Future floor polish gives a fantastic gloss finish.
Coat everything in Future, let dry thoroughly (like two days), apply wash gently ( the gloss helps the wash pull into crevices), take a dry brush and pull wash off flat surfaces.

I've had to delay my washing step, as the "light grey" wash I got from vallejo seems to be very dark grey and is also filled with little flecks of blackish paint, which isn't ideal!

Any recommendation of what wash to use? or should I make my own? I have Thinner Medium and black wash and umber wash, so I could thin down and dilute my own wash using some ulthwe grey....

Nope, all my paints are vallejo. Never liked the GW paints, they would end up dried up long before I finished using them. The new pots might be a better design but I've never had a reason not to buy vallejo.

Edit: Well, until now, though all the other washes I have are great so I dunno if I got a dud pot or if its meant to be that way

I mean I'm right there with you, I switched to Vallejo and others years ago and couldn't be happier, that said, GW washes are still the best, they really are, unless you make your own.

Hmm well a helpful amazon help desk guy has agreed to let me return the "model" wash, and get a free replacement of the "game colour" pale grey wash instead, so I'll give that a try. IN what way are the GW ones different?

I've spent soooo much on paints and bits and bobs this month so I really should stop lmao

Don't want to start a new thread for this unless I have to, but I thought you helpful guys might be able to help anyway -

I'm considering changing my current white/light grey colour, to more of a bone colour. So I thought the easiest way is to just do a kind of brown wash / glaze over it... but as we have established , washing onto white causes odd staining issues.

Any thoughts / tips?

I have already tried using the vallejo "Bone White", but that seems to be a little more pinky coloured... might just be the way I thinned it, not sure....

edit:

The one on the right is my new bone test, using vallejo bonewhite and an umber wash. Not sure what to do with it now, but I have to say the colour grew on me a bit more after seeing it with the proper edge colouring etc.
