A new codex with models every other month. I miss the days of 4th/ 5th when there was a codex and army box set that came out along with several new units every 2-3 months. They used to alternate with fantasy and LOTR. This whole 10 codexes by the end of the year idea just is slowed. The only codexes I plan on actually buying are the orks (my main army) and Chaos (my step sons main army). I own about 10 different armies but none of them will see a new codex from me I will just use the indexes as I don't or wouldn't play any other army competitively. Even if orks are not as competative in 8th once the codex settles.
Which would mean some armies would be stuck using the index for 3-4 years. While models come out at the same rate. We are getting new models for a different faction every other month. A trend that is likely to continue. so you want codices delayed simply to delay them till more models come? Why?
Why not update the codices, then just keep adding new models with free boxed datasheets? It simply seems a superior option, prevents the weird issue we've seen for years where different armies had rules clearly written with entirely different mentalities and isn't actually slowing down model releases at all.

Are any significant changes to units expected in the new codex books?
Were there any in the first releases, or are units left very much as they were in the Index books?

There is a world of difference between the indexes and codexes. Lower points, free relics, strategems, and lots lots more in the codexes..

Generally units which were widely acknowledged as bad got buffed. Such as obliterators literally doubling their firepower for the same cost and mutilators getting cut to about 2/3rds their original index price. Brimstone horrors went up a point in price while cultists went down a point.
So generally I'd expect anything in your army that's just absurdly good to get nerfed (but still left good, not ruined) and anything particularly bad to get buffed.
For eldar and tyranids I'd expect primarily price decreases. For guard, I'd cross my fingers the prices were mostly unchanged.

I didn't know if the codex books just added the fluffy stratagems etc, or if there is likely to be significant change in units stats moving from Index to Codex. So Silver Alien has answered my question pretty well, cheers guys

Has it ever been mentioned yet if Ynnari are going to be part of the Craftworld Codex or should they get their own Codex? I would imagine they would have their own as I wanna keep my hype in check. They are my favourite faction of the Eldar especially after seeing people's conversions to make the models have a more 'death' styled look.

Supposedly they will be getting their own Codex. I think one of the Warhammer Live streams talked about it in that regard.

Honestly, I would rather see them share a Dex with Harlequins. They are just a mishmash of existing material. They have only three exclusive units, all of which are unique characters.

Well, that's assuming they aren't going to be one of the supported codices that's gets models, which could be anything. Even if they don't really need it with so many options to pick from.

Maybe if they spread out new models for the different Aspect Warriors over two codexes, I could see that happening. But really, I doubt that is going to happen.

We don't know anything about how they're going to work.
Quite honestly, I think that Ynnari are going to be the "8th Edition Wood Elves" for the 40k universe.
In 8th edition, Wood Elves got a bit of a shift in terms of their aesthetic. You can see it in the Eternal Guard, Wildwood Rangers, Sisters of the Thorn, and Wild Riders.
They had a blend of Dark Elf savagery and High Elf nobility in their wargear. We already saw that with the Visarch, where his wargear is a blend of Craftworld, Dark Eldar, and pre-Fall aesthetics.

I'm not holding my breath for any new plastic kits for the Guard.
I agree completely.
When Fall of Cadia was announced I thought "that's the end of my beloved Cadians", but GW have made it very clear that there are still substantial regiments of Cadian Shock Troops still around on various worlds etc who were not actually involved in the fight. Its also made quite clear that Cadian patterns are exported to various other regiments to use, therefore the models themselves need not necessarily be 'Cadian' even if they are using Cadian equipment.
As much as I'd welcome any new regiment, I just can't see it. Almost the entire range is multi-part Cadian. That would be a massive, substantial job to change up the entire line to make way for a new regiment. Even though the Guard can be mixed and matched its not something you see GW do much. Its always a full Cadian army, or a full Catachan force etc. I can't see them wanting a 'half and half' scenario where old Cadian boxes intermingle with a new regiment of infantry or something.
What may be more likely is filling gaps in the line - such as Rough Riders. I don't even think the old Hunnic ones are available are they? Some Cadian dirt bikers or something would be nice. And that is far more easy to do than redo the entire line. They still hold up very well for me despite being pretty old now. I don't look at my Guardsmen and think "damn, they need new models". They look out of place alongside Elysians and Kriegsmen but that's more of a scale issue given those models are not very Heroic whereas the Cadians very much are.
I think Cadians are going to be around for a while yet... but I'm more than happy to be proved wrong about that.

I highly doubt any of these 3 will get a significant amount of new models. Has anyone besides the two starer set armies? I'm sure we'd hear leaks by now.
Of course if we're wishlisting... there was an old idea for IG to get light/medium/heavy infantry basically:
Light - better move, infiltrate, worse saves, limit on heavy weapons
Medium - as normal
Heavy - worse move, more heavy weapons, better saves?
Then 3 kits, and lots of heads...
If I were the Emperor that's how I'd do it. Light 6+ save guys who can make scouts or cannon fodder. Medium 5+ save guys in flack armor and helmets as normal infantry. Heavy 4+ save guys in breast plates and greatcoats for taking punishment.
None would represent an existing regiment, but all would have bits that could make them blend with existing models if you so choose.
If only there was some artwork to illustrate this...
As for the Eldar GW has done incredible work on stuffing different models into a boxed set. I have no trouble seeing a Banshee/Scorp box, or a Reaper/Dragon/Spider box. Sure you'd have a TON of wasted bits but hey it keeps SKUs and molding costs down so the savings can be passed on to you (no actual savings will be passed on).

No idea. But didnt they say these are later, October? We dont know if they will be codex-only releases (most likely) or if one or all of these will get a few new miniatures.
Also according to GW on FB the Thousand Sons codex will be released soon.
I have heard Death Guard are only three more weeks of preorders (including the upcoming Deathshrouds), so we may get a bit more info in the next White Dwarf about the follow-up releases. This may be wrong though.
We also dont have a clue yet what will be the major releases in October, December and January...

The LGS employee said that Tyranids are coming up next in November.
October is probably going to be Necromunda heavy and probably filling out the rest of the Death Guard models which haven't been released yet. Including the multi-part kits for the Dark Imperium units.

Yeah, you have to figure that Death Guard releases will dry up in a month or so. It seems somewhat likely that one of the next 3 is going to get some models if they're stretching out to the end of November.
Probably they'll give us an updated codex schedule in the next couple weeks.

FW said Necromunda would be in November, didnt they? I thought around the next 40k Open Day which is on the last weekend in November. And several Shadespire releases will be in September (starter set) and November (expansions) afaik.

Codex before Christmas virtually guarantees no new releases or repacks at best. They're still selling Primaris and Death Guard.

There may be a bit of room for something.
Not counting tomorrow's pre-orders, there're 13 weeks left before Christmas. Probably nothing on pre-order December 16th, as it's too close to the holidays, so 12 weeks.
- 4 (?) more weeks of Death Guard
- 1 week Blood Bowl Elves & Pitch
- 3 (?) weeks Shadespire
- 1 week Necromunda boxed set
That's about 9 (or less) weeks. The rest just christmas bundle boxes? Codexes in some weeks without actual models? Or is there another 3 week or so (AoS?) release hidden?

The is also chapter approved and firestorm for AOS. That leaves just one week. It seems pretty clear we will get minimal releases if anything.

Perhaps they'll do a limited time run of OOP Guard models like they did for Bloodbowl? Most of the old metal Guard ranges (except Praetorians, Cadians and Catachans) are still available partially, but all have gaps. They could bring them back for a limited time?
That said, depending on what's on the sprues, some of the Necromunda gangs might be very useable as Guardsmen - as long as there are enough lasguns/autoguns...
