My idle thought of the day has been to try and come up with a semi-decent (though likely not competitive) list full of YOUR ROBOT OVERLORDS!!!
My only real stipulations are that the list should contain Kastellan Robots in any configuration (because they're the epitome of retro-robotness), and a Leviathan Dreadnought (because damn that thing is killy).
Fulgurite Electro-Priests x5 -
- 5x Electroleech Stave
Fulgurite Electro-Priests x5 -
- 5x Electroleech Stave
Kastelan Robots x3 -
- 2x Twin Heavy Phospher Blaster, 1x Kastellan Fists, 3x Heavy Phospher Blaster
Cybernetica Datasmith -
- Gamma Pistol, Power Fist
Onager Dune Crawler -
- Icarus Array, Cognis Heavy Stubber
Onager Dune Crawler -
- Icarus Array, Cognis Heavy Stubber
Totals up to 1830 points, so a little room to give the fulgurites some company as bubblewrap, or to add in some another bot! (A little one, at least). But I honestly didn't know which direction to go in at this point.
I did like that the choice of two HQ's (librarian or chaplain) both had some nice pro's and con's. More survivable vs psychic powers, essentially.
What are your thoughts?
edit: Thought I should add, that simply making a necron army is cheating lol. You know i mean robots as in the big killy kind :p

Admittedly not pure robots, but they're as robotic as dreadnoughts. It works pretty well. The missile Commanders hang back with the drones plinking at softened targets and supporting the rest of the force through markerlights, while the fusion Commanders and Crisis Suits start in reserves. It lets them drop down to help surround the Y'Vahra with drones for protection after it's launched across the table. The Ghost makes a good flanking unit, just wandering about and doing it's own thing more often than not. With everything else on the table it's often ignored completely, which lets it grab an objective easily.

Spoiler:
VANGUARD DETACHMENT (1420 Points)
HQ:
Chaplain Ven Dreadnought (2x DCCW, 2x StormB)
Techmarine on Bike (Servo Harness, Power Axe)
ELITES:
Contemptor Dread (DCCW, StormB, Kheres)
Venerable Dread (DCCW, HF, Assault Cannon)
2x Venerable Dread (2x Dual Autocannon)
2x Ironclad Dread (DCCW, Hammer, 2x HF, IAL)
D. TRANS.
Lucius Drop Pod (Counts As)
----------------------
I usually fill it out to closer to 1500 with 5 Scouts w/ Heavy Bolter.
That looks like a nice list, I hadn't considered the merits of using a Lucius drop pod myself, as it's 120 points now which is almost the price of a dread by itself! Which dread/loadout would you put in it as your distraction carnifex? I'd be curious to hear how you plan to field the army, as I imagine having such a low drop count is tricky for being ganged up on on the table.

Hah, nice, I hadn't considered T'au for my robot army, but that's mostly because one of the players in my (rather small) gaming circle already collects a pretty sizeable T'au army, and I wouldn't want to end up with our group being 50% Tau matchups!
I mean, we do also have like 1 IG army and 2 space marine armies, but at least AdMech is a -bit- different, and neither of them run walkers.
Nice lists though! Should be a lot of fun to play I'm sure!

I use the Dread list in non-maelstrom games, as they are too slow to scoot around grabbing objectives.
The Riflemen stand back and shoot, the other Venerable and Contemptor hold the midfield or my home objective, depending.
The Ironclads advance and focus on killing high wound models/vehicles.
I use the Lucius pod to keep the Chaplain Dread (my Warlord) off the table for the first turn or two, then I deploy him either near my objective or close enough to the Ironclads to help them fight. Against a very shooty army the pod could deliver an Ironclad behind enemy lines.
The Techmarine rides around healing as necessary.
It's a fun list to play, and it's fairly versatile as long as you're not chasing multiple objectives.

Haha, feel free to show me a chaos dinobot list!
The only reason I chose the units I did, is because I like the retro stylings of the kastelans, and also there are some cool forgeworld models in the horus range that can be used as conversions for things like the leviathan that fit my 'theme'.
I honestly didn't think that the chaos war machines would end up getting much love, I'm still remembering the days when chaos rules were pretty weak. I'm tempted to take another look through the codex, but it would definitly mean a lot of conversions (as I'm not a huge fan of the heldrake model, or a couple of the other mechanical gribblies)
Edit:
However... I realise now that I recall someone talking online about the leviathan having a chaos version as well... So if I can find a chaos unit that is similar to the kastelan robots (as in two fist/claws plus a shooty weapon) I could do a Dark Mechanicus conversion army. Which would be fun!

Necrons say, "sup?"
I would be interested to see a Demon Engine army though.
If I was doing a list based around Imperium Robots, I'd probably just use Admech (I've never liked the design of Dreadnoughts). So, a Tech Priest, some Ruststalkers (because I love the models), maybe some troops or something, and then the rest of my points on Kastellan Robots.

You're not. If you're worried about your opponent using 'fake' rules, you're having fun the wrong way. This hobby isn't about rules. It's about buying Citadel miniatures.
Please report to your nearest GW store for attitude readjustment. Take your wallet.

Yeh, thats one of my current options, just running a heavy kastellan list.
My Chaos option though has some interesting thoughts. Such as -
Helbrute
Maulerfiend/Forgefiend
Blood Slaughterer
Decimator
Brass Scorpion (cool model in itself!)
decimator variants are awsome this edition.. dirt cheap, tons of weapon variants and look aesome. Run 7-9 of them in various weapons loadouts and screen them with Brimstones

What loadout would you give them? I came up with a few variants:
They're all a bit more expensive than Helbrutes, and the heavy weapon versions won't get to make much use of the extra 2" of movement they get over a helbrute. The close combat versions might be worth the extra 30 points for the 2" movement, but the helbrute with scourge will get 2 more attacks than a decimator (both with 2x close combat weapons).
