Disney already confirmed Deadpool will remain a separate R18+ franchise.

If nothing else, the first money made feth tons of money. Disney likes money. They will let it go until it ceases to make so much money.

As long as it doesn't get stale, I would pony up the dough for Deadpool 12...Inches of Lovin'.

This is the Deadpool sequel we deserve. And probably the one we want. Damn me, but they're keeping it great!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Crucially, poop tons of money for an exceptionally modest outlay. Which Disney would like even more.

Yeah, Disney isn't going to mess with Deadpool at this point. And as much as I love him because of who he is he won't make a jump over to their primary timeline like ever so they'll leave him alone and let Ryan Renolds and friends rake in cash for them while having the time of their lives.

According to Wiki (I know), the first movie cost $58M (does that include marketing costs? I don't think it does) and made $783M.

Yeah, they'll let it ride for a bit!

It’s also a cathartic way to skewer the genre. All the time Deadpool has things to take the piss out of, writers have something to bounce off to help avoid tropes.

At least, in theory!

Also, while it's not likely Deadpool will make the jump to the MCU, this will allow them to skewer the MCU with direct references if they wanted to and not be limited to poking fun specifically at the X Men movies or making vague references.

The number Wikipedia cites is usually the development budget and doesn't include marketing (the few times I've seen marking included the wiki-page notes it as such).

We'll find out soon enough eh.

To be fair though, did Deadpool get a "Hollywood-size" marketing push? I'm sure they spent more than a few pennies, but all the stuff I saw was pseudo-viral marketing and a couple of posters.

Let's be silly and assume they spent $116m on Marketing (they didn't but we're being silly). Still a metric ton of profit.

Generally Marketing is the budget over again.

But Ryan Reynolds had a producer role and a cut of the profits and he was pretty much the only person involved in the vast majority of the marketing. So while there was a lot of marketing in all those little videos they produced I would be really shocked if the marketing was actually more than the $58M and wouldn't be surprised if it was less. They wouldn't have had to pay RR to make all those little videos. They wouldn't have had to do any make up. The eyes were not CGIed to move on the mask in any of them. It's mostly just RR sitting in a single room for a single shot talking at people. Those vidoes could be done VERY cheaply inside of actual rooms instead of constructed sets.

But even if it was the 58M. So the movie cost 116M and made 783. Justice league cost almost 200 and barely made 300.

I don't think they spent much on Marketing. A lot of it just seemed to be Ryan Reynolds in the costume making jokes. They had a pretty tight budget for the movie. Tighter than that costume, for sure.

I am not so sure. Deadpool would be the most likely to hop in to the MCU. RR is pretty much the only person I can picture as Deadpool now so I doubt they would recast or reboot him. With the contracts for some of the major players ending soon, they may need to come up with a new comedy relief. Deadpool would fit right in.

I mostly just want a good Uncanny X-Force movie. I mean, we have Deadpool here, who is no stranger to jumping from universe to universe. Now we are getting Cable, his best buddy time traveling partner, also original X-Force member. These two could easily slip in to the MCU for a new arc, maybe Messiah Complex? X-23 has been on screen now, I am sure people liked her enough to want more. I can live with Disney retconning Logans death to bring him back with Hugh Jackman. Just give it to me!

The Deadpool film was such a labor of love on Reynold's part (he'd been trying to get that project green lit since Origins Wolverine) that I don't know I'd ever be willing to accept anyone else as the character. Even if they were good you just can't mimic the passion RR has when he plays Wade because its real and unlike Vin Diesel (who also manages to carry that kind of passion into his roles) Reynolds seems to have a real eye for what he's doing and how he's doing it.

Which are words I may well be eating. Who knows. Plenty of movies have looked great in trailer and then been bad, but its hard for me to be cynical about this movie. Confidence is just high here.

Not quite!

JL cost $300M (plus a LOT in marketing) and made $656M.

I doubt Deadpool's marketing costs were more than the original budget, so yes, by any measure it was an unqualified success.

I suspect Deadpool 2 will do just as well, if not better.

I hope Deadpool 2 has a better villain than the first. I don't know anything about the comics other than they're a part of the X men, but the first film mostly got by on charisma and 'rule of cool' and I really thought the main bad guy was by far the weakest part of the film (the same actor was also horrific in Game of Thrones so maybe it's just him?).

Or is Cable the bad guy? I only know him from the 90s X men cartoon so I'm not sure what his relationship to Deadpool is.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/02/10/colossus-actor-talks-deadpool-2-and-confirms-shatterstar/

We got a second trailer for Deadpool 2 aka The Untitled Deadpool Sequel and there were a couple of moments that made fans sat up and took notice. While in the US trailer we couldn’t see him in the trailer Stefan Kapičić as Colossus does appear in a very brief scene. We see the two of them hugging and Deadpool copping a feel of Colosses’ butt because of course. Kapičić did an interview with Inverse and talked about the trailer and Colossus’ place in the story.

“I was surprised they put that in the trailer,” Kapičić says, laughing. “That’s the relationship between Deadpool and Colossus. Colossus is trying to make him a better person, to stop being childish. Stop doing crazy things. This scene we see in the trailer, that’s the picture of their relationship.”

Which is very true. Colossus made for an excellent “straight man” to Deadpool’s style of comedy. It made for some of the funniest moments in the movie and fans will be happy to hear that that dynamic hasn’t changed much.

“Deadpool is hard to change. Colossus is an old school superhero. He’s trying to make [Deadpool] a better man, an X-Man. But the thing is, Deadpool is doing his own thing.” Kapičić says this makes Colossus “nervous” in the sequel.

Fans were surprised by one scene in particular where Deadpool was surrounded by a bunch of people. They recognized Domino, played by Zazie Beetz, but there were other faces including what looked like Terry Crews as an unknown character and someone behind him that some thought looked like Shatterstar. In a move that Kapičić probably wasn’t supposed to reveal he says that we are seeing Terry Crews and the person behind him is indeed Shatterstar.

“That’s not CGI of Terry Crews, that is Terry Crews,” Kapičić says. “You can see it clearly.” Kapičić then follows up with a surprise: “You can see behind him, Shatterstar, a really cool thing for people to geek out.”

Did we get a look at the roster for that X-Force movie Fox is making? Crews could be playing the character G.W. Bridge who made his first appearence in X-Force (Vol. 1) #1 in 1991 and he’s a creation of Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld. Shatterstar is also a Nicieza and Liefeld creation and has been on the X-Force team in the past. As for who is behind Domino we can’t tell

At the moment the reason we haven’t seen a lot of Colossus is that they’re still working on his special effects.

“Two days ago I was working for like, seven, eight hours a day with Ryan. We are still in the process of making it [as] perfect we can,” he says.

According to Kapičić, Colossus, who played a pretty minor role in the first film, will play a much larger role in the second film.

“Colossus is one of the most important characters, besides Deadpool and Cable, and you will see why,” Kapičić teases. “ Colossus is important for this story. People who love Colossus are going to be crazy. All these new characters, so many surprises in this trailer. This is just the beginning.”

We’ve probably just scratched the service of what The Untitled Deadpool Sequel has to offer. The movie comes out in May so we can expect the marketing to kick into overdrive any day now and we’ll no doubt see more footage before the release date.

Summary?: After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

I am more leaning towards him being a "misunderstood and mysterious terrorist" who, once his motives are found out, is actually the good guy.

As far as his relationship to Deadpool goes:

Spoiler:
It has been awhile since I read them, so I may miss a few things. But basically Cable has a teleporting technology, as does Deadpool. Somehow they got messed up and Deadpool got liquified and his DNA was mixed in with Cables. Cable of course has the techno-organic virus from the future. So with Deadpool's DNA imprinted on the virus now, every time Cable uses his teleporter, it pulls Deadpool along with it. No matter where he is. Deadpool grows attached to Cable, even does some timey wimey lifey savey stuff to save an infant Cable. Something about Mr. Sinister. Then also some run ins with each other when Deadpool was running around in the future with Uncanny X-Force.

What are you talking about? Do you mean the trailer with about ten seconds of Cable monologue at the start?

A friend of mine hated the first film as 'trying too hard'. I've never heard it described as boring however.

Entirely serious. It was bad dick jokes, gore effects and the constant drone of a really boring monologue. Though 'trying too hard' is pretty on point as well.
It clearly was written as a spoof of a character drama, but came off as the actor just reading lines in a bad suit, and a couple cardboard cut-out extras.
