I'm making a shadow wolves small 1k points force and I'm playing off the idea that after cadia the force was rewarded with some primaris marines. So half my force is primaris marines and half is orginal. However, for my none primaris troops I'm interested in getting a few 30k models (terminators and dreadnought mainly) to reinforce the idea that the Shadow Wolves have been roaming the galaxy after their home world was overwhelmed and just scrapping and gathering every bit of tecknolgy they could to keep themselves going. Is this kind of stuff okay in 40k?

Given that FW's own Commander Cullin is in a Leviathan Siege Dreadnought and that there are Contemptors roaming about in contemporary times alongside Bjorn (who is suppose to be the oldest dreadnought), I think what you're going for is totally fine.

Relic/ancient armour is/was traditional in earlier codex before it actually made an in game difference. As such, equip anyone with anything so long as there are contemporary rules for it and you're good to go from a fluff point.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Actually, he is the oldest living Space Marine (for a given definition of living at least) but that doesn't mean his dreadnaught body is the oldest. The Salamanders Bray'arth Ashmantle uses the same Dreadnought body as Cassion Dracus from the Great Crusade.

Technically Bjorn is the oldest living loyalist space marine entombed in a Dreadnought, as the oldest space marine is either Ahriman or Kharn (both terran-born marines) while there had been numerous stories about how heresy-era marines somehow survived into the modern day (either via warp shenanigans or TRAZYYYYYN) and it's unknown if they're older than Bjorn or younger. And obviously there are Chaos Dreadnoughts/helbrutes older than him.

However I was just using him to point out the flaws in actual canon that are a lot worse than a band of modern marines scavenging ancient armor, since due to the introduction of the Contemptor GW and FW had to write a ton of weird loops to not stomp on Bjorn's title, since by all means if he was a new character made today, he would definitely be in at least a Contemptor Dreadnought.

Just use warp timey magic.

Its pretty well known that warp travel is ridiculous.

have a set of wolves travel around or probably slightly after the HH

and get lost in the warp for a good 10k years

they pop out and get brought back to the fold.

otherwise easy mode just have them find a cashe of old equipment on some hulk.

Shadow wolves are an imperial fist successor and 40k based not hh. They're home world was taken my tyranids and only a few survived and basically just help out where they can but don't really have the resources or "funding".

MKIV and onward are still used and produced, albeit in limited quantities. MKII and III are MUCH rarer. I is like "nope not in battlefield" level of rarity.

But with small scale of 40k battles majority of say MK IV armour is feasible

Also, depending your Chapter - no reason they don't have a hook up with a Forgeworld which keeps producing this older armour - even if just specifically for them. It means no difference in rules, so go for it.

Easier to justify if you're Chaos of course.

A Space Hulk with Mark 4 Maximus Armor that was destined for the Imperial Fists during the Horus Heresy was caught in a warp storm and sent forward in time 10k years and the Shadow Wolves just so happen to stumble upon it. Seeing the IF markings, they deemed it their right to "salvage" as they are the Sons of Dorn.

*10 milleniums ago on Terra*

Dorn: "Where the hell is that shipment of replacement power armor? Goddamnit Cawl I told you this isn't funny anymore!"

Basically.... and the chapter likes to use MKVI Corvus armour in the lore so I just thought it would also be nice if the terminators and dreadnoughts had that classic feel to them. Have a stark contrast between the old battle worn scrapped together marines who haven't had new equipment in like 30 years after their planet is gone and the new primaris marines who don't have the same level of experience but were rewarded to them after helping in the 13th black crusade.

Travelling in the Warp has, on many occasions, caused the same issues as "realistic" space travellers would have on travelling long distances at high speed. So there's no reason why you couldn't have a band of 30k units that were lost in the warp for 10k years, and are now returning in the present day.

If this can happen in "real life" (assuming travel at near-light speed etc etc) then having it happen in the crazy world of 40k is hardly a stretch.

Plus some of the models look cool, and the rule of cool beats the laws of thermodynamics any day.

Or why go with warp theories since they are still used in limited numbers and 40k battles are so tiny limited is no issue. If it was primarch wouldn't be out so much

The imperium is awash with equipment old and new. Plenty of ways for a later founding chapter to get some older pattern equipment.
