So, Death Guard has been an absolutely massive release, dwarfing other releases in recent memory. Let's tally it up like Scribbus.
Dark Imperium - containing Noxious Blightbringer, Bloat Drone, Poxwalkers, Plague Marines, Malignant Plaguecaster, and Lord of Contagion
First Strike - containing more Poxwalkers and Plague Marines
The Plague Brethren - More unique Plague Marine models
Mortarion
Typhus
Tallyman
Biologis Putrifier
Foul Blightspawn
Plague Surgeon
Plagueburst Crawler
Foetid Bloat Drones
Myphitic Blight Hauler
Deathshrowd Terminators
Blightlord Terminators
Plague Marine box
Plague Marine Champion
Plague Marine Icon of Despair
Get those 17 kits and you will have no duplicates. In a way, the Death Guard have been coming out since the very start of 8th edition when Dark Imperium was released back at the beginning of June. At this point, that's 4 solid months of releases, with a few gaps here and there.
It's been a long slog, and I'm feeling exhausted. If anyone is familiar with Overwatch, it's much like the release of Sombra. She was teased and teased and teased, and then she finally was hyped up and instead of embracing the new release, fans were just like "Get on with it already!"
It's more than just being tired of waiting for something to be released, it's being tired of hearing about it, of seeing it in the news, of that being the only thing for a while to look forward to.
But, whew. By the middle of October, we should be clear of the Death Guard at last, just in time for Shadespire to release.
Then... the only other things we know for sure are Necromunda in November, and the Eldar and Tyranid Codexes crammed in there before year's end.
Into 2018, we are completely blind as to what might be coming, with only a few vague rumors pointing at the 'year of xenos'. People are hyped about the potential of more Primarchs coming but it's not like GW has confirmed this for us. For all we know, Guilliman, Magnus, and Mortarion may be the only Primarchs we see for years!
But what's going to be the next big release? The next big thing to rival the massive update that Death Guard got? Or is this it, and the rest is going to be an updated model here and there through 2018? What do you guys think?
To me, there are a few factions that stand out as needing a big collection-spanning update more than others. Craftworld Eldar have a ton of models that are starting to show their age. Similarly, Chaos Marines, World Eaters, and Emperor's Children are really lagging behind their Nurgle and Tzeentch brethren. Orks and Dark Eldar could use a bit of patching here and there as well. I could see any of these getting a big fat release of models to introduce new units and update old ones. Of course, there's another Imperial faction that could use a massive update as well, but I won't mention it's name.
To me, the other Space Marine factions, Tyranids, Tau, and even Necron really just need to get their Codexes out to bring them up to date. Factions like Deathwatch, AdMech, Adeptus Militarum, Grey Knights, and Genestealer Cults similarly already got their new models and just need (or needed) their Codexes.
When you tally it all up, there are only a few factions that really need a massive update like Death Guard...

From what I remember reading, there's going to be a big Tau release next year, as well as a possible new xenos faction. Eldar need a ton of plastic just to update their range, and orks need a few kits as well.
Really after the codexes that we know are coming most books need model support. I'd be surprised if we didn't see a return to the normal release schedule where books are released with a few kits over the course of a month.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

My mostly unsubstantiated guess: Christmas will feature a combined Craftworld Eldar/Thousand Sons release. I say this because we know Craftworld is coming soon and there was a Facebook post saying Thousand Sons are coming "very soon", as well as the fact that both lines need models (the former because their models are old and the latter because we don't really have enough stuff to justify our own codex yet).

I agree that the Death Guard release has been significant. Although it has given me hope, in that it shows GW aren't afraid to go all out on really fleshing out a faction.
I'd really like to see a full Death Guard sized release for Sisters. A totally new Xenos faction with T'au, Dark Eldar, Necrons, Dark Eldar, Thousand Sons, Orks getting their Codexes with a few releases here and there.

tbh fam, I really don't see Thousand Sons getting MORE new models. Their Codex is going to be filled out with the various daemon engines and other things that are already in the Chaos Marine Codex that will set them apart from Death Guard.
I think it's just going to be the Codex and that'll be a real quick way of getting Thousand Sons out of the way.

I'm not so sure. I remember during the build up towards 8th that GW remarked on several occasions that 8th would shift focus to Imperium V Chaos. So Thousand Sons, Slaanesh (Really hoping for them to come back in a big way) etc could very well get more goodies.

I really, really hope that they don't spend a lot of time and effort on sisters. I like the fluff of the army, but it's still basically yet another imperium army, and they already have a LOT of new models available. It's long past time that a Xenos army got some attention.
Eldar really need a bunch of resculpts, plastic kits need to be pushed out for all the aspects. Probably the biggest army that is in need of work right now.
Orks need buggies and trakks resculpts, along with a couple other units.
Everyone else is pretty much ok I think... if they fix Eldar and Orks, after that they would just need to do occasional updates as time goes on. That's when they should bother with sisters, and they should certainly sort out the current army issues before they release a whole new army.
Besides, you can get great sisters models from a bunch of other places that fit perfectly into a sisters army. Good luck trying to do that with eldar. (In fairness, you actually *can* do that with Orks, for the most part.)

Orks are the easiest, for anything on foot just get fantasy models and some gun bitz.
Everything else can and SHOULD be converted and kit bashed, having "neat and clear uniform kits" is as unorky as it gets.
