Marine
Grey Knights
Death Guard
Mechanics

That's 5 out of the 10 getting released, we still have Imperial Guard, SoB, Custodes, Imperial Knights, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Thousand Sons, World Eaters, Emperor's Children, Daemons, Necrons, Tau, Orks, Tyranids, etc.

So there will be quite a few people dissapointed.

You would think one of the main armies that represent 40K, since the start of the whole franchise, would be high up on their list -_-

Yeah...SM got theirs first.

As it stands, I expect Astra Militarum, Aeldari and possibly Tau to round out the ten depending on how they divvy it up.

EDIT: Not including all SM Legions (BA, SW, DA)

The chapter approved article on warhammer community that talks about objective secured lists Necrons, Orks and Drukhari as armies without books yet. Chapter approved comes out before Christmas. Could be just random armies listed as ones that don't have books yet but I'd bet all three aren't seen until next year (end of next year was the timeline GW gave for everyone to have a book).

Don't forget that Admech is getting IK as well. I'm unsure if they'll do some sort of Questor Imperalis later for the households.

World Eaters, EC didn't have a codex before (not going to count the Legion Book), SoB/Custodes having a codex is.. odd, I'm still curious if they'll add them to some Imperial Agents book down the line.

My thoughts are that they will probably update most space marine books first because a lot of that is copy paste rules (all the similar units) and these armies use the SM points list for a lot of their core units.. And it allows them to basically phase out the index (except for very niche units). I get the impression Daemons will be a later release (why else put lesser daemons in the CSM book). Orks will likely be later in the cycle as was pointed out the chapter approved article.

So my prediction is that in addition to the 5 we know we will get SW, DA, BA, and Deathwatch this year closing out Imperium 1 index. Then maybe Thousand Sons or AM.

Great... a whole year of playing against updated armies who have rules that mean it's physically impossible for me to hit them... -_- Thanks Gw....

The ork index, thus far, is generally not the train wreck crashing into a dumpster fire that 7th was.

In all honestly, I'd be perfectly happy if the chapter approved fixed some of our more overpriced weapon options (e.g: basically all of them). I generally think orks are pretty decent, on the whole, and most of my complaints with 8th rise from the base ruleset.

But since you asked........

Ramshackle coming base on all ork vehicles. Compared to, say, quantum shielding and serpent shields, I think it would hardly be OP, and it's certainly fluffy.

Battlewagons getting a 3+ save, or at least a 'ard case conferring it. I get it's open-topped (sometimes), but why does a frigging rhino have the same toughness and a better save than a battlewagon?

4+ save for flash gitz. (come on GW. You have to get it right again eventually. Right?)

Ghaz having a cybork body. You know. The one that turned him into the prophet of gork and mork. The one he's had since forever?

More attacks for warboss. If voldus, a grey knight librarian (read: space nerd) has 5, why does a warboss only have 4?

Could be worse; could be old GW where a new edition doesn't guarantee you a new codex at all, while others wait 3-4 years for one only to have a new edition come out months later.

WE and EC are confirmed for getting codices eventually.

Custodes have never had a codex before but SoBs have.

Freebooters. That is all I want to see in the Orks Codex. Either as a clan with special rules or a unit or two. I collect a freebooter themed army, and it would make me joyous indeed to have real rules to make Flash Gitz and friends more viable!

Unlike my wish list (reasonable as I think they are), yours actually has a high probability of occurring. They're providing little bonuses for all marine chapters and chaos legions, so it's not unreasonable to anticipate eldar craftworlds, IG regiments, nid hive fleets, and ork warbands.

I'd rather wait longer and have a properly balanced and flavourful codex than have a fleshed out version of the current index.

re. Ghaz's Cybork body. I kind of take it that his Prophet of Gork and Mork 4++ is accounting for that, since it stems from the same Mad Dok rebuild. He's far, far beastier in 8th anyway. Particularly with Dok on hand to tighten his screws every now and then.

but as practically the head Ork of 40k, he's pretty weak compared to other HQ units.

Along with a 4+ save can the damn snazzguns be assault weapons? I would like to know the logic behind giving a 31 ppm a 6+ save, a medium ranged weapon and no viable transport to shoot out of.

On topic: The first part of this edition (Fate of Konor) is ALL about Imperium vs chaos. Xenos are taking a back seat. I HIGHLY doubt we see ANY xenos codex until the campaign is over. After death guard and AdMech (making 5 codices released) We will likely see Imperial guard, demons, thousand sons or EC, and a couple of the SM chapters get books before christmas. MAYBE they allow eldar in.

A lot of stuff in the Ork index is... questionable... a almost 400pts Mork for example that has nowhere near the effectiveness of other cheaper units in other factions... But I can't complain, at least it wasn't 7th ed.... Oh god please never go back to that...

yeah keep in mind getting a new codex this year likely means your proably not getting a model release attached to it

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

They've been doing adversarial releases, so after admech I think we might get our first Xenos, which will be Tau since they have a campaign coming up against admech. After tau we'll go back to imperium So probably IG. After IG we are probably looking at Chaos Daemons. Probably a marine chapter will close out the year, Could be anyone, but I'm hoping for Dark Angels or Deathwatch, but sadly expecting blood angels.

Well, in my opinion, 4++ is the fact that he's protected by gork and mork - not that he's got metal bitz and gubbinz. If anything, I would take the constant 4++ is a replacement for the one-per-turn 2++, which I had privately wished for many times.

At any rate, it just seems odd that his most defining characteristic - the cybork body and brain that let him communicate directly with gork and mork - has no in-game reflection, even though other units DO have cybork bodies which have an in-game effect. Crappy ones, admittedly.

But I 100% agree with you that ghaz is far improved. He's beastly, and a hell of a buffer.

Ghaz needs to be made into a monstrous creature. I'd love to see a new model of him where he's bigger and badder then Roboute. In a few instances of the fluff I've heard his size range from 12 - 18 ft tall and I'd like to see a model that reflects that.

I would like to see Warbikers get a huge points reduction, probably back down to 18ppm, I have yet to see anyone figure out how GW justified giving them a 50% increase in price, I have 35bikers chilling on my shelf atm.

I would also like to see a huge rewrite of Ork weaponry, either huge price drops or significant increase in shot output. A KillKannon hits on average once a turn and costs 27pts. It literally is weaker then a lascannon, has half the range half the -AP and Does 2 damage instead of D6 and for some reason COSTS MORE, someone figure that out.

I would also like to see more aura buffs that are useful. a 6+ FNP is kind of crap honestly, I use it but only because i keep a painboy near ghaz/weirdboyz to reattach limbs as needed, and even then its barely worth taking. I would also like Ghaz's buffs to be more online with how powerful Girlymans is. +1 attack on the charge is not even remotely close to rerolling everything.

I don't know why I said SoB, I meant SoS.

And yes I know EC/WE are getting some eventually, but it was more counting them in when we know they won't be for a long while due to them spacing out the Primarch release stuff.

As I've always said since the leaks... Ork points are way too high! Gw has not at all taken into account Orks hit on a 5/6. So many ways I would fix orks but honestly a huge point decrease in everything would probably be easier and fix my problems.

Is there a source where the confirmation was made about WE and EC Codexes?

WarhammerTV or Facebook or somewhere, not entirely sure. I believe it was mentioned that the only reason EC and WE got rules in the codex was because their individual codices were over a year from being released whilst DG and TS are getting released sooner.

Thanks. That's still good news. Hopefully there'll be further confirmation in the future.

Meanwhile, I'll patiently wait for the WE Codex, Daemon Angron and new WE models (assuming we're getting all of that).

I'm curious to see what DG and TS Codexes will contain.

With all the Primarchs coming out i`m pretty sure we will see Angron.

TS will be rules only i think, maybe getting back some options that the CSM Codex cut down.
Otherwise more Psi and hopefully at least a strategem to use a power twice.
DG got allready a lot of new models with options they do not have now so the Codex will cover that up.

Probably the Codexes will fix some stuff from the test indexes and not really bring a lot of new stuff.

@Ork Codex: Clan rules, some points fixed and maybe a hand full of new models, that is all we need.
Oh and all the stuff they left out in the index of course.
