As the title said I just finished assembling my first ever 40k models: 5 space wolf marines and 3 termies. I feel so proud and happy, whilst some look strange I feel true accomplishment and real joy.

But I want to hear about how you guys felt when you made your first models and whether you were pleased or not?

Do not be shy I want to hear it all

Vigo. Spain.

My first models where monopose Bretonian Archers, one Ork Warrior and one Ork Archer, so I didn't actually builded them

But I painted them, very badly because I was younger, and yeah. The excitement is very encouraging. But at that age I didn't even played Warhammer, I used the figures to play just like normal toys with my playmobils and other figures

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

First model still Sat on my desk.

A very badly painted. Missing a shoulder pad, glue caped marine captain.

He still gets games when I can even though tactical marines are better painted! Still leading from thr front.

That was built and painted. The first was a two part marine
But that's not counting as built honestly.

Well done, OP! I hope you'll get them nicely painted too. Even if they don't turn out exactly how you imagined, practice makes perfect.

My first wargaming model was Commander Coleman Stryker, a Warmachine model from the Cygnar starter box. I was quite pleased with how he turned out, yhough I would have done a better job removing the mould lines now.

He was also the first one I painted, and I still play him to this day. He looks decent enough.

The first GW model I built was a Space Marine biker for a friend, and I can honestly say I was a bit too much of a perfectionist with him. He took way longer than he should've.

My first models were from a Grenadier D&D monster and character set. Painted with Testor's enamels. At the time, I loved them, but as I got older I came to resent the paint jobs. I wasn't aware the paint could be stripped from them, so they ended up in a landfill somewhere. Now as I am even older, I miss them, wish I still had them.

It never ends well

Krieg! What a hole...

My first were DKoK Grenadiers, they were perhaps a bit too advanced for a beginner, so I damaged them a bit, but otherwise it went well, I quickly bought Ig bits to customize them somewhat.

Congratulations on your first models.

I remember mine. 5 metal Chaos Terminators, 12 Khorne Berzerkers and Kharn the Betrayer. All from 3rd edition. I was getting ready to battle my friends Dark Angels. Such an awesome time.

I remember my first box well - just a space marine tactical squad.

I had no idea what Warhammer was as I had just picked up a random box of space dudes to build and paint.

The paint job was thick, high gloss enamels on poorly built and illegally equipped marines.

Learned that they were part of a game system once the pictures made their way to Facebook and I've been hooked since.

- My first Warhammer Fantasy models were a box of 20 clanrats. I used my dads old humbrol enamel paints for Airfix kits to paint them. Basecoated them in gone off olive paint that was either shiny or dull. Used a runny silver for metal, some black for the spears and a bit of red for blood/mix with the green to make a terrible brown to slosh about. They were awfully bad!

- My first 40k model was the metal terminator Chaplain which I saved £6 in pocket money to buy. I had managed to save up to also buy chaos black, ultramarines blue and boltgun metal paints. Unfortunately the one old brush I had was ruined by this point, but I couldn't afford to buy a new brush. I painted the Chaplain using 3 wooden tooth picks. Actually the model turned out really well, but then I went and traded it to a friend at school. I wish I hadn't.

My first models were already built when I got them. They were the models from 2nd edition Space Hulk, which I purchased used in the late 90s. Most were not painted, so I got to paint some at least.

There was one terminator missing from the set when I bought it, so I went to my FLGS and they had a single packaged termie for sale that was the exact one I needed (a flamer terminator). So he was the first one I actually built and painted. Then I bought a box of Blood Angel Death Company Space Marines and built those. It was a lot of fun, and I've been hooked ever since those first purchases in the late 90s.

My first mode was either Thorgrim Grudgebearer on his throne of power, an old dwarf gyro copter, or the organ cannon.
All completely metal and never stayed together and horribly painted.

My first 40k kit was probably the old 6-man tac squad box set.

All waaaay back in like '93 or something. Wish I still had them and wish I had pics.

We're gonna need another Timmy!

Everyone improves with time. You have to start somewhere

And in first mini tradition alongside a current project so the focus stopped going utterly stupid on my phone.

My first model was an easy-to-build SR-71.

My first real model was a T-34-76 mod. 1943. The T-34 has lost some of its handrails and stowage, and was airbrushed a uniform green. To be honest, it doesn't look bad, just unfinished.

My first 40k model was a Leman Russ Tank secondhand from someone who didn't want it. The thing was in positively miserable condition, and, among other things, missing its tracks. I remedied that situation with balsa wood strips, though its tracks still don't look good.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I was a WHFB guy since 4th till 7th, i started 40k in 5th when the new Tyranids line came out in 2010, never played Fantasy ever again, 40k was so much more fun.

With that said, my 1st army (everyone wants new players to start as Orcs back then) was a Mono-pose Ock army that didnt fit on the bases and you have to arrange them and number just to get them stand in rank

Nepharite of Algeroth for Warzone, the old edition.
Thick paint, no shadows or highlights. Horrible.
Questionable color scheme, at best.
Converted Nazgaroth (a kickass demonic heavy weapon with infinite range - Algeroth in Warzone is like a Khorne that considers range combat and spells completely A-OK) with badly sculpted green stuff. No bits market back then for me.

But he served me well, the poor bastard. Lots of Doomtropers, characters or not, shots to bits or shredded with the Azogar. Never had more fun with an Algeroth model, excluded perhaps the Destroyers (a unit that could put on their place heroes in a game in which heroes were very powerful. Thank you for the 2 Wolfbane heroes wiped in one turn, guys).

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?
Your army could suffer Post-Chapterhouse Stress Disorder (PCSD)! If you think that your army is suffering one or more of the aforementioned symptoms, call us at 789-666-1982 for a quick diagnosis!

My first WH40k models was a set of 8 Terminators. The good old green box of folks remember. It had a Captain, and 2 extra Heavy Weapons specialists.
My first vehicle was a RT boxy Land Raider. Man, I still miss those models.

5th ed WHFB starter set. 12 Bretonnian Knights of the Realm and 24 Longbowmen. I didn't know about priming or basecoating. Zero clue about colour theory made my army look like an eye-jarring circus, multiple thin coats? Aint nobody got time for that. I glued the shields on before painting anything. The basing amounted to painting a single layer of goblin green and calling it a day.

My first haul were a tactical squad, 5man sniper scouts and a commander box. Slapped that paint on too thick on those tacs, no highlights fir fancypant, the scouts still turned out decent and i was sooo proud of the camo pattern the captain i built with a lightningclaw and stormbolter, which was horrible back in 4th...
Switched from Ultramarines to Black Templars, sold the scouts to a buddy and the tactical marines wait to get stripped once the wip bench gets clear. The captain however will remain as is, for that bit of nostalgia

My first where the original rogue trader plastic marines. Was a happy 12 year old boy with the way they turned out. (My father did help with them a bit) . 30 years later as I look over my freshly assembled plague marines I get that same feeling. (But my dad doesn't help any more. )

Grats to OP
My first models were given to me many moons ago. They were the old old RT era plastic space marines painted as Crimson Fists. I had no idea what they were or that they were part of a game but they evoked something in my imagination that has never left me. I remember building a paper mache fort for them.
The first that I remember painting were some old metal terminators. I used humbrol enamel paints to paint them as I was building model airplanes at the time and still did not know that GW had shops
